    Suitsupply is a great cost effective alternative. They have a model called the Washington, that has a structured chest and tapered waist, just like TF suits, and they come with peak lapels too.

    I would seriously recommend Pini Parma if you want a high quality suit made in easily the best lands for tailoring, Italy. They have loads of cool details, a good overall fit and are well constructed. The best point really is that they're one of the best brands for quality to price ratio, they will probably still rank slightly ahead from your local tailor, unless you got like a super long torso or super long arms. Don't forget, your supporting people who live in Italy which is a grade A in my books. I really dislike brands that make stuff in countries where most citizens are poor, since they typically don't pay them a fair wage. Sure its giving them a job, but its still keeping the status quo go on which is that they're super unhappy working in a low paid job, all while we take it for granted here really.

    Shoulder width and jacket length...measure accurately. Still expensive to alter but much easier to take in than let out.

    As soon as you touched the button I could tell that the Thai suit is fused construction - almost any suit will look good on a manequin, it's once someone starts moving that the difference becomes obvious.
    'Synthetic' (strictly speaking rayon is a natural fabric) linings are used on high end suits because they wick and breathe better than silk.

    An off the shelf suit should never cost that much. Only a custom tailored suit should cost that much.

    Literally stupid to spend $3k, $4K, or $6K for a Tom Ford suit instead of buying a bespoke suit from a tailor.

    Hey James, so you paid only $118 for a suit, no additional cost included in that price? If so I believe that you must have purchased a suit with a lower quality blend fabric, they have suits as high as $400, but those are their premium range, usually 100% wool like Tom Ford.

    • @MrJamesRose
      @MrJamesRose  4 роки тому +3

      The suits from the seller "BestTailors" Start at $118 - but with any premium option added the price will be up to you.
      My price in Canadian was $270 (maybe $200US?) with high quality super 160 wool and silk etc - and I paid them extra $20 to do a sewn full canvas interlining.
      Their regular non premium suit is still wool. Hope my experience helps.

      Was that the Thai Ford Suit you were wearing at the end, where you walk into to the room? If it is, looks good quality.

      I mean I would pay for a suit like Tom Ford. You pay for what you get. I don't own any thousand dollar suits and even though they are nice, I can tell they aren't best quality, good enough for now but my next suit will probably be an Armani suit.

    I was hoping to get your opinion on the ticket pocket as I’m thinking about whether or not to include it on my next tailored suit jacket. I read online that it is associated with country and is regarded as casual and informal. But I also see that it is a key element of the iconic Tom Ford’s business formal suits.
    What is your take on the ticket pocket? Do you think it looks sharp or makes a suit jacket looks informal and is a detail too many?

    • @MrJamesRose
      @MrJamesRose  Рік тому +1

      Hi @pmofthailand, In my humble opinion, I like the look of the ticket pocket, and don't feel it takes away from the formality of a suit. Similar to the fact that peak lapels are considered more formal than notch lapels, you could really get away with wearing either in a formal setting. I think the ticket pocket adds something to a suit to make it a bit more interesting. That said, all my ticket pockets have never been used so I don't ruin the streamlined contour of the suit. Hope this helps.

    Tom Ford is unnecessary expensive. Consider that the price of a Tom Ford suit is almost equal to the best bespoke tailored suit maker in London or Italy.
    On the other end there is the Thai suit or very famous are the suits from Vietnam, a little village called Hoi An is very famous for that.
    I can only hope the Tom Ford suit has used a nice fabric.
    But just look at Suitsupply, they are doing made to measure as well, but you choose the fabric and specify the details. You want hand sewn button holes, sure! You want side adjusters, absolutely!
    But the plus is the fabric, you can spent just shy of a thousand bucks for a S150 fabric, which is a very light woven wool, very light very breathable. And it will be made for you by craftsman in China. But you have craftsmen and craftsmen. Suit supply has worked hard on that to improve it, and today it’s really good. Very nice garments you can have it made to your body. And if full bespoke is still a reach for most people, Suit supply is a very good option to build a wardrobe. Later on when you a foundation you can have expensive pieces and cheaper pieces.

    Hey, I am thinking of getting a suit from canali due to its 100% wool and completely canvassed make. Are there any more differences that you found that aren't listed? Is it 100% comparable and able to compete with high end suits? It will be my first ever suit, so I want to make sure it will last and be as proper as possible. Thanks

    • @MrJamesRose
      @MrJamesRose  4 роки тому +2

      I think I hit most if not all the major differences in the video, but with the premium wool, silk lining and ensuring the suit is canvassed and not fused...and is cut in a way that looks flattering like a Tom Ford does... you're likely to get something that looks incredible. It would never be 100% comparable but for the money it was very much worth it for me.

    Interesting video. But how did the Thai suit feel as far as the fit? Also, just curious..why no belt loops?

    • @MrJamesRose
      @MrJamesRose  Рік тому

      Originally custom made suits did not have belts. Belts were introduced so they could sell suits in mass production. Also, if the pants get too loose then I just use suspenders.

    • @onsenguy
      @onsenguy Рік тому

      @@MrJamesRose contrary to what many people think, the purpose of a belt at least on a formal outfit is not to hold your pants up. It's more of a fashion accessory. A well-fitting pair of trousers will comfortably stay around your waist with no belt at all.

    impossible, the fabric alone will cost much more. Also, rayon isn't used in quality suits, it's semi-synth and it's just not durable enough. Forget off the rack even with alterations, go for at least MTM with a tailor with a good track record.

    You need to exercise dude. Your body is not a tom ford body. You are tall which is great but hold a lot of mass in your mid section and your shoulders don’t pop. The pants also fit poorly, they should sit higher.
