About OFF GRID with DOUG and Stacy
In 2010 we decided to sell everything and build a log cabin on 11 acres. We have lived in the log cabin for a decade now with no solar power or wind power plus zero public utilities. We live like the pioneers except in the 21st century. We post videos on social media to encourage people to return to the land and make a living with your family. We teach folks:

*Food harvesting *fermenting the harvest *food preservation
*Holistic Remedies like Grandma made *How to make money and live this life

But, it’s not in my heart to be argumentative with you, so I won’t mention it anymore. There are other viewers who feel the same. No hard feelings, I’m a giver not a taker.

So I planted some elderberry bushes, 2 to be exact, 2 years ago. Last fall I harvested about a dozen half pint jars of elderberry syrup. So so delicious and very healthy. This February my husband cut them back pretty severely. I was nervous they would die. OH MY GOSH!!!!! They are now almost 8 feet tall!!! I will need a ladder to harvest the berries in the fall. The smell from the blooming flowers is intoxicating. I just love them Thanks for the nudge in this endeavor! Have all your books and have made many recipes including my own ACV, sauerkraut, tomato sauce, toothpaste, just to name a few. Love your candles too! We had extremely hot summer nights when we came down from the open range in the mountains to return to school (it was so much nicer in the mountains).... mum n dad would put the parachute quilt mom had made from parachutes daddy had found buried in the forest. We would all sleep on the front lawn with a lot of our lighter quilts to cover us up in the early morning hours ... all six of us would sleep together outside where we could breathe & be more comfortable ... we were safe cuz daddy was our champion, our protector ... I miss daddy 🥹 he's the best 😇 those were the best nights sleeping under the stars 🥰

Living off grid does not mean you have to live miserable. You can still have electric and ac, I'd get a system that will run your entire house, electric, especially lights, refrigeration, heat and ac. They do have electric access ran on the highway where they live. There's absolutely nothing wrong with having ac/lights/refrigeration and heat. Like I said, living off grid does not mean you cannot have electric. That's utter nonsense.

I had horrible hay fever as a child, and we did not have air conditioning. It was such a blessing to be able to go places where there was air conditioning and to be able to breathe more freely for a few minutes or however long I was there, and to get some relief for my eyes. I remember waking up one time as a child, and I had so much drainage from eyes that had dried and crusted over while I was asleep that I couldn't open my eyes when I woke up. They were glued shut, and I panicked. Summers were all about heat rash and misery for me except for the respite that came from getting to go swimming or spend some time in air conditioned spaces. I had chicken pox during the summer too. Absolute agony! I was begging my parents to tske me to the doctor. I was even willing to face the long needle in the butt that usually accompanied a doctor's visit, but there was nothing to be done but to ride it out. When one of our neighbors moved in, she thought my parents beat me because my eyes were so swollen and red from allergies. Summers were not fun for me. Air conditioning made life better.

I love using 91% - 99% rubbing alcohol. It's especially great for cleaning the freezer and the fridge. The freezer, if something sticky is in there, spray it on and come back in 20 - 30 minutes and wipe clean. It doesn't freeze. 👍

    • @homesteadgal4143
      @homesteadgal4143 8 днів тому +7

We use the 91% rubbing alcohol for homemade wipes. You can use paper towels cut in half or reusable cotton fabrics (best is recycled t-shirt squares). I put the wipes in plastic containers and keep in cars (alcohol won't freeze in winter). I also keep a ziploc bag of these wipes in my purse. Any time we go to a store, we use wipes when we get in our car.

      Amish is false doctrine.
Eph. 2:8-9 (saved by GRACE only. By Grace, through faith, in Christ alone.)
You can join ANY religion but you can’t join Christianity. “Salvation is of the Lord.” It’s a miracle only God can make happen.
All religions are works righteousness except Christianity. Justification is a free gift given only to those that allow their conscience feel Godly sorrow over transgression of the Ten Commandments, turn from the sin (repent) already on your record, and turn in trust to Christ as Lord over you. As serious you are with God about your contriteness is how serious He’ll be w/ you. In a moment in time, He will indwell you with the Holy Spirit and you will now know Jesus. This is the necessary born-again status to be justified in Christ. After that, Jesus will reveal himself as your Lord and the miracle of that new birth is a new heart w/ new desires. Merely head knowledge will result in you hearing those horrendous words, “Depart from me; I never knew you.”

In the early 2000's we had a major storm that knocked out our electricity for 4.5 days in the 100 plus days. Luckly, I had a gas hotwater heater for warming the water for showers. Basically, I stayed outside on the deck in the shade with my garden hose. I tinkered around the yard and made it through just fine. I did sleep in the house at night which wasn't bad because i kept the house shut during the day. I was prepared to put my tent up if needed. It was quite an experience since I was single and my kids were all grown and out of the house. Having been a family of campers, the knowlwdge really helped.

Grew up with zero air conditioning. Survived 2016 heat record here in Ohio at 104F heat index without air. Lying in bed you can feel your body cooling itself as you sweat...it was a little rough but made it through okay and it lasted about 5 day's heatwave.

I have a bank of 5 big windows facing west to the beautiful out back of my acreage. The sun? Oh boy. I attached a 16ft pole up under the eaves and hang a black thick mesh net material all across it. I can still see out but it diffuses the sun/heat.

Just recently picked up a battery powered misting fan and it's great while sitting on the porch and if my power goes out when it's hot in central Texas I plan on a tent and the fan.But we also live on the main power grid of the hydro power plant that's about a mile from my house.

We never had a/c in school, stores, church, or cars until I was into my 20s at least.
