you have to think that most of them shape the beat to be put on UA-cam, the listener has to be impressed by the beat presence and most of the time by the 808s/bass, so they go hard on the bass (low frequencies in general) so that the beat has more punch. Usually, I find that there's a lot of information even in the low-mid field as well, on the sides. That, as well, gives you that sensation of punchiness and loudness so you're gonna buy it more probably. The kick is often squashed, so when you go to master he will eat all the headroom for a proper loudness. When you have to mix on these beats, I usually put 2 channel strips eqs, one that works on the mid and one that works on the side, and so I clean up everything and let the beat breath for the artist voice as well. Of course, ad you say, gain stage it before everything.

For anyone new here, instead of automating the levels just get a vocal rider plugin, it has the same effect and does it automatically. It does not replace a compressor like the automation, but it helps it
