  • Hey everyone! Welcome to our first long-format video on the homestead channel. Today, we're giving you an in-depth tour of our unique underground greenhouse. This space is a labor of love, built with sustainable materials found right here on our property in the beautiful Colorado mountains.
As we start the tour, you'll see the beautiful flowerbed along the south wall of the greenhouse. This bed is filled with a variety of flowers that thrive in the optimal sunlight the wall receives. The careful placement ensures that the plants get just the right amount of light, creating a vibrant and healthy flowerbed.
Next, we'll show you the impressive rock wall we've constructed. Using rocks collected from our property, we've built a natural and sturdy wall that not only adds to the aesthetic appeal but also provides excellent insulation for the greenhouse. The rock wall is a testament to our commitment to utilizing local, natural resources.
Moving along, you'll see the shelves we've dug out of the wall. These shelves are perfect for storage and display, carved directly into the rock. This not only saves space but also integrates seamlessly into the structure of the greenhouse, maintaining its natural look and feel.
We’ve also repurposed downed trees to create support beams for the greenhouse. These sturdy beams provide essential structural support, showcasing our dedication to reusing materials and minimizing waste. The natural wood beams add a rustic charm to the space, blending functionality with beauty.
One of the unique features of our greenhouse is the handmade ladder, crafted from downed trees. This ladder is not only functional but also adds to the rustic and handmade aesthetic of the greenhouse. It’s a perfect example of how we incorporate natural elements into our design.
Finally, we’ll give you a comprehensive look at the entire underground greenhouse. You’ll see how all these elements come together to create a sustainable, efficient, and beautiful growing space. From the flowerbeds to the rock walls, shelves, support beams, and ladder, every part of the greenhouse is designed with sustainability and practicality in mind.
Join us on this tour to see how we’ve transformed natural materials into a thriving greenhouse that supports our homesteading lifestyle.
