I was in high school when the Sandy Hook shooting happened. I still remember what class I was in and what we were doing when we found out. Same for the Boston Marathon bombing except that was the last class of the day for me and we put the news on the TV. My niece is 8 years old and I worry about how the future will be for her.
Sadly, these active shooter incidents can and do happen in any public spaces. The important thing is to have a relationship with our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ, because no one truly knows when your last breath will be.

Parents all across the country are terrified now...they send their children to private schools to AVOID this sort of thing. The students are mainly from two parents homes, the students are in homes of faith and tradition. The students and parents are required to agree to rules and academic standards that are NOT existing in government run (public) schools. Now one can understand why more and more parents are choosing home schooling if at all possible. Note: Home schooling parents and students should NOT be mocked and considered second class, odd or weird.
As a teacher, my issue with home schooling is that, anyone wanting to keep their kids safe and away from secular concepts that may, god forbid, make them start to question religion, is that I went to college for FOUR YEARS to be able to teach ONE subject. These home school teachers somehow are knowledgeable enough to teach EVERY SINGLE SUBJECT and run a household too! Sorry, something isn't right about it. I don't know how it ever became a thing.
Regardless of one's position on gun control, it is indisputable that, in the United States, it is very easy for juveniles and adults to access guns. So, all the "terrified" parents and children from "two parent homes" and children from "homes of faith and tradition" live in a country that makes it very easy to access guns and has virtually no training requirement for owning/using that gun. In fact, in many of those "homes of faith and tradition" there are guns. When it comes to misuse of guns in America, it's "us" vs "them" because it's all "us".
We don’t consider home schooled children weird, home schooling MAKES them weird because they don’t learn to socialize with people their own age and adults other than their parents. And don’t minimize the fact that home school parents mostly teach their children about “faith” instead of how the world REALLY works. They grow up without the necessary tools to navigate in reality.

There is over 115k schools in America. There are 1.2 million sworn in LEOs. That sounds like a lot, but that is on all levels - highway patrol, federal, state, etc. Of those, not everyone works on scene. It would take every single officer in the state of California (in every role, every type, every function) just to have 1 officer at every school. You would need at least 2, because some shooters are pairs OR would take out the officer first. Now, there are 20k domestic violence calls a day. That takes a few officers because they are the most dangerous calls. That's just DV calls.There are around 600k calls a day for police. Again, not all sworn officers work the field. People call in sick, have time off, get injured. It is simply impossible to have a police presence that would make a likely difference, at every school, every day.
Stationing cops at schools is ineffective at stopping school shootings. You can google "do police prevent school shootings"--multiple people have done the research. Not only is the answer no, but it turns out that authoritative men with guns in schools is not good for students. It is not uncommon for children to be arrested and brutalized in schools with cops, and to nobody's surprise this tends to happen to special needs and non-white kids more. Also your idea would require that every PD in the US allocate (at least) one cop per school, for all of the over 115000 schools. 10% of America's police force would be sitting in school hallways every day. The burden would fall on cities to finance and plan this. (Also when cops are out giving tickets they're generating income for the city. If there was less ticketing being done, cities would need to deal with the reduction in budget along with reduction in police force).
When I was in high school in the 80s there were student vehicles in the parking lot with guns in plain view. No shootings happened because people weren't thinking a gun was the answer to their problems. This is indicative of heart and mind sicknesses. The problem is that law enforcement is inherently reactive. Somebody has to call them like Batman to arrive. By then, none of that training matters, because the damage is done. Hire on armed security contractors or arm school personnel with appropriate equipment and training. Those are really the only viable options that exist to deter, mitigate and prevent this things from either happening to begin with or from being worse. You have no problem with it for courthouses, banks, government offices, etc. But magically, when kids are involved at schools, 'guns are bad'.

How do they get the guns inside schools? There is a simple solution but no one will implement it. Metal detectors at every entrance just like at court houses. No backpacks. It’s almost like they want this to keep happening. I guess the lives lost and injured aren’t with the expense. My condolences to the families. I can’t imagine. I am grateful to be able to homeschool. It’s not easy and it can be very stressful at times. Especially for a 65 year adoptive mom of two who also doesn’t have anyone to give me a break. There is over 115k schools in America. There are 1.2 million sworn in LEOs. That sounds like a lot, but that is on all levels - highway patrol, federal, state, etc. Of those, not everyone works on scene. It would take every single officer in the state of California (in every role, every type, every function) just to have 1 officer at every school. You would need at least 2, because some shooters are pairs OR would take out the officer first.
Now, there are 20k domestic violence calls a day. That takes a few officers because they are the most dangerous calls. That's just DV calls.There are around 600k calls a day for police. Again, not all sworn officers work the field. People call in sick, have time off, get injured. It is simply impossible to have a police presence that would make a likely difference, at every school, every day.
Stationing cops at schools is ineffective at stopping school shootings. You can google "do police prevent school shootings"--multiple people have done the research. Not only is the answer no, but it turns out that authoritative men with guns in schools is not good for students. It is not uncommon for children to be arrested and brutalized in schools with cops, and to nobody's surprise this tends to happen to special needs and non-white kids more.
Also your idea would require that every PD in the US allocate (at least) one cop per school, for all of the over 115000 schools. 10% of America's police force would be sitting in school hallways every day. The burden would fall on cities to finance and plan this. (Also when cops are out giving tickets they're generating income for the city. If there was less ticketing being done, cities would need to deal with the reduction in budget along with reduction in police force).

When I was in high school in the 80s there were student vehicles in the parking lot with guns in plain view. The problem is that law enforcement is inherently reactive. Somebody has to call them like Batman to arrive. By then, none of that training matters, because the damage is done. Hire on armed security contractors or arm school personnel with appropriate equipment and training. Those are really the only viable options that exist to deter, mitigate and prevent this things from either happening to begin with or from being worse.
You have no problem with it for courthouses, banks, government offices, etc. But magically, when kids are involved at schools, 'guns are bad'.

Stupid comment by the Chief of Police that says schools don’t need metal detectors that they are a safe place. Has he considered where all these crazies are going to lately?
In his defence, the Police Chief clearly said , "Thoughts and prayers ..., Again..." like he too thinks its ridiculous thing to say " again " at this horrible time. He stated over and over that they train hard for this type of situation to save lives so of course he has CONSIDERED all that and more. Are you a cop?

When my son was born, I bought the book Real Boys by William Pollick, and he described male school shooters as crying bullets instead of tears. The bullying today is next level. I pray that they figure this out.

Oddly enough, Democrats want to outlaw homeschooling. The Democrats want teachers unarmed, they want schools dangerous, but they also do not want you to homeschool. The entire issue in our country is that people on the left are making adult decisions that impact all of us.
