Fly Fishing for BIG TROUT!!!

- Northern Ireland has some of the best trout fishing to offer in the world. Over the summer months we managed to get countless days fishing... catching both big wild brown trout and dollaghan and thankfully we brought the cameras to capture one of these great days.
In this video we are sight fishing and blind fishing for big trout using different nymphing techniques depending on where the trout were lying. There was heavy rainfall in the morning but thankfully we got a great day catching both big wild brown trout and dollaghan before the river started rising.
Hope you enjoy the video. 2020 trout season on a whole has been great.

Possibly one of the best examples of what northern Ireland has to offer the fly fisherman/woman. You lad's just put that river on rhe map. Beautiful fish, excellent river and a amazing days craic. Looking forward to seeing more. go raibh maith agat.
wow , wow, wow bigger wow ,, amazing sequence of fish landed , just lovely, nice river and kudos to those caring for that stretch of river and returning such high quality fish. 👍👍👍
Class video! I caught my first 3 dollagan last week on the same river. I’m hooked!
Funny some of those big fish had red spots.
Brilliant fishing lads. I'd be eating like a lord. Hi 5 for putting them back.
Great fish caught there!! Small rivers used to be full of dolaghan down my way but less every year, think they are commercially netted in lough neagh probably won’t have the sense to stop netting untill they’re endangered
Great video. Great skill in spotting and connecting with so many good trout and it is very nice to see the fish handled sensitively and returned safely. Well done.
What ? Wow...you caught the fish I dream about catching ! Great video !
Brawo gratuluję piękne ryby i piękna rzeka
Wielkie dzięki
Great trout
Fantastic dollaghan, nice C&R well done!
great video lads ive been living out in new zealand for the past 8 years where big fish are plentiful but its great to see some of my local rivers at home with some big trout in them
Thanks lad, yeah new zealand is the place to be for big trout... well jealous. The reason we started getting footage of the odd day out fishing was because all the best trout videos on youtube are from new zealand and there isn't too many from here but there are monsters here also... next year we will make a point of bringing the cameras out more often.
@@troutfishingni6261 there is some very large fish over here but there is no where near the numbers of fish in the rivers as we have at home maybe that’s why they get to be a lot bigger over here and you have to work to catch those fish
Phil, lovely fishing there, well done. Some beautiful river pools lad. Subscribed there, would love to try that next season, might visit the North there. Only discovered fly fishing this year and got my first few salmon. Will soon be putting that up on my channel 👍
Thanks lad, Just subbed to your channel there. Yeah roll on next season. We have some quality footage from rivers in the south of huge fish but the locations are too obvious from the videos so have had to keep them to ourselves ;) lol
Just stunning, no other words can describe !
What a brilliant day you guys have had.
Just goes to show , time it right with near perfect conditions, persistence and good old hard work in searching out the outstanding beat/runs. # love it.
I wait in anticipation for your next venture
Well done lads
All the best
Appreciate the feedback Darren. Yes plenty of great days like this one was had this year.... roll on 2021 season. Thanks and Tight lines.
@@troutfishingni6261 savage video guys what rivers were you fishing they were some serious trout, would love to get a day guided on that river
Brilliant. You have mastered the art!
super film .....
One of the best videos I've watched yet. Brilliant lads. Look forward to more this season.
Thanks lad. Hopefully get a few more made this year!
Class
Class fighting. Accidentally hooked a Salmon on the klink and dink 3wt ran me down the river and broke off 🤣
Great video and some lovely trout there sir. Subbed
same
Just finished watching, that's world class fishing, are they dollaghan or river trout. Subed . The tourist board should see this. Tight lines from Cork
Thanks Martin appreciate the positive feedback. Yeah there was 3 wild river trout in the video and the rest were dollaghan. We had many days like this but hadn't the cameras with us as when we are making the videos as we don't get as much individual fishing which sucks but it is nice to have some of it recorded to look back at it. We have few awesome ideas for footage this year but at the moment we just want to enjoy the fishing before we bring out the cameras. Tight lines.
It was a poor year for dollaghan this year, local rivers were so low from lack of rain.
Terrific angling, well done, look forward to seeing more of your videos, regards Jimf
Nice brown !! I have subscribed to your channel 😀 👍
Brilliant
Fantastic guys, is it the Sixmile water? I dont recognise it though, I used to live in Dunadry, hopefully be over from the mainland in September if you guys want to do some guiding?
Great video guys I have just bought a vison nymphmaniac rod had my first go last weekend managed a few fish in a few hours....... could u tell me what size beads you use on the flies as I tie my own ..... all my fish came to a size 16 perdigon ( olive version ) I find the most challenging part of it all is trying to get the correct weight of flies
Thanks. I haven't tried out the vision nymphmaniac so would be interested in your opinion on the rod..? Yes the perdigons are a great fly for working the depths. Personally I don't believe that it really matters what nymph it is usually but depth is more important. I like to have the same nymph in a range from 2mm - 4mm tungsten beads. Hook size ranging from 12-20. Tight lines

I have the 11 ft 3 it’s a nice rod as I tried the french leader on a standard 10foot 3 rod and couldn’t get a decent line out but this gets my flies out well and the added length is also good as I fish a medium / large water ....... I usually have a 4 / 3 mm on the point but some runs I have 2 on ..... the perdigon has been my dropper and that’s what the fish seem to be taking had some on pheasant tails too with pink collar . Still to try the rod with my 3 weight fly line...... I can feel the flies bouncing along the bottom and can feel the tap of a fish sometimes before I see the indicator move but as a say I am very new to it only been out 2 times with it . Tight lines keep the videos coming 👍👍
@@swishywishart6522 thanks
How do you distinguish the dollaghan from the resident fish?
generally the dollaghan have no red spots, darker than the browns and to be honest the browns are not usually that big in our rivers, the dollaghan come up the rivers from lough neagh to spawn
Unbelievable guys, them trout are amazing. Just got into fly fishing, mainly on the river Clyde Scotland. Ireland seems another world. Just wondering what sort of rods you use to take them beasts? Weight/length/brand. Thanks 👍
Thanks Scott appreciate the positive feedback. River Clyde has loads of monsters also I believe, hopefully when these restrictions lift I will get fishing over there a few times. I don't really want to say what is the best rods etc.. to use as we are not doing this to promote things currently. We just want good footage for trout lovers to enjoy like ourselves. But I personally find the Greys GR70 Steamflex 10ft 3wt is my ultimate big fish rod. It is soft enough at the tip to feel every take and not loose a fish but has the back bone to land huge fish. We have landed fish up to 8lb with these rods. Tight lines
Awesome thanks I shall try source one, however don't seem easy to get hold of, must be good...👍 Yep Clyde is awesome to best thing I did move from England here. Any info you may need on Clyde give me a shout.
great video lads do you ever fish for the dollaghan in lough neagh itself ?
They’re netting them 500 tonnes a year they wiped the eel out not moving to the trout
Brilliant. Lovely fishing lads. Are yous euro nymphing there? Beautiful trout
Thanks.. yeah a bit of straight line nymphing and a bit of down and across action . The bigger fish love to attack a nymph swung across them ;)
Well done :)
Where is that location, name of the river...tackle set up and fly patterns...? Nice wild brownies...👍
Any advice on euro nymphing slower deeper water.
Where is this? Don't know many spots to go for trout and trying to find some more for this season
If you ever want to try the river maine shoot me a message. Me and my buddys local river. 👆
When you say straight line nymping are you using straight mono from fly line to nymps not tapered leader
Yeah we use a tapered leader to the indicator then straight mono to the flies.
Can you please tell me what river this is
What river is that lads?
What rod is that
Where is that
What fly u using?
Flies are in the video :)
This is out of season this isn’t allowed
Elo Tempra look at the vegetation. This was filmed in summer as there leaves on the trees.
