    Thank you, Wendy! I think mindful painting or drawing is a really good approach to really get in touch with your painting-subject. Those techniques are also great to calm yourself down when you feel like you are too distracted by negative emotions to paint at all. There is no need to paint a masterpiece on those days, but to paint at all can make you feel so much better. There are also a few techniques to loosen up before you actually work on a piece of art, that I find helpful. Doodling around random blobs of ink or watercolor-paint e.g. with an open mind. Just see where it leads you to and how it feels to see things emerge randomly on the paper. Sometimes this makes me even laugh and sets my mind into a playful state, that is really good for starting a new painting afterwards.
