First one Ricky talks about is the female one both are stunning 😍 👍
Both fish have an incredible pattern on them. If you go to a 1 minute and 29 seconds. I believe the male is on top which is the more white one. The female is on the bottom which is the more black one. I can see and tell the koi bloodline quality. I love koi and breeding then. 🐟😀👍

A fish is a fish, they look the same to me. Maybe fatter n more colors.
Disappointing. The title says. "How to select," but the whole view was 'great body' 'big head,' etc. What made it a great body vs lesser koi? How was a head better than a lesser fish? There was virtually nothing specific as to what characteristics to judge by. Honestly, IMHO, neither fish was balanced at all. They may grow balance at some point, but I wouldn't want either fish based on how they are now. I'm sure you are right in that they have really grown to be so young. That is a plus, but in the end, it's the color and pattern balance that I think most people enjoy. I watched a video yesterday on 'How to grow big koi...' That video said nothing about how to do that. Please focus the videos on the subjects.
