Hi! I hope you can help me. I live in the country area and my property has a ton of arrowleaf balsamroot. I want to make a tincture, but I’m not strong enough to dig out the entire root. I tried and tried and I just can’t do it. The most I’ve got was maybe about 6 inches of the root bark and the inside of the bark included. Do you know if making a tincture out of what I dug up would be okay or does it have to be the entire root or a specific part of the root? I’m planning to wash it to get all dirt off and use the bark and inside of the bark to make a tincture. I hope to hear from you. Thank you so much.
The flower has no medicinal properties that I'm aware of. The leaves can be used topically for skin issues like rashes and eczema and such and are edible.
Plant illiteracy is a serious problem in this country. But yeah...the rascals are smart! :0) Doc www.homegrownherbalist.net/collections/singles/products/arrow-leaf-balsam-root-balsamorhiza-sagittata

Does the root smell like pine? I picked some yesterday and it has a beautiful pine scent. I'm hoping I picked the correct plant.
It's called balsamroot because of its balsamy/piney smell.

Do you know how to grow this plant? Any tips on starting them from seed?
Do the flower heads have any medicinal value or any other use?

The plants don't read the books and somehow are smarter than a lot of people.
