Thanks for doing the Bass segment! You're the first one I've seen doing this, and I've been thinking about getting this pedal to use on both instruments
Song list throughout this video: 2:25, 3:09, 3:50 - The Judas Kiss - (Metallica, Death Magnetic) 7:20 - Engines of Death - (Feared, Svart) 8:04 - The Sun & The Moon - (Ola Englund, [single]/Starzinger) 10:12 - La Grange - (ZZ Top, Tres Hombres) 10:54 - Dimebag 1986 Randy Rhoads spinoff riff 11:31 - Randy Rhoads Suicide Solution Live Solo lick 12:30 - Chasing Light - (Metallica, 72 Seasons) 13:29 - Crown of Barbed Wire - (Metallica, 72 Seasons) 14:24 - You Must Burn! [Better Version] - (Metallica, 72 Seasons) 16:28 - Straws Pulled At Random [First Ever Attempt] - (Meshuggah, Nothing) 16:52 - [Anesthesia] --Pulling Teeth - (Cliff Burton, Kill 'Em All)
Thanks for the review, I also have it. I like it but except for the noise gate. I need another separate noise gate like thr boss ns2. Its just like cutting some gain.
Amazing what having your own guitar company, sucessful YT persona, and now pedal maker can do for your playing. Bloody VIking this guy, what is he like 7ft 2?
First off I wanna say this is a very well done video, you really seem to know what your stuff. I recently got a chug and have been using it in the fx return of my boss katana mk2 and I can't seem to get nearly as dirty of a tone as you and others ive seen use this pedal. I don't want to bug you but if theres any tips or ways we could go back and forth for a bit I'd really appreciate it. much love brother
firstly, thank you very much for the kind words! If you'd like, I can make a video just about that predicament if you'd like! My student has the MK1 that I gave him, so I can run it through that real quick after a lesson this upcoming week
wow that's so nice@@daniel_naaden 😭 thank you so much🙏 as far as i know I haven't seen anyone else with this problem so im banking on the pedal isn't broken🤣
At about 14:30 with the depth maxed and presence mid maxed, you got that serious John Petrucci tone. That’s it… I’m sold. Ordering one next $$$ day. What guitar/pickups are you using? I have a Jackson JS32 DKA with stock pickups which aren’t bad, but I’m looking to upgrade to a set of Dimarzios or SD’s. I have a Marshall JCM800 4210 and a Boss Katana 100 MkII head with a Katana 212 cab. I hope one of those will give me that fat, tight tone if I put it through a Chug.
@@daniel_naaden for some reason my comment box is missing, so hijacking... how is the ir? been. wondering about that since pedal release and trying to figure out if it's the same as the one ir he released.
@daniel_naaden I'd very much like to know exactly what your Chug settings were at 14:30. Those pointers are hard to see. I have since purchased a Chug and am still trying to figure it out. Is it plugged into the effects loop return of the amp or into a clean channel?
@bretttrommler756 fx loop, and I honestly don't remember the settings. I think the bass was maxed, mids were at about 4/10, and treble was almost maxed. high frequency gain and low frequency gain were pretty equal and high, and gain was maxed
probably. or you get a second amp of the same type like the pros and rig up an A/B switch between them. typically if you use a pedal like this, clean tones are not what your subject matter is. that being said, I'm working on a method of making that more efficient. I'll upload a video on that soon.
Ace video! Thank you. Interesting. So cuz you were playing bass through the pedal, can I use my 7- or 8-string with this pedal too then? Or shall I get a Boss Metal Zone and EQ the hell out of that one? Tough choice 🤔 same same, right
@kevinmyles6369 absolutely you can! I actually asked Ola that at one point and he tested the 8 string through the Chug on a SWOLA! it sounded terrific - the one thing that would be recommended would be to lower the Lo-Freq Gain accordingly (depending on 7 string, 8 string, and tuning) because if you leave it on the same settings as a 6 string, it's possible that it comes out WAY too beefy and choked out. adjust Bass & Depth accordingly, too! I'm glad you liked the video! :)
@daniel_naaden great to hear! Obv gotta watch the low freq and gain levels much more when playing thick gauge 8-string. Totally can't afford Neural DSP Quad Cortex atm lol so will need solid plan B to still get that high quality tone, mate. 😉👍🏻
Your tone has way too much sub lows throughout the entire video. You need imo to either : change mic mode (low cut possible ?) if available or tweak mic position (further back will cut lows) or tweak amp/pedal eq or tweak cab position in the room or put some EQ in post to cut these sub lows

This video is CRAZY. You're getting really really good at this kinda thing!😁👍👍👍

Ola that is.
Lot's of value, I hope, Ola sees that 🤟

I'm using a Dean MAB2 Aviator. so the pickups would be the signature MAB Hands Without Shadows in the neck, and the Baker Act pickup in the bridge

true. micing issue, mayhaps. cuz I really like how it sounds in the room
@@daniel_naaden gotcha
@djabthrash yeah the SM81 has a low cut and then a super low cut option. should engage that next time!
Dont use the Chug pedal barefoot... Other than that, its a very badass pedal... 🤘
