    So, how many degrees is 1/8" pitch?, 1/2" per foot pitch?

    Can I make an addition to my main sewer line for an rv?
    If so, where is the best place to cut and add it. Closer to the house or the septic tank?

      I don't know anything about RV drain connections. If you call your local building inspector they could answer that. I assume you want to dump your black and gray water tanks. I don't see why not, but I have zero knowledge about materials and code on this.

    A 1/2” block taped to bottom downhill end of a 4 foot long level will give you 1/8” per foot drop too. Or a 1” block and a 2 foot long level, same result.

    • @JamesGlassJamesGlass
      @JamesGlassJamesGlass  4 роки тому +3

      Yes, blocks work too if you don't have a plumbing level. For sure. And it's not too much work to tape and untape blocks. Clean out is correct, must be an illusion. Every horizontal gets a clean out of the same size, yes.

      Herschel, that would be a 1/4" block on the 2 foot long level to get 1/8" drop per foot.

      rumba7 ....yep! I doubled it when I should’ve cut it in half. Sorry!!

    If your tilting the pipe connected to a toilet flange then the toilet flange is tilted.., not level with the floor right? 2.08 degrees..,

    3 bedroom, 2 bath is now a Tiny house? It's called a "House" where I live. Thanks for the plumbing tips.

      Haha. You're not wrong about that. 1000 sq ft is plenty but everything is 3000 to 5000 sq ft now. It's nuts.

    I would like to know where you found it says cannot have more than 1/2” per foot?

      From the codebook, specifically IRC :
      "-Section - P3110.3 Slope and size of horizontal branch.The maximum slope of the vent section of the horizontal branch drain shall be one unit vertical in 12 units horizontal (8-percent slope). The entire length of the vent section of the horizontal branch drain shall be sized for the total drainage discharge to the branch in accordance with Table P3005.4.1.
      The maximum slope of a horizontal combination waster and vent pipe is 1/2" per foot.
      - P3111.2.1 Slope.The horizontal combination waste and vent pipe shall have a maximum slope of 1/2 unit vertical in 12 units horizontal (4-percent slope). The minimum slope shall be in accordance with Section P3005.3."
      The problem is if the pitch it too great all the water runs off and leaves the solids behind, which then clogs the pipe over time. Too little pitch and it won't drain, but too much pitch and the watch runs off and doesn't carry the particulates. Basically, the turds gotta surf their way out! On pitches greater than 1/2" the water just runs off too fast. Also note pitch affects venting, but that's another issue. Basically though, you need more venting the great the pitch.
      But, if you can't get the right pitch, there are alternatives. You can do a vertical drop or a short 45 drop. So, you can pitch it 3/8", for example, then drop it down however many feet you need to another 3/8 pitch pipe. Just remember you have to use long sweeps.

    I guess I'm dumber than I thought...I don't get it. When the buble touchs which side of the lines? Which lines? and which way is the water flowing? I thought high side of the bubble shows the flow in the opposite side.

    • @jdig1984

      The most straight forward way is say your looking straight on with pipe like this video shows and you want the fall of the pipe to go from right to left. Place a standard 4 foot level on pipe and see were the bubble position is if say the bubble is over to the right then lift the left end of level till bubble is centered look and check by eye or tape what that distance is from the bottom of level to top of pipe say it's 2" inches and it's too much.rise left end of pipe till you have the required fall. If I'm putting in 4inch sewer pipe I give it the bear minimum on the bubble just a tad off the level position to the left line just a fraction off level . This allow of solids to pass in a gentle fall. What you don't want is a back fall going in wrong direction keep moving along the pipe placing on the pipe and wherever the bubble is lift the level on one end to bring the level bubble to centre in this scenario if you lifting the right side of level to centre bubble you have a back fall and will block your pipe . Another trick I use is when you have your run of pipe in put a golf ball in one end and it's very satisfying watching it come out the other end it should roll nice and gentle on a long run

    What on earth is that pipe salad you have 10 feet down the run coming from the floor...Man that's ugly, lol. I would be willing to bet if a code enforcer saw that you would receive an insta-fail.

    • @JamesGlassJamesGlass
      @JamesGlassJamesGlass  Рік тому +5

      I'm willing to bet you have limited experience, and that's ok. It passed inspection, of course, but more importantly it's an elegant solution using the least amount of dwv to navigate the pier support and existing fixtures. It's hardly a mess-- on the contrary there's one straight 3 inch run pitched at 1/4 inch for 70 feet with four 3 inch branches coming into it.
      It's important to call you out for your lack of understanding on good workmanship so others coming here know your criticism is invalid.
