- Bijiyashanti Tongbram, from Thanga village near Loktak, the largest freshwater lake in the Northeast region is using lotus stems to weave delicate mufflers, stoles, and facemasks. Turning a completely unused part of the lotus plant, which is found in abundance in the lake, into beautiful garments, she has made a mark for herself after the PM mentioned her in Mann ki Baat. Indian Express visits her village to find out about her journey and how she does what she does.

The so called backward societies are always ahead in preserving the nature as they are more connected to nature. Hope more people join them in saving nature by changing their extravagant lifestyle.
Your talking govt and their cronies aka Hollywood types...always been PARACITES...always will be...their narcissistic traits must be culled from human beings.
sir, rightly pointed out but some exception is always there. There is a certain community call Kuki, they are mostly refugees, coming from Chin state of Burma........ they never preserved nature, they are destroyer.
In the name of jhum cultivation, a kind of shifting cultivation is practised, but now with modern equipments like chainsaws are available make them felling trees and deforestation at super speed. The worst part is they stop cultivating crops yet starting poppy plants cultivation.
It drastically changes the ecosystem.
Native ll always care and preserved nature, foreigner ll always target for its advantageous.
Well explained. The climatic sphere of manipur has also changed vastly because of the illegal poppy plantation in the hills of manipur
Laudable work👍
Thank you
The pronunciation of the manipuri words were quite good by the narrator.

Except she actually is doing it...QUIT being so RACIST
Instead of praising her , you are suspicious about her work .
So what She is contributing to society
@@arkaysam803 actually she is contributing a lot just you are unaware about it
1) first ,she encourages the our so called unemployment youth try to for self business or use your skills for new innovations in which sector you are well versed . Simply she is motivating us .
2nd, she also contributes a very little part of her gdp ( income per capita ) for enhancing Indian economic.
She is trying to does her business through sustainable development .and it's directly leads to less used of plastic and terricota clothes which are precarious to environment .
4th She is helping to our youth to getting empowerment in her business , have you not watched there are her colleagues who working with her .
6th she adopted a totally different culture of making garments and clothes .
How it is copying? People make silk from silk worm in many countries, r they copy?... Tata make cars too, they r copying other car companies? Stupid comment.
