I'm the same age as Luke, and it really is crazy to think back to how much we were bombarded with "if you think tv/movies/music/video games has any affect on people's behavior you must be a religious nut". On places like r*ddit you still see this sentiment never mind that 9/10 of what people were warning of in the late 90s early 2000s has become more "normal" or socially accepted. It really is some bizarre double-think phenomenon where you must ignore all of your own observations of the developments in your surroundings and just repeat the "official stance" or be shunned.

Im not a christian but I actually agree entirely. Even most of the truy depraved hedonists of rome before Christianization would have been appalled at the way people treat relationships today.
You have absolutely no idea what the Romans were up to before and after Christianity. That being said Christianity didn't make Rome more moral, it was a major part of what started to tear the empire apart
@@brokenlegs8431 Not per se, christianity wasn't what really caused the breakup, the empire was already on its way out the time christianity arrived. Hell, I'd go so far to say that Rome was already bleeding to death either after Aurelian died or the Tetrarchy broke apart. As for christianity, it was already here to stay and Constantine's conversion wasn't the problem, it was Theodosius' degenerate zealotry that pretty much fucked the west.
The way people admire you and consider you a role model, and the fact that you take it seriously and strive to give an example... I'm telling you man, you're a hero.
This video hits really hard, I made quite a few poor choices in my teen years that messed with my mental state quite severely and took years to overcome and I've felt like I could use that to help children who don't have a positive mentor figure in their life to help them not go down the same road as me or one worse than mine. I was already debating volunteering with organizations in my local community once the lockdown and social distancing guidelines are over, but this video made me pull up a search of local organizations where I can do something to positively influence younger people and set them on a good path. Thanks for the inspiration.
Kinda offtopic, but the background made me extremely jealous of your place, i hope i also manage to move to a place like this. I couldn't stand constantly hearing car engines and/or lawnmowers for the rest of my life. Ultra-Fast internet is not as important as the modern world has us believing, even occasionally loading updates for a few hours is no big deal if you can schedule it to your liking.
I've literally had the exact same thoughts. I feel horrible for the things I've done and how I might have influenced my friends and brother. Great video, dude. Stay safe out there. 🙏🏽
I just got baptized this weekend into the Orthodox Church and it was the happiest day of my life. the online community we're in that sees all this horrible stuff in the world everyday was unironically kind of helpful to me somehow. I found God after like 8 or 9 years atheism after getting that demonic influence HAS to be involved with stuff like jeffrey ep stein etc.. Once you realize that you're on the fasttrack to turning your life around imo.
One of the most important videos I've watched. Especially now with me meeting new people I realised how important it is to hold on my high moral standards. I didn't get this video initially because I didn't believe in things such as taking drugs in middle school, but know as I've met such people casually talking about it as if it's the norm, this video really clicked with me. Congrats Luke, you taught a Zoomer a very good lesson!
You are the reason I switched to vim + latex from overleaf and I almost missed my submission deadline, but now I look cool at least, thank you Uncle Luke!
I remember when I was going through my far-right escapades where I was explaining why I do not respect bantu people, my nephew overheard it and started spewing alt-right lines in school and got him in trouble. I never talked to him about it either, kek.
Luke is right. There is absolutely no reason to do the degenerate things that the media wants you to do. We are responsible for setting a good example to those younger than us. I can speak from personal experience that drug use only worsens your problems. I can understand someone using a cannabis based salve to treat rheumatoid arthritis but getting high doesn't help. Its only by the grace of God that I've got a family and a decent career. My life could've gone sideways and I'm extremely blessed that it didn't. I just want younger guys (and girls) to understand that its important to live your life by principles. As a Christian, I get mine from the bible. I would absolutely love if everyone were to give their lives to Jesus Christ but I know that won't happen. Just don't fall for the lies of this world.
Agreed. There's no age restriction in media in general, but especially online. Anybody who makes the choice to be a public personality has their own part in shaping what is acceptable in the minds of the younger people in their audience, whether they like it or not. Put something on adult sites, or make it so you need to log in - a fourth grader with an iPhone will still be able to find absolutely anything if they choose. Everybody needs to know that any time you do something publicly, kids will see and you will be a model. In an era where media is often so pornified or amoral, it's all the more important to model good behavior.
Nope; I know Hyde well. He was 100% serious about this - indeed it is a problem. Edit: Using my up votes for good: let's all the non-lefties on the same distro and hold the lines >> Void ;)

God bless Luke, thank you for the righteous message!
Honestly, I agree with what you're saying. I'm fifteen, I know kids who started vaping at ages from around thirteen to fifteen, I have to go to school with them but I honestly feel like I have almost no respect for most of the people I learn with. I don't think I have a say about relationships, because I don't really understand them fully, but I do feel like there's a lot of truth behind what you're saying. It just feels tough finding people who relate to me in that opinion, all I can say is "I don't care, do whatever you want. It's your body.", but I feel like I genuinely don't enjoy the fact that it happens. You make good videos, if you're reading this. I've been lurking here for a while, good content about tech and general life related stuff.
This is so true. Love the Chad Bible thumbnail btw. I made a few stupid decisions at college because I convinced myself that I shouldn't be so "uptight". After making those I regret them and I realize that it's time to make better decisions and be more outspoken about the fact that there are right decisions and wrong decisions. Morals aren't relative and to imply so is to be intentionally closing your eyes. When Luke says "You know what's degenerate" it's really easy to play dumb, but deep down we do know what is and isn't degenerate because morals aren't relative. There is absolute truth out there. Thank you Luke!
I think I mostly agree on what you said and you did well making a vid like that. I think we need public figures that promote creativity, research and knowledge. But, since I've seen this subtly promoted on other vids of yours as well, I feel like I need to say a few things. Being religious or going to the church isn't necessary for developing morals and ethics. A person that thinks critically can in most cases determine what is moral and what isn't. Being restricted by a set of rules that somehow represent the absolute goodness is not a way of life I would like to go by and I don't believe it's pedagogical or constructive for humanity. After all, morality is neither property nor a creation of Christianity. I think that being a good person has nothing to do with religion (if that were the case, Christianity and the others have failed miserably) but rather the environment in which someone grew up and his/her personality and his/her willingness to accept new ideas and change. Religion enforces its ideas through fear and this is something I'm really against. I 'm not saying I'm against everything it represents, I'm just saying that you don't need a guide to be good. You can be good by just by being good :)
The entire issue is that people are being sold this delusion of: "Be rational and 'think for yourself' and live life and learn on your own terms," and then they end up wasting their lives and at most learned what we should've just told them in the first place. In most cases, people are to arrogant to admit that their libidos were the wrong guide. This is the exact recipe of breaking everyone that has gotten us here.
@@LukeSmithxyz I don't think I can agree on that. People who constantly make bad decisions clearly lack critical thinking, i.e. they lack the ability to think of the consequences of their actions and how these will influence their life and the lives of the others around them. This happens either because they acted somewhat impulsively or they did a bad estimation (or none at all) on the outcome. Religion or not i think people who act like that will eventually make some bad decisions. Being a degenerate is not only a result of a person being "bad" but a consequence of many things. Yeah well some people are douches by nature but these people aren't the norm. For me it is not a "religion vs no religion" thing but rather "knowledge and constant self development/improvement vs ignorance and laziness". The last two lead to various non desirable outcomes. The willingness to change for the better is a major factor for developing as a human. Also, one last thing I have to say is that we're generalizing a lot and these things aren't absolute.
@@LukeSmithxyz that sounds more like lack of good parenting than lack of religion. I don't see why one would need to believe supernatural nonsense to know what's right and what's not.
Maybe I'm just the most boring person on the planet, but I never once even considered doing any form of drug. It just seams like its so incredibly obvious its gonna fuck you up for life and nothing else. At least with something like gambling theres a chance of success, so I get why people do that, but drugs are like jumping out the window without any idea of the consequences.
This is a great video. We need to be the best role models we can be to help raise the next generation right. Accepting personal responsibility is the most important thing in growing up and becoming your own person. If we start a dialogue on these topics, we can help others to lead better, more fulfilling lives.

Well, that was a surprising video. Being as old as you, living in Canada and being on the far left side of politics, I'm just blown away how much I can agree and disagree with your views of the world. I remember that in one of your old videos you said something like "don't engage with SJWs, you're losing your time" (correct me if I'm wrong). I can understand that. Some views are irreconcilable and activism make many people closed to discussion with the other side (and I'm talking about my fellow leftists). But I would really to a have a real discussion with you (or people sharing your views); I'm confident bridges can be built.

Seriously Luke. You have done an impact on my life. No coom anymore, no proprietary software and no more degeneracy (if you suspect something is wrong then it probably is). Sometimes I indulge myself with a beer but that's all.
Appreciate the video, Luke. I teach middle school and I need to be better at getting these types of messages to my students. Would love if you could do more videos on teaching, both the tech and your ideas for reaching the zoomers. @moxy He can try, but kids don't internalize anything even if you're their father when you don't explain anything. They will only remember you talking something about weed.
moxy This is not really what is being discussed by Kiškis here (they were talking about explaining why something is bad to the person to whom you are trying to a good example), but about what you are saying, no, he can’t. Having a PhD alone isn’t enough of a justification for anything. Look up argumentum ad verecundiam.

@@Tb0n3 I can't do this questions justice with a good enough answer, But my understanding is the concept of morality comes from God and he explained his reasons for them in the Bible I feel that morals don't carry any weight when they aren't stemming from the Judeo Christian God. The human impression of what is morally right and wrong shifts. Hitler thought he was in the right and he had reasons to justified his actions. which demonstrates we can't trust our own judgment. which is why you'd want to base your morals on something other then yourself. But I think I agree. Morals shouldn't be acted out mealy because you're told to just do it. which a lot of churches tend to do. I bet you'd like Ten Minute Bible Hour. he tackles a bunch of this style of question. here's a good introduction video ua-cam.com/video/jQTwOBNulEc/v-deo.html you'll be able to get an insight into a Christianity flavor based in reason.
@@slatebrick6016 Well then, here's the big one. Is slavery moral because it was sanctioned by the Bible? And as far as murder being explained, I've seen it as "Thou Shalt Not Kill". Not very well explained. Aside from all the warmongering taking place between the tribes at the time.
@@slatebrick6016 To kind of clarify I look at it like teaching children. When you tell a child not to stick things in the electrical socket, or eat things under the sink do you just tell them not to? You should explain that it will injure them, not that it's just bad and don't do it. Same goes for moral rules. Don't just tell them the rule because everyone has a bit of a rebellious side and that's how you get so much hypocrisy in the modern church. People going without even knowing why anymore and cheating on all sorts of rules because they don't have a framework to understand it.
@@Tb0n3 That's a good question. on slavery I wouldn't be able to answer that to a degree that I'd like. I would point to this ua-cam.com/video/0uBqkZ-m3XI/v-deo.html explanation because he explains it much better then I'd be able to. in short, the meaning of the word 'Slave' has changed and is now defined differently from what it was in the Bible. there were two definitions of slave used. one similar to what we have now which was condemned in Exodus 21:16, and the other which was similar to the relationship of an employee to an employer. Commandment the 6th is another extremely complex question. it should be stated that it is Murder which is forbidden (taking another humans life unjustly) not just killing anything. this is saying to not hate someone so much you wish for their death. To not hate is the main point. which is addressed in John 3:15. other then this I don't have a good answer ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. I _know_ without being told that murdering is wrong and that's good enough for me for now. Romans 2:15 speaks to this in that 'the law is written on their hearts'. or that we have a moral compass set by God and we can choose to ignore it or follow it. Another possible reason is you're stealing the life given to another person, but I don't know if that's backed up anywhere. Sorry I can't give anything more conclusive then that, It's never been a question I got hung up on. I 100% agree with you that reasons for _why_ we do what we do is extremely important and it is lacking in a lot of everywhere.
Thinking that I will probably have to find marriage material in the zoomer generation kinda scares me, to me honest. It's my only real concern, because society is doomed no matter what at this point. But I guess there are also benefits, since as the bad zoomers keep getting worse, the good ones may end up becoming easier to recognize. And there won't be a whole lot of competition since I keep getting better and everyone else keeps getting worse astoundingly quickly. So I guess it will be fine.
Why do people are always blame the young for all the world's problems? These problems has been manufactured by adults. It was the boomers, GenX and millennials who did that.
@@crusaderACR Not using UA-cam anymore, for the most part. Odysee is the biggest thing that I regularly post on. Haven't made progress on actual life goals because of all the insanity caused by the world government in the last few years, but maybe I'll be able to this year. What I said in that post isn't a concern anymore, though. I'm in a better mental state than maybe ever because I made friends and that's kinda enough for my life to have actual purpose.
You'll find one. Not everyone is the same. I am gen Z as well. I don't think my generation is bad, it's just a little different. Never judge people for their generation.
Great video. I've thought about this myself and the conclusion I came to was kids don't have any experienced mentors. They're shoved into a community segregated by age and they pretty much just form their own dominance hierarchy. They have no experienced mentors who can guide them and who they can believe when they say don't make the same mistakes as me. I truly believe schools segregated by age are the root of this problem. Maybe if schools taught and enforced high moral standards it would work but idk.
The bigger problem is that people enforce the mentality that youth is automatically innocence. They think kids don't have in ate worldly instincts of their own. They lie cover up the world to children rather than say it like it is. Believe it or not, children were less innocent before TV and Internet. The idea of childhood being a sanctuary from worldly evil is a 18th century invention. Kids back then were exposed and trained to worldly things. You had boys whom were familiar with alcohol and cigars at age ten. They saw animals mating and death. They saw brawlers every night. Putting innocence as an inherent value onto children isn't good. Children don't need innocence, they need guidance. Why is society only concerned about the young while excusing the sins of the elders?
I'm guilty as well, my first comment was going to be 'Friends don't let friends use Windows' when honestly this was a pretty heavy talk - brother suffering and friends using heroin? Not a joke. Use of jokes and sarcasm is so prevalent now, you don't get real talk as much anymore..culture, media and people joke when uncomfortable. Thank you for this video, Luke.
The part where you talk about influencing your brother with words that you didn't deeply feel were true is addressed in this book called the Four Agreements. Its like a self commitment to being sincere. : "The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom is a self-help book by bestselling author Don Miguel Ruiz with Janet Mills. The book offers a code of conduct based on ancient Toltec wisdom that advocates freedom from self-limiting beliefs that may cause suffering and limitation in a person's life."
I would advise everyone, especially kids, to learn philosophy. The majority of people on earth know too little of the world and it pains me to see people hurting each other because of their lack of understanding of the environment they live in.
Even just enough philosophy to have a grasp of semi-formal predicate logic would be a massive boon to our society. The ability to reason and introspect is one of the distinguishing traits of humankind, and so many people are wasting their potential by not being able to follow or develop a logical argument, particularly about themselves.
Umm no. We don't need that. It's just armchair intellectuals making edgy arguments while hiding away from the world. What we need is teaching industrial skills and the rear down the facade of innocence and idealism.
I think the problems you're calling out are very important. It seems to me that spending long periods of time in long-form discussion is a very effective way to develop agency over mainstream messaging and toxic, conditioned thought patterns. So instead of focusing our energy on saying the right thing less often, let's focus our energy on spending a lot of time considering the situation.
Haha dude at the risk of sounding like a Stan you remind me so much of myself. This was a great video, we are the product of a generation raised by TV and we're just starting to wake up from our brainwashed induced stupor, we must think of the babies

You should do a video on what kids should do instead of degeneracy. "Clean the room" advice doesn't really work when the whole house is on fire.

It just feels tough finding people who relate to me in that opinion, all I can say is "I don't care, do whatever you want. It's your body.", but I feel like I genuinely don't enjoy the fact that it happens.

GOKOP yeah, it makes me cringe to read that part of the comment

Philosophy is fine, but why link it to a book of commands? Morals are better with reasons than dictates.
@@Tb0n3 I can't do this questions justice with a good enough answer, But my understanding is the concept of morality comes from God and he explained his reasons for them in the Bible
I feel that morals don't carry any weight when they aren't stemming from the Judeo Christian God.

And there won't be a whole lot of competition since I keep getting better and everyone else keeps getting worse astoundingly quickly. So I guess it will be fine.

Thank you for sharing, it's kind of like wisdom being shared between people in the old days

I would advise everyone, especially kids, to learn philosophy. The majority of people on earth know too little of the world and it pains me to see people hurting each other because of their lack of understanding of the environment they live in.
Agreed. Philosophy is such an important domain that has, at least in the US, been relegated to just being "for pretentious folk."
