if the note 7 didn't blow up then i wouldn't have to comprise by choosing one of these 2. these 2 go tit for tat. note 5 bigger brighter screen, s pen, off screen memo, louder speaker. edge better camera but smaller ratio, edge screen for quick access, larger battery, water resistant, sd card but smaller internal storage option

Here for the same exact reason. Wanted the features of the Note 7, so I got the S7 edge. But now I'm considering buying a used Note 5 until the next 'Note' is released. Waterproof, sd slot, camera are the biggest reasons holding me back. Sucks so much. Plus, I'll get to keep the Note if I buy it, whereas the edge I'll have to trade it in after paying off half of it. Assuming I don't break it.

Watching from Note 4 and I do not know what to do after note 7 tragedy. I really love S-pen, but S7 Edge has mutch more battery + water resistance and anyway it is faster...

S6 edge screen is a double edge sword... It does look nice but it is really easy to crack. I just went back to a note 5 because of that reason
The note 5 still beats s7 when it comes to the s pen and it is better in sunlight.
I only got the s7 edge over the note 5 for a few reasons. Battery life, water resistance, faster 8890 exynos processor, micro SD card slot, and I love onyx blsck color. The note 5's camera is way better in daytime for sure. I sorta miss the spen too. (Came from a Note 4.)

You got me there. the battery life, water resistance and the faster processor, SD slot. I retest a S7 and...you are right. I am now going to upgrade to the note 7 when it is released in the next few weeks.

Note users tend to stay note users because we use the features of the spen. I think most will choose to wait for the note 6 instead of buying an S7.

What really confuses me is that Samsung couldn't make the Note 5, S6 and 7 waterproof while still having a removable cover; they did with the S5

i got the s7 edge and its amazing. i think better then the note and i would have a hard time going back to a flat screen phone its that good
I have one too. Beautiful phone but I have 1 problem with it. Because the sides are so thin due to the curved screen you tend to inadvertently press things that you dont want to press.

ZrAckl Fr1 Im one of the few who dislike cases. I dont like adding thickness to my phone and cases imo are generally ugly.

Did anyone notice the lag on the S7 when she scrolls down in the play store?
Trust me, it cannot be worse than the Note 5. Navigating the Play Store on my Note 5 is atrocious more than half the time.
Other apps do not have that problem on the Note 5 btw
+Jassam Alewi It's an issue of the Play Store on every phone. Once loaded, the Store scrolls smoothely. It has something to do with the image cache. Google should fix it.

when note 6 will be release? i own note 5. the only problem is note 5 doesnt have memory card slot. n i dont like deleting pic or transfer them to pc. right now i consider buying s7 edge. however i am a note user. from note 3, note 4 and note 5, because of its spen. sooooo, it makes me really confuse, s7 edge or wait for note 6?

i say go with s7 edge , honestly when you hold both of them in hands , its kinda hard to tell a difference in size , 5'5 vs 5'7 not a huge difference , either way both phones are excellent , you can't go wrong with either of the two .

Galaxy s7 edge is The Best Phone
I got the regular S7. I don't like curved screens. Anyway, these days I tend to prefere large phones, so I was considered to buy the Note 5 due to its larger size, but I ended up getting the S7 for its newer hardware and camera. Yes, the Edge variant may have a larger screen than the S7, regular model but it is out of consideration for me, since is a curved-edged, and for me, that it's not OK. I don't need a display that distorts graphics among the edges? Wha's the logic? S7 regular should had 5.5'' too.So, by far, for me, the Note 5 is best looking, nice bezels, not that rounded, nice proportions on upper and bottom sides.
You said the Note 5 has a bigger sensor size.
The sensor size is the same. But the Note 5 has more pixels on that same sized sensor.
The S7 Edge has bigger sized, and less pixel sensors on that same sized sensor.
Like seriously I would get a note 5. S7 is too small and looks too much like the s6 edge.

8:28 Its actually higher aperture of 1/1.7 , vs 1/1.9 the 1.7 is denominator so as it get lower the actual aperture get larger , u got it wrong there :)

The S7 (edge) have system wide equaliser. When used correctly, the S7 Edge will sound louder than the Galaxy S6 (idk about Note 5), but with the same amount of detail and A LOT MORE bass.
Damn. The Note should always be as good as the next generation (Or a little bit better - or a little bit worse) [Note 4 > S6] but THIS TIME oh GOD no! The Note 5 is a FAILURE!
Don't see the point in this, both phones are aimed at different markets and the Note 5 is last years specs
S7 edge makes note 5 look like it came out years ago? Nope. If you have the S7 edge like I do, then sooner or later you will realize Flat is by nature superior to curved outward. If anything, a concave curve like the G flex is the way to go in terms of design.
+KRYSTALKEYREVIEWS, the best thing about the review (among other Android Authority Reviewers) was you gave a final thought that most importantly what I think girls are better in doing is getting on to a decision, S7 edge is obviously better to invest in than Note5 for most people.
I am not sure if you, @LORA_KRYSTAL, have done a review on S7 Vs S7 edge. Do let me if possible as am going to get one soon.

Thanks for this very interesting review/comparison. Now, Im decided to buy the S7 . i prefer the galaxy S7. not s7 edge. Coz s7 is more comfortable in one handed operation. i like the additional microsd card and the IP68. then, wait and see for the Note 6 for a 2nd phone. peace. more power and beauty to Krystal Key.
I had a toughest time deciding. switching back and forth. Almost went with S7 edge because of camera, battery life, water proof, SD card, beautiful screen, and free gear VR. Finally went with note 5 64gb because of S-Pen. I am not a S-Pen heavy user but I really love the S-Pen functionality enough to let go of all the great things that come with S7 edge.
I have a note 5 at the moment and wasn't by choice because I had a Nexus 6 I was looking forward to the 6p but unfortunately I wasn't able to get it so my next phone upgrade will be the Note 6. By the way good video review.
Thank you for this very informative video. I had two of the Note 7's (original and replacement) I had to trade back in for a new phone and went back to a Note 5 (what I had before the Note 7. I was going to go for the S7 edge...still have the option to turn back in as I haven't reached the 2 week period yet. I'm still wondering if I should get the s7 edge..the low light camera is a huge pull, but I'd miss my S pen. And, I think the S7 edge processor runs a lot smoother than the Note 5. I noticed a huge difference from my Note 7 going back to the Note 5. So disappointed to have to give back my Note 7. What should I do people??? Go back and trade to the S7 edge??? My Note 5 gets around 7 to 8 hours on screen time but that's because I tweaked it using package disabler pro and switched to Nova Launcher Prime. With the package disabler pro app I disable all bloat ware apps that I don't use and as a side note I don't use any app kindling apps or ram managers as Android 6.0.1 manages ram pretty good so far. My Note 5 also don't need to redraw apps as often as it did with Android 5.1.1 as it was pretty bad at ram management.
Overall I like the new S7 lineup they're great devices but I love that S-Pen and bigger screen but with what they're doing with the S7 lineup I'm sure the Note 6 will be very promising and I can't wait I already want one.
Lastly, I tested both cameras. It is the brightness settings...also if it is dark...use the flash. Strange how the majority of users prefer the Note 5....and reviewers prefer the S7. Wonder if they are sponsored?
i dont like this because your throwing shade at the note 5 you had either flash or a light on for the s7 edge but nothing for the note 5 thats why it looks dark
They're both awesome phones. I just purchased the Note 5 because of the S Pen. I also got the OtterBox Defender case and took out that cheap plastic screen protector. I have the Zagg Invisible Glass Shield for my screen protector. I love it!
the only real benefit of the s7 edge(USA version) is the water proof feature. The note 5 has exynos processor in the US versions which has better battery life and better functionality than snapdragon chips(USA s7 edges). I've had both phones(exynos s7 edge) for about 3 and the note 5 battery lasts a couple hours(2-3) longer than the s7 edge after the nougat update
Just bought Galaxy S7 edge Onyx Black and m blown away by it. I had Xperia Z3 so far and S7 made me feel like Z3 is mediocre. Truly a great phone. Loving it
Well done. The difference for me comes down in VR. With the S7 Edge's being liquid cooled over heating does not appear to be an issue when viewing VR content. Samsung really hit the VR sweet spot with this phone and the Gear VR. Can you post a reviewing the S7 and the Gear VR?
You got to remember that you're comparing Android 5.1 on the Note 5 and Android 6.0 on the S7, so performance will matter and especially RAM management.
Great review & video. One thing not mentioned, however, is the issue mentioned elsewhere of the Edge's "edge" leading to unwanted contact and clicks especially with one-handing. Also, what about charging, and sound quality for actual phone conversations?

great comparison, and i wish i could buy both! but, i need a new phone now and the s-pen slightly outweighs the s7e improvements... so, i bought the note5. but it's the international unlocked version, so when the note6 blows my socks off, i can throw it on ebay and upgrade!
the Edge simply doesn't look as appealing to me. I'm not so fond of the way the black looks more plastic in how it reflects. it's very strange and personally not my thing.
I also prefer the slightly more squared shape of the Note and how the screen appears bigger with such minimal bezel.
I very much hope the Note 6 is more like the more 5 in appearance with all the returning bells and whistles of the s7.
oh and a UK release would be nice.
S7 is still lacking stereo front facing speakers , I watch movies and sped time on UA-cam, Samsung have put a lot of work in to the DAC audio converters so I don't understand why they continue to hide the speakers.
Also as we are now using these android devices for more solutions so a 2nd USB C socket is now essential as charging at the same time as using the other port extends the time that the phone can be used. This is especially important for tablets.
For example nobody would buy a laptop with just one port.
Dropped the S7 Edge once on it's edge screen and it completely destroyed it, if I were you I'd stick with the note 5 it's not really that different. She's bullshitting about the camera anyways, it's pretty much the same.

My finacee has the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and I've been able to use it a little. I do not like how the screen is curved. It's cool that you can see the time on the side whenever wherever without really turning the screen on but that option is pointless to me because I have something like the FitBit that is hooked up via Bluetooth to my phone and obviously has the time on there. I don't even need to find my phone to see the time or notifications so like I said, pointless to me. The camera difference's that we were shown in this video and load time of apps and overall speed we were just shown isn't enough of a difference me to to want the Edge over the Note. I recently purchased the Note 5 and should be getting it in four or five days. The S pen is what sold me, hands down. I am always taking notes and I run a business, it's going to be very convenient to have that feature handy instead of going into the phone getting into the "notes" app and texting down what need's remembered. It excites me because I can draw in the note too and sometimes with our business "painting" I need to scribble down little things. The water resistant feature on the S7 doesn't impress me either only because if I'm taking my phone anywhere near water regardless of how "water resistant" it is, I'm risking the life of my precious phone and when you are running a company and use your phone to do so, it just isn't worth the risk. I ordered the Note 5 after watching this and I'm not regretting my decision. That S pen is really the different between this or that. If you don't make a lot of notes or would really use that feature, cool, then I'd go with the S7 Edge but I do and I cannot wait to get this phone in the mail. Super excited. :D
i know they didn't because of gear VR, but the only hardware improvement i wish for the note 6/ s7 edge plus (if there is gonna be one) is USB-C ugh. i just want to future proof my next phone already
oh and it would be so nice if samsung removed their logo on the front like they did in some of the asian versions. the phone looks even more gorgeous with a clean front

I've been thinking about this for a while. I have a note 5 and was considering trying out the larger s7. I'm not going to do it. Neither Galaxy s7 devices may be better, but not better enoug than the note 5 to convince me to upgrade. I'm definitely waiting for the note 6, especially now that i've begun using the s pen regularly

I would personally want a combination of the two. Hopefully that is what we will get later this year in the Note 6 with the same overall design, maybe with curved screens again, bigger battery, new camera et cetera. Samsung can probably make the Note 6 a lot sleeker than than it currently is because compared to the new Edge it is big and fat.
The S pen is a deal breaker for me...and I got one sim free for £280 GBP cheaper than the S7...that's a hell of a lot of money people.... =)
They put a lot of emphasis on the way the phone feels in your hand, curved edges so it fits better, ergonomic grip and whatnot, gorgeous gorilla glass on the back.... and then I remember, I've had a case on my phone since day 1 and none of that matters in the slightest.
There I should be an updated video with the note now on m the note 5 is damn amazingly responsive and fluid. I thought it was already beastly on lollipop. It's been proven over and over that exynos is superior to weakdragon. I hope they keep the exynos for the US models for the next note.
What is the point of the curved screen? Except that it looks "like it's from future" which was repeated over and over again as if that makes it better over Note 5? What is function of the curved screen or it's practical use? :)
Good review but this phone is not an upgrade from the note 5. I did like the pics but nothing groundbreaking. People underestimate howuxh you can do with the s pen that blows away what you can do with the edges.
I want the Edge! Sadly I need the s-pen. All the phones seem to come with s-note, but to find a stylus that works as well..I've not been able to find. How about you? Anyone?

For example, dpi doesn't determine the amount of content that's displayed and s7 edge screen is easily bright enough to see even under Californian sun.

Hi Krystel, nice review! though I would advice you to keep the phones always on the same side and not switching them between left and right. This will make it a lot easier for the viewers to focus on the differences between the phones, because to start with, the differences are already hard to see at a glance.
I have the Note 5 and the upgrade isn't substantial enough to buy a new phone. I also really like and use the s-pen that isn't included with the edge. I also think that Krystal is very attractive, but how old is she? Good addition to the team.
I originally wanted the Note 5 but didn't realize they didn't put an SD slot in the phone. Feels like an apple move to me. looks like the S7 will prevail.
