If I was a PGA tour professional I would not go the LIV if it meant being barred from the tour, but, I still don't understand the reasoning behind the suspensions. Also, I don't understand what he meant by "free riding". If you can enlighten me I would greatly appreciate it! I truly want to understand both sides and I absolutely do not.

The PGA tour categorised itself as a non profit so it could avoid hundreds of millions in tax revenue. That decision is now haunting them since it also means they can't hand out guaranteed money contracts like other professional sports. The LIV tour is doing exactly that so it's not surprising top level golfers want guaranteed money. If someone loses their PGA tour card they're gone with very little support. I don't see how you can treat people as independent contractors and then complain when they go elsewhere.

Two issues, of which the first you covered perfectly. The second is that it's the Saudi Arabians. This brings ethics into play. How about events in China? Or Turkey? The economic aspect is not too hard to figure out. Someone backs up the truck with $100MM or $200MM, can't blame someone for grabbing the dough. Not every golfer cares about "legacy" or "leaving the game in a better place". Curious to know how Jay feels about events in China.

With the PGA having signed a 20 year deal with China in 2018 who has equally bad human rights history makes a mockery of this argument. The PGA is also happy to take Fedex sponsorship money while Fedex have signed a deal to invest 400 million dollars in Saudi Arabia last year. In today's cancel culture, shaming these players is an excellent way to dissuade those on the fence as well as those up and coming players who are eyeing the PGA tour but now can consider LIV as an alternative.
It's a shame that the PGA has acted this way - they talk about the greed of the players, but they are guilty of this as well.

Maybe you will understand it better this way. The PGA is more than the Men's tour. It is the developmental tours( Korn Ferry), The seniors tour and the LPGA. They nurture the player once he declares he is going to be a pro. It basically creates a minor league for the up and coming player. Once he is good enough to make it to the Tour he is given the opportunity to make a lot of money. They are introduced to corporate America at the highest level. People pay them to "advertise" for them. When they are no longer viable as a player they have a tour where they can make money after the age of fifty. They get the venues, the sponsors, the TV contracts and they have been doing it for many years(at least 50). They also contribute to charity and that is why they are a non profit which doesn't allow them to pay them salaries or expenses.
What is the Liv going to do? Are they helping the young golfer or the old golfer. Do they contribute to charity? They are just leeches stealing Tour players. They add nothing to the game. They just STEAL. They are just trying to sportwash their name but the Saudi's are barbaric.

The U.S. Open is going to be really interesting for much more beyond golf this week. For staters, you're going to have operatives from the PGA Tour watching their current members every move, while there will be the same from LIV Golf actively recruiting talent - including the players who have already defected telling those that haven't jumped ship how great their experience in London was. The golf will likely become secondary to the politics, but the net result is I expect there to be a number of current PGA Tour players that will sign on the dotted line with LIV Golf ahead of the Portland event following the U.S. Open. Depending on who the next wave of golfers leaving is, it very well could lead to the collapse of the PGA Tour as we know it.

However, what I fail to understand was his hypocritical remarks about Greg Norman and the golfers who have signed up to play for Liv Golf. Rory the only reason why you are in the USA in the first place is for the money, the only reason you go to Dubai is for the money and do not get me started on the Fedex cup. Outside of the majors played in the USA there should be no reason for European players to play in the USA, if you are really in it to grow the game then keep playing in Europe, and not go for the cash grab on the PGA tour.
The money paid in all major sports is obscene and golf is no different, the people who came in 21st place at this week Canadian Open earned more than I do for the whole year.
I would love to see Tiger sign up for LIV golf and then see the back tracking that Jay and the PGA tour would have to do.
    What a bunch of Hypocrites.

I agree with what many have posted here and on other sites. By taking a rigid stand against LIV, the PGA has made the situation worse. The players would have come back to the PGA as soon as they realized that winning on the LIV tour won't mean a thing if the players aren't competing against the best in the world. If the Majors allows them to play without penalty, the PGA will take a big hit.
