- A Coyote Attacks- tries to attack my Cat 3 times-but my dogs run to the rescue Caught on tape. My 2 dogs stopped a coyote attack on my cat before it could be fatal. A pack of coyotes was on the hunt in the city and had went after a neighbors dog earlier that day. My land is surrounded by houses,kids and playgrounds in the city. Shooting it isn't an option-discharging firearms are not allowed within city limits and the fact that my property is surrounded by houses doesn't make that a safe option.

I your pet is in danger because of another animal, you take a rod or big stick and go out to get your pet. You don't just wait and film for UA-cam

Of course their life is your responsibility, but anyone would be smart enough to know that your friends life, your life, your siblings life, and your parents life is more important than a house pet. If there was a fire, you should ALWAYS make sure those 4 things are safe. That does not at all mean i'm a heartless person. I love my pets very much but some people are much more important.

That wouldn't have gotten 1 million+ views though. The owner knew what he was doing. He even added some dramatic music for effect. The cat probably ran inside before all the drama went down anyway. I could be wrong, but did anybody actually see the cat in the coyote's mouth? All he had to do was walk out there and shoo the coyotes away from the beginning but no, grab the camera!

not a rocket scientist but it's obvious the coyote was gonna attempt to get the cat, best solution would of been to go out there before it does.

this video doesn't make sence,if your cat was in the yard and you saw the coyote,why would you wait until he has your cat to send out the dogs or run out and scare the coyote away
I have a small 10 acre farm and at times I have trouble with Coyotes. All of my land in fenced in with electric fence on the outside so normally they stay away. But sometimes I'll get some really stubborn ones that force through the shock into my farm. Believe it or not I have a small herd of 4 Guard Llama's and they do a VERY good job at keeping predators away! The moment something goes into the farm land they sound the alarm and charge full force at it. By the time I get there with my gun they've already stomped it to death! This year alone they've killed 3 coyotes,1 bobcat,2 foxes and 3 rattlesnakes. Best Security System I ever bought lol.

Joseph Moullay They had a little training first,but once you integrate them into your herd they get very protective of them and will defend them with their life. Their fine with people they know,I have 1 male and 3 females. Named the Male Spartacus since he is like the Spartan of Llamas lol.

Ummmmm why would you let your cat outside when there are coyotes present in your immediate area? You are responsible for your pet. The coyote is a wild animal and it will do as wild animals do, if it is injured or killed that is your fault.
I don't understand the need to wait to let the dogs loose...seems to me you just wanted to make a "cool" video...just walking outside would've made him run.
Its more fun to chase a coyote with dogs-then you know where its running.
One thought for the neighbor with the smaller dog; There are coyote 'proof' collars and vests for smaller dogs. The devices turn your dog into porcupines can't grip them while worn.
Like the other person said stay with them when they go out. Animal control may be able to help remove/deter them if enough of the neighborhood requests help.

Those are tiny coyotes, the ones that roam around here are huge but still scared of humans. I've chased off a pack before just by yelling. The only time I've felt threatened by a coyote was when I was near their den, probably the mother protecting her pups.

Coyotes are opportunistic, they're far more likely to run than go for something that much bigger than them. They rarely kill adult deer, which don't get even half as big as the average adult man. They hunt babies. Wolves are the ones that let you see one of them to allow the rest of the pack get your dogs, they've also not attacked humans and there are no REAL documented cases of a healthy wolf attacking humans unwarranted, and the only coyotes that have attacked people have been fed by humans and had their fear removed, were sick, starving, or trying to drive your dumb ass away from their dens. Coyotes are neither large nor powerful, and they know better than to attack someone that much larger than they are. Some may try a test bite or two.
Coywolves are not coyotes. They're mutts, as are coydogs, and more likely to attack humans.
This is a coyote, I don't care if you got ten there, go save your god damn cat and stop letting it out where there is wildlife. This jackass just wanted to let his dogs fight, I hope they get rabies. That'll teach him a lesson.
That coyote is lucky it wasn't my grandmother's cat. That cat is vicious, and attacks any canine. She once supposedly chased off a wolf (but this is local folklore, I don't know if it actually happened). I do know that she once almost chased someone's husky out of a vet's practice and several dog walker's dogs have got nasty injuries after they walked down her street, and the cat jumped the fence and descended on the poor dog like a homing missile.
Since she got neutered recently because of complications giving birth to her latest litter, she has become much more docile, to the relief of the local dogs and other neighborhood cats.
That's why it's always important to keep any small pets, cats and dogs indoors. They are easy prey for coyotes, and other predators. You're lucky your cat survived. What a pretty cat! Keep it indoors especially at night from now on!

Well I just feel like this whole video (which is poorly done and seems very VERY exaggerated for what it really is) is so he can bitch that he can't shoot the coyotes. There were many other simple solutions and people keep suggesting things like .22LR round or using arrows from a bow. None of that is necessary. All predators are the same. If attacking a prey is too risky, they won't do it. In fact, they prefer to be very sure they have a clear advantage so scaring them off with something like rocks or pellet/bbs is perfectly viable.

I live near a National Park where they got the wonderful idea to re-introduce coyotes, about 20yrs ago to control the deer population. Now all the suburbs around the park have deer AND coyotes in their back yards. Brilliant.

My heart skipped when you sent the dogs out,, I know it's first instinct but think first next time.. I'm surrounded by them, love hearing them at night, and if I see a pack i let them be, there usually just playing.. But when I spot a lone coyote? Straight to the gun safe.. They will outsmart your dog every time, they want a dog to chase them

From my experience coyote are pretty timid. I step to them n they scatter. If not my knife works great.
Of course they are afraid of humans and its highly doubtful you run fast enough to use your knife on one.
If you charge any animal no matter how big their flight response usually kicks in before their fight response because wild animals don't see humans as much as other animals so they don't know what humans are capable of. but you have to charge at like 100% u cant half ass it. its actually pretty funny.

Well one of the best defense vs a bear are at least two dogs. A bear has trouble fighting off two dogs.
Friend of mine has 3 hunting dogs that took out a pack of coyotes in just minutes .

I too have had issues with coyote's here in Mi. 2 of them attacked my neighbors dog's about 2 months ago,and they have been eating and killing chickens from other neighbors...they are a menace for sure,just getting braver and braver as time goes by out here...but we live outside of city limits and while we have neighbors they are not so close that we eventually all agreed that they need to take a dirt nap...I drilled the first one with a .22 mag a few weeks ago stalking my dogs and my closest neighbor did the same about a week ago..they are thick as thieves out here and the DNR is now gonna have to do something or put a bounty on them...I get the fact they are just doing what comes naturally to them and I'm not big on just killing animals AT ALL...but I think there is a line and these bastards are now crossing it. I won't do anything illegal but if this keeps up I'm not sure whats gonna happen...eating livestock is not cool and expensive..attacking my dogs crosses a line,my boy's are family and I can't be having that..even my wife now is wary about going out and running them without her pistol. Hopefully the DNR will thin them out.

I did-ran out right away.
1.) There is no chance that this coyote ever had this cat. Coyotes don't carry live prey around in their mouths; it would not have been left alive if the coyote ever got the cat.
2.) Coyotes are NOT pack animals! They hunt ALONE the majority of the time, the exception being during mating season (in the winter) when sometimes a mating pair of coyotes will hunt (and eat) together. One of the major characteristics differentiating coyotes from similar species of wolves is the fact that they are NOT pack animals; they're very antisocial.
3.) A coyote would NEVER attack a full-size 60lb dog. NEVER. In fact, it's highly unlikely that a coyote would even attack a cat. Despite the claim made in the video, domestic pets are ABSOLUTELY NOT easier prey than rabbits and squirrels; rabbits and squirrels do not fight back.
4.) If you were so concerned about your cat, why would you wait until you believe that the coyote is actually eating your cat before releasing your dogs to scare it away?

I was thinkin the same thing. my cats are in a cat pen and we dont have coyotes here, but hypothetically if a coyote was looking at my cat id be outside scaring it of asap not sitting there filming for a bit first. Even though they are not particularly famous for taking cats as prey, id still be out there in a heartbeat.

#1. Yes, coyotes carry live prey in their mouth. I've seen them carry a Boston terrier down an alley alive and they got spooked and dropped it, it was very much alive.
#2. Coyotes are actually fairly social animals and have been known to mate for life. I have often seen them in my area in packs of 2+... Most lone coyotes that I see in my area have mange.
#3. Coyotes live off of cats in my area, and smaller dogs. I can walk down into a desert wash in my neighborhood at any given time and find several remains, bones, and carcasses of cats and sometimes small dogs that have been eaten by coyotes. It's easy because cat carcasses usually just consist of fur, skin, and a tail and maybe a leg or two - everything else is gone.
Also, one of my neighbors actually told me last week she left her large breed dog outside all night in her back yard. When she opened the door the next day to let him in, he was barely alive and bleeding all over. She rushed him to the vet and the vet told her his wounds were from coyotes and he had to be put to sleep.
Coyotes are smart enough to use pack mentality and sophisticated hunting methods. They also look both ways before crossing the street - we have tons of coyotes in my area and very rarely do we ever see a coyote roadkill.

if you're worried about noise .22 subsonic rounds on a scoped rifle, neighbors won't hear the shot and you'll have a dead coyote, out your back deck it looked fairly open, you wouldn't be shooting into your neighbor's yards.
