A normal strip is fine I run one that way my self (Sending End only) and its fine. But I did notice some of the fancier strips can be a issue and you loose a bit of speed and a longer connection time.I think he was trying to make it simple across the board.

In the outlets right next to each-other, about 6 ft away, on the same line and wall, I may get up to 50 mbps. And my panel is a 5 year old 200 amp panel and the house has new wiring.

      Wired is def better if ur in a house with other people using wireless also. Not even a chance otherwise. Wired has a near 0ms response time. I noticed that on wireless in some games my ping would randomly go way up for a sec. Wired, never although it had the sameish ping same games. But as I said, some wireless connections are even better than wired from a shitty ISP. As long as ther not getting interference from one of 10 other 2.4 ghz devices. Wired, or 5.0 GHZ is the only way to game proper on PC Imo overall. Balls to the wall as you said though. If u want every tiny advantage.

    • @wenisprinkle1704

      Yeah, although wireless could be alright to, wired is always better by a bit. Ur more likely to not have an open nat type constantly, and have cut outs in performance def. It uses 2.4ghz, so that means a lot of other wireless devices interfere.

    Something to consider when thinking about using power line adapters, they can cause significant interference to local radio users due to the fact that electrical wiring is not shielded and was never designed to carry broadband signals. If your power line adapters do cause interference you could be forced to remove them by local radio authorities such as the FCC or OFCOM(here in the UK)

      ***** Yes your right about gaming needs a good ping, now that DICE is testing 120hz servers the data rate needed is going to rise a lot hence the next game has less players as the servers couldn't cope without a upgrade. BF4 started at 10hz now it's 30hz and 10 client side or something like that but they are testing 60 and 120hz client and server side. With 120hz the player count might max out at 18 for now so we can expect Battlefront to be 60hz.

    For those wired network speeds he was running at 1gbps - which is theoretically 1000/8=125mb/s. Now with wireless you have to remember that they act like hubs do so the more wireless devices connected and transferring data will slow everyone else down due to interference. Power line tech looks good but as previous poster said, you need to be on the same ring in your building for it to work (depending on your electrical breakers).

    If you're operating a business, or a home entertainment network, you will want to stick with a wired connection (CAT5e/CAT6). Wireless is for slower solutions and portable devices. Powerline is only as effective as your homes wiring. So, if you live in an old house with old wiring, you won't get advertised speeds. Not to mention that it isn't well insulated so you'll also have issues there.

    depends on how far the connection has to travel over the powerline. When using a powerline cable you are suspect to electrical noise, faulty wiring, breakers etc. Also, the better the powerline adapter, the better the connection. there are Gigabit powerline adapters that are far superior to the 200 mbps that linus used. I personally use a 200 mbps one, and pull about 35-43 mbps from my 55 mbps int. I am going from ground 1 to ground 2.

      In theory, yes. Practically? It's negligible until you get to the extremes and it depends on what cable you're running. For instance fiber will have little to no degradation while a normal cat5 is around 250ft.

    • @daymianhogue1634
      @daymianhogue1634 10 років тому

      Jerry's a bit off. I believe you lose a theoretical 1Megabit/Second for every 100 feet.

    • @CorginShep
      @CorginShep 10 років тому +3

      Daymian Hogue No I'm not. I work with cat5e/6 cables in my IT internship and we're limited to 250ft/80m. The normal signal degradation limit is 100m but we keep it shorter than that.

    • @daymianhogue1634

      It's all theoretical. There's endless variables...Blah blah blah point is shorter is better eliminates variables lowers chances of interference, ect.

      jerry lui who would pay for fiber in their house? cat 6 is a better means, plus it can go 100 meters, yes i said meters optimally, cat 5, 6 and 7 can handle gigabit, but only 7 can handle 10gbps

      well most power strips usually come with line conditioning and or surge suppression which will effect these, which is why it's advisable to by pass any power strip with these. i think that if they would have mentioned some of the caveats of the power line adapters it would be a more rounded video. these work great if the conditions are right however in some situations you have rooms that are on different circuits which prevent these units from communicating with one another and as well as the wiring and distance also effects overall bandwidth.

      Jessey Lawson i actually hooked my powerline adapter up on different circuits the first time, and it worked. It wasnt very good thoug so I called cisco and they were like "uhh, that shouldnt even work"

      Jessey Lawson exactly you’re not supposed to put a power line adapter on a power strip or surge protect as is can mess with the performance. Might as well use WiFi then. Powerline adapters need a dedicated outlet in the wall to do their job.

    If this can outperform Regular Wifi in regular conditions I'd be surprised. Does anyone remember in the days before home networking really existed to end users? I remember having the same concept of the Power Line to share the 56K Modem (or if a room didn't have a phone line). That shit was TERRIBLE. But like people commenting said It would depend on the home. This was a mid 70's home at the time.

    10 years on, Ethernet cables remain the fastest option, but I've set up many UK users with Powerline, nowadays theoretically capable of 500 mbps or faster, not 200 as here. Some modern 'wireless' Powerline systems offer a hotspot, AP/router, or repeater/extender mode. If Powerline won't install, check everything shares one circuit, as big premises such as a hotel can have several unlinked circuits if the building has expanded over the years.

    It did not work for my customer, I had him buy a TP link two unit model such as the one in this video.. after more than an hour trying to set-up at a distance with him on the phone I gave-up, it seem that power line models work on the same electrical circuit, but when on a different circuit it may not function, so it got returned to Amazon.
    I told my customer to go and buy the Netgear wall plug wifi mesh single extender that was in-stock at his local Staples store. It has worked perfectly, my customer has an IP phone that is far from the router and requires a wired connection. With the WPS setup I was able to guide him over the phone. Really great during Covid as he is 79.

    I use powerline and I freaking love it. I don't plug it in the wall and it works fine, but that decreases the performance. If you use wireless you can almost always use powerline which costs about $100. If you use wireless you should definitely go for it. As for cable, when I had it, I ran it through the roof.

    Sounds like a common problem that most people have while using power line. What he didn't mention, probably because he didn't know is that with power line you need to be use the adapters on the same branch from the main line. While his office may only have a one or two branches and he seemed lucky enough to be on the same for most people this isn't the case. I live in a two floor town home and I have two branches such that I need to use the power line to go upstairs then Ethernet for the rest.

    The point maybe the over power line solution plus changing the way we do data for example if we integrate the diamond spectrum data scheme we could squeeze about 100 MB down to 10 bytes of transmitted data and expand it back using diamond light spectrum spreading and angling of diamond

    You unwound the CAT cable wrongly and introduced twist, that's why you didn't get a neat coil when you rewound it. You should have put a round bar or postal tube through your initial coil and reeled it off as you laad it in that way you get no twist in the cable.

    Just an FYI to your viewers out there; if any of them are amateur radio operators, the power-line adapters tend to throw off quite a bit of radio frequency noise in the 40, 10, 11, and 12 meter bands, resulting in about 2 or 3 "S-units" of distortion in their receivers.

    • @rv6amark
      @rv6amark 8 років тому

      Gavin Snyder's comment concerning RF noise in the ham bands is completely correct. Outside the ham bands, it is far worse. I saw S9 noise from about 12mhz up through 55mhz except in the ham bands where it was S2 to S3. So if you are a SWL, or have a neighbor who is, you may want to consider WiFi or Ethernet. I went back to WiFi.
