I'm getting really old and want to pass along some tips to young aspiring horsemen and women. I was lucky enough to have older horsemen to advise me when I was very young and just starting out.
Keep spreading your knowledge I love the wisdom of the "old" horseman people. That's mostly how I learned everything about horses. It's people like you who help out our youngsters and teach them different ways. Hopefully one day I'll be one of those old horseman full of knowledge to spread to the young. Both of our horses are miniatures and were owned by my cousin. Before she got them one had foundered and it took a lot of time and close attention to get her to good hoof condition. I have learned a lot about founder and laminitis...something I never want either of them to go through again. Thanks for this video! BTW...Tucker is just the coolest character and the two of you are a great match!
Couple things not mentioned in your excellent video. Maybe on purpose, IDK. LOL. One is that the blood pumping function of the hoof is severely limited when horses have shoes nailed on bc the hoof can't expand and contract. It's one of the top reasons to leave horses barefoot and ride w/boots. Likewise concussion is a bigger problem with shoes. Lastly the maintenance of the barefoot foot is enhanced greatly when the hoof edge is beveled. I live in a dry climate (NM) and previous farrier trimmed the feet as if he were going to nail shoes on (no bevel, just left the edges sharp) and the edges chipped badly in the rocky dirt where our horses are turned out. Now with the edges beveled (it's not difficult or time-consuming) their feet are textbook gorgeous and smooth to the touch every single day from one trim to the next. Thanks for the video!

I want to use pine tar on the sole, bars, and frog but I am curious how long it takes to dry once it’s applied? i guess I will have to keep my horse in the barn tied up to cross chains for a while.I don’t want pebbles or mud to adhere to the tar..Any advice or suggestion? If your horse gets thrush it will smell nasty when you clean the grooves next to the frog. Coppertox is the most effective medication you can use. It's readily available at Tractor supply or most feed stores. No Thrush can be used as a preventative once you get rid of the thrush. It's also a treatment but I don't think anything beats Coppertox.
Hey equine helper my horse is barefoot but she slips a lot . I do barrel racing and she tends to slip or fall going around tight turns or a barrel which isn’t good .do you have any tips OR any boots that have spikes or studs in the bottom of them that I could find that will help us so we don’t have to get horseshoes because I found the scoot boots don’t have studs or spikes . Thank you so much for this info! My horses hoofs have cracks yet I live in a fairly moist environment here in middle Tennessee, so do you have any advice on what I can do???
#1 stay on top of the trim/shoe schedule #2 if still splitting, could be fungus has gotten into the layers of hoof wall (your farrier should be able to verify) so soak in white lightning after shoes are pulled and all cracks opened up. anything detached will never re-attach, so as bad as it looks its ok to open up cracks to expose and clean all black stuff. good luck
After watching amazing video realizes when she was talking about how when they stand it’s weaker for there legs with out the blood pumping up. Realizes he’s been standing like that the whole video.

Bag Balm, a product intended for chapped cow udders, is great for chapped skin on a horse like my black stallion who has sensitive skin. He gets chapped areas in the summer heat. It's also good for soothing minor scrapes and small cuts but you will want to switch to a dry product later in the healing process. These products are usually blue. Have someone experienced advise you on which product to use when and when it's more advisable to call the vet rather than treating it yourself. For puncture wounds, including on hooves, make sure to call the vet even if it doesn't seem serious to you. Enough already. You didn't come here for my advice.

I use a hoof dry paste on the soles of my horses hooves but I use conditioner on the hoof wall so that they don’t crack as easy

Use Hoofmaker if you can. It's not only good for your horse's hooves but it will give you very strong fingernails.
