As a Kendrick fan it's a solid verse but people are overhyping it. His control verse and bet freestyle are way better
The only thing ill say to this is that it's not like he was ducking the smoke entirely. When it came to rapping on another artists' songs, or other artists rapping on his own songs, he was always out rapping them. I think the difference between those situations and this Kendrick situation is the diss aspect, because he got peer pressured into responding in a way that he thought was corny. I don't think he bowed out because he was scared of going back and forth with Kendrick, but rather because he took it to a place that he didn't feel right taking it to.

@@rhomanxviii that verse wasn’t a diss, that verse was bait. The energy he approached it with is why it hits harder. I don’t think it was bait for Cole though. I was hoping he wouldn’t jump out the window but once he did it was mid. Not because of what Cole wrote, but because of how he delivered it. It didn’t sound like he believed it for the 3 minutes he spit. I think he rushed through writing it, and could have come with some doubles/triples and punchlines if he had taken his time. That said, he shouldn’t have apologized, he should have sat on it and waited for Kendrick to respond back and then take it from there. I’m not a Stan of either, I’m a fan of hip hop. Cole is an amazing lyricist, but this definitely takes away from his legacy, because I think he had a legitimate chance to take the crown and instead he took a knee.

Nah - thing is, is that Cole has been saying on alotta tracks that "oh I'll kill all you rappers" or "come try me I'm king cole." and when someone actually tries him - he makes a diss, then apologizes. I think that's the reason people say he's not top 3 anymore. Calling yourself in your prime, dropping a diss back and then apologizing?
