- Another legend on the bench. An Orange OR 80. The video includes a full service, recap and closer look at the guts. And as usual a sound demonstration. If you want further informations about the history of this company take a look at the official orange website.
Great British guitar amp tone, I remember the Orange shop in London back in the 1960s it was always worth a visit. That wonderful reverb tone reminds me of Peter Greens sound.
Sweet vintage ORANGE...
All set to go another few decades..
Nice work Martin.
Jimi would be proud of your "Wind Cries Mary" outro!
😂👍
My brother has exactly the same amp with cover, never been touched since the day it was made and still works and sounds great. Sure it will be needing a recap but he has moved to a small island off the south west of Ireland. He still uses it occasionally for his local pub gig( only one pub on the island ) Only thing he says it getting a bit heavy to carry!
Definitely one of the finest amps I´ve ever played. And a good quality product, too. And loooud!
You made that Orange sweet and juicy again. 🟠🙂
Love that tone, very nice job.
Beautiful component layout and sound! Why can't Fender and Marshall do the same??
Because they have to keep the bean-counters happy.
You're not comparing like with like - take a Marshall with the same year of manufacture as this Orange then make a comparison movies. the only way.
Btw Martin those Thorn tubes - EMI took over the company in the seventies but not the "lighting part" -probably thought they were light bulbs... Pete
It does have a good component specification and is well put together but I had one of the Dave Reeves era Hiwatt fifty watt amps . With its huge Partridge transformers , steel chassis and military specification wiring it was a master class in what a hand wired amplifier should be.
Beautiful
Amazing sounds at the end. Sounds like Danny Kirwan or Peter Green.
Great video!! I have exactly the same amp and it is a beauty!👏
No doubt! It is a beauty! And a beast. It’s incredible loud.
how many of those would still be around?
Honestly I don't think a whole lot, just based on my limited knowledge. Unless there's a big gap in my knowledge the period of time that specific amp was made, Orange were just a relatively small point to point manufacturer in the UK so they couldn't really pump em out like they can now. Plus with so many old orange amps modded or (surprisingly) commonly converted into extension cabs upon breaking, specimens like the one in this video have got to be extremely desirable and hard to find if not extremely expensive.
