I was one of those who followed Phil Donahue's daily morning show. It was always honest and always respectful of our intelligence. It was also entertaining and surprising. Donahue is an American hero! So sorry to hear of his passing. RIP great man... Thank you, Democracy Now, you for this coverage.

Actually he was old school, a genuine progressive covering issues in depth. Had he been ahead of his time he'd have been an unashamed propagandist for the neoliberal wing of the Uniparty, talking in insipid soundbites.

I loved watching Phil Donahue, his show was ground breaking as he brought dialogue to the American people kept in the dark by bureaucrats that we needed to hear an honest perspective on. As a young woman raising small children it opened up my world as to what was going on watching the Donahue show everyday. Bless you sir You have done a profound honor for this world You have now left.❤

R.I.P. Phil. I’ve sorely missed your show, and because of my own job, I wasn’t able to watch it nearly enough. I can remember one episode in particular in which your guest was Jerry Falwell and a member of your audience asked whether the Bible doesn’t say that we’re to love our enemies; and Falwell replied: “I love the [Russians]. I just don’t trust them.” Because the young man was apparently not familiar enough with his Text, he was stumped and I never wished so hard that I could’ve been there. If I HAD been, I’d have said that the Bible doesn’t say that we should trust them. It says: “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5 (KJV) There came a time many years later when he (Falwell) visited the city where I lived, and I was able to stand in ‘meet and greet’ line and shake his hand. When it was my turn to shake hands, I took the opportunity to relate the incident, and wouldn’t release his hand until I had finished. When I got to the part where I told him what he had said, he and his entourage got a big kick out of it and that’s when he tried to let go of my hand; but I held on tight and finished the story. When he heard what I would’ve said, he, and everyone else stopped laughing and became quite somber. He had no response, but it was thanks to you, Phil, who I’ll always remember. I know you’re in GOOD company. Thank you 🙏🏽 ❤

Exactly! Those who make the decisions would rather we never see/hear anything truthful but we must all remember & pass on exactly what they did & what they continue to do, ie, put their own pockets before people. We must challenge those who make the decisions rather than those innocents they choose to paint in a bad light in order to set us on them.

I was once a guest on Phil Donahue's show in, I think, 1992 looking at the chronic shortage of organs for transplant in or country and ways to increase and improve their availability for the thousands who need them. He assembled and led a diverse group of people in an impressive discussion that really advanced the topic. He respected everybody -- on stage, in his audience and on his staff and people returned the favor. Good man!

The sad state of affairs in the US is that we purport to have democracy, but in fact, it's an oligarchy. The evidence is overwhelming. Kamala Harris raised 500M dollars but why does anyone need that much money to win an election for a job that pays $400,000 per year? I will vote for her but if I had another real alternative who didn't raise so much corporate money, I would take that route.

Furthermore, in her rejection of every persecution against any man, the Church, mindful of the patrimony she shares with the Jews and moved not by political reasons but by the Gospel's spiritual love, decries hatred, persecutions, displays of anti-Semitism, directed against Jews at any time and by anyone.
Besides, as the Church has always held and holds now, Christ underwent His passion and death freely, because of the sins of men and out of infinite love, in order that all may reach salvation. It is, therefore, the burden of the Church's preaching to proclaim the cross of Christ as the sign of God's all-embracing love and as the fountain from which every grace flows.
    5. We cannot truly call on God, the Father of all, if we refuse to treat in a brotherly way any man, created as he is in the image of God. Man's relation to God the Father and his relation to men his brothers are so linked together that Scripture says: "He who does not love does not know God" (1 John 4:8).
