@@toocool8050 ok I can answer this. I’ve bought a bottle once, still own the bottle. First off, buying a bottle is only worth it if you have people you want to share it with. And if they are willing to throw in it even better/. But restaurants do sell 1 1/2 ounce pours and 2 ounce pours also. Ruth’s Chris has it and they bring out this special waiter to tell you about it and it’s pretty cool. Also I remember the price being $200 a pour not $300. However the market for these has increased since I last bought mine 9 years ago. Basically China has been buying them up, increasing the demand and cost in the US. The issue is they can’t just make more, they are 80-100 years old. And if they just start opening more barrels, then they won’t be able to have them age as long, so the price stays high.
Ok now what’s the taste like. It’s got a smooth Velvet like texture, almost viscous in quality and surprisingly it doesn’t burn much at all. Like most whisky or bourbons or cognacs have some serious strong burn you have to get through in order to pick up the notes of flavor. This does not. The flavor hits you instantly. First you notice a little earthy syrup wood like note, then a sweet nutmeg like spice comes through where you experience a real full bodied flavor over the full tongue. Sip it, don’t shoot it, you don’t need to. Then you swallow, allowing air into the roll off your tongue and down your throat, allowing the olfactory receptors to do their work, a little syrup like fruitiness comes through with some rose undertones, and then you breath out, allowing the alcohol portion to leave your mouth. And I kid you not, for the next 20-30 min, with every rub of the tongue to the roof of your mouth, every breath slowly inhaled, and every swallowed bit of salivate, in my opinion, derives a sensational wonder of slightly fruity, fragrant, vanilla like Carmel. It’s insane how long the flavor lasts. You could sip and eat some amazing steak and the flavor transfers onto the steak. It’s like it clings to your tastebuds and nose and just let’s you know, hey, I’m that freaking great and sticking with you.
So is it worth it? Well as amazing as the flavor is, I think what makes it that great is it’s comparison, alcohol. Sip any vodka or tequila or whisky, etc out of a low ball glass and it’s going to suck in comparison. However the taste isn’t like a dr. Pepper cream soda. I mean if I picked a soda flavor to be similar that would be it. But my point is, it’s still alcohol. Similar to a wine, for people who don’t drink a lot of wine and love it, they will say grape juice is better no matter what kind of wine you give them. I don’t drink anything anymore but in my opinion a great bottle of wine is far better and much more complex than any cup of sugary grape juice.
So you have to ask yourself if your pallet can appreciate something as complex as the cognac yet, in order to appreciate it.
It costs around $3200 these days unless your lucky and find one at a liquor store that hasn’t been bough in 10 years and they still haven’t changed the price from back then. If you do find that, it will cost around $1700.
So that would be my advice is try to find nice liquor stores that have a lot of unique bottles and see if you can’t find one for less, because the internet will price it all the same, and vegas will be about $1000 more than the internet.
So then, is it worth it. Well here’s my opinion on it. For flavor, even though nothing else I’ve ever tried is the same flavor and lasts so long in the mouth it isn’t worth it. But...
      BUT...
When you consider the nostalgia of it... the fact that the people who made it 100 years ago!!! The craft that went into it and they couldn’t even enjoy it. The people that made it knew that they would never be alive long enough to enjoy it, that their kids probably wouldn’t be alive to enjoy it. It’s something special. It’s a piece of history, preserved in a bottle that no one that was alive back then is today. That idea blows my mind. And when drinking something that old from that time period, it all of the sudden becomes worth it! You realize 100 years ago, woman were just getting the right to vote, WWI ended and the troops were just starting to enjoy being back home with their families. The economy was starting to boom again, and everyone was driving around going 20 mph in their Model T’s. Horse and stagecoaches where dying off on the streets. Jazz bands were all the rage and new flamboyant dancing was becoming a thing. Old money was becoming equalized by new money young people who were bootlegging alcohol in their secret passcode basements of drug stores. People were enjoying life again. And it wasn’t just in America. Economy was booming in France too. The Art Deco period was about to burst open, America influenced jazz cafes and dancing in France too, something very different than their culture.
Medicine like penicillin antibiotics were finally a thing. Tv’s didn’t exist, planes weren’t around, and all the nonsense of political correctness and special pronouns were not even a fathom of an idea. Hardly anyone was fat. People made decent wages doing regular jobs. People went to church on Sunday, and acted with friendly smiles, real conversation and polite manors. No keyboard warriors or Twitter trolls back then. Antarctica was just recently discovered! It was a different time back then that we will never know. And yes we can own things from that time period, but to consume them, to enjoy what they enjoyed. To taste the same AOC grapes (not the idiot politician in New York) that they ate back then, in the cognac you get to drink today, is something special. To me anyways it is remarkably special. At least to do once in your life. So that’s my opinion on all of it. And if you buy the bottle, once it’s gone, the smell will always be there, mine still has the smell ten years later, and every now and then you can open it up and smell it and it will take you back to your own memories of the night or nights you drank it.
So here’s my cost analysis on your question, is it worth it? It would be worth around $50 a pour if just for the flavor, $80 a pour when appreciating the craftsmanship that went into making it, $150 a pour when realizing how much time was needed to have past for us to enjoy it. But it gets that special $200-$300 a pour when we put it all together and appreciate the nostalgia of if all, and reminisce back in time 100 years ago to what life was like then as we finish our steak and lobster dinner, take our last sip of wine and sit back and relax and begin to watch the sunset outside with our crystal lowball glass in hand. As we gaze at the large pine trees in view, taking in the smell of the wonderful sweet depth of Carmel aroma of our king Louis xiii Cognac. We notice that smell is combined with another, as we step out onto the wood porch, the large Old Pine’s, and it’s in that moment we begin to realize it’s just us and the trees outside that are still around who are able to enjoy a piece of life 100 years ago. And when your first sip hits and you look to the special gorgeous girl next to you that your in love with, you both are transformed to a life that existed we will never know. But can appreciate right there in that moment and never forget.
So yeah, it’s worth it. And that is one of my memories of drinking it.

Gettin' myself my 3rd bottle for my birthday. I'm gonna try getting one for each birthday for 10 years. I'm just gonna keep them in their cases in a cool, dry, dark room & never open them. My sons won't even know I have them 'til the reading of my will & they gotta figure out how to either enjoy drinking them or monetize them 20 or 30 years from now. I guess they could do both. Open 1 bottle to sip on & sell the rest. Either way... Surprise from dad boys!
