I heard this piece up at NAU during All-State this year. I swear the trombones were tea-bagging me as they played this song. SO LOUD!!! But amazing! The conductor also broke his baton which only added to the sheer ballsiness of the piece!
We played this last year in symphonic band, i played the soprano sax part. I saw the judged headbanging when contest time came and i learned after the show that none of our judges had heard the song before. We got sweepstakes and had a kick ass show :) double win!
The MSU Wind Symphony (the band this piece was made for) performed this at our high school as a pre-premiere performance.... now, with help from MSU, our band is playing this piece at the Mid-West Conference!
@Codack68 The "video game" is called Audio Surf. It takes music and fashions a roller-coaster that fits with beats in the song. You collect the colored tiles and dodge the gray ones.
@gameexpert09 When you start up a game of Audiosurf, you choose an mp3 file on your computer. The game analyzes the song and converts it into this rollercoaster-of-sorts. You have to collect the colored blocks along the way and match 3 or more to get points. Gray blocks muck up the works and make it harder to get points. If you end the "course" with no blocks left you get bonus points. It's a lot of fun with Blue Man Group songs, IMO.
We're actually playing this in the White Knoll Marching Pride. I'm rather proud to be in it, it's actually the Region Champion of our region... Unfortunately, the ballad in the piece we're playing is from Twilight. :/
i'm not sure. the whole busy city idea sounds very cool, but it also sounds a bit more like a high school marching band concept to me. just my two cents
We played it my high school, senior year and we got sweepstakes. I dont know if its a very well-known song yet or not, but at the time we played it, none of our judges had ever heard it and we actually had one judge headbanging :D Needless to say, they liked it. I played the soprano saxophone part and was very proud of the work we did in this song. Im not gonna lie though, it was frieking hard, and we were still far from perfect when we played, but it was a great performance nontheless :)
Hey, no problem. :) I wouldn't worry about it too much. It will definitely take time to master, but it will blow everyone away when you pull it together. I wish our band played it before I graduated, but oh well.
@LAKings0101 In an attempt to not be biased, I marched in PC this past summer (as if that statement really helped LOLZ) and I saw Bluecoats. To me, it felt like Bluecoats was caught up in all the notes going by (they played it more like the original) whereas ours had fewer notes but more gut-busting blocks of sound.

One of the highschools in my region is marching to this. They're screwed
Was really fun playing this and meeting Mackey at TMEA this year. This doesn't sound nearly gnarly enough. Oh well, we can't all be perfect. 8)

Texas 5A All State band (not sure whether it will be symph or concert, probably symph) is doing this this year...
awesome song, silly rocket
I'd pay tons of cash to see a band march to this song, because i dont believe it can be done. This song is on a grade 6 difficulty lol
even though the solo is written for a clarinet (i think) im going to play it on my soprano!!!!!
It's a game called Audiosurf. :)
Good luck with this, Gresham band.
John Mackey should write Pokemon battle music.
Pacific Crest and Bluecoats are using this.
Hey, no problem. :)
I wouldn't worry about it too much. It will definitely take time to master, but it will blow everyone away when you pull it together. I wish our band played it before I graduated, but oh well.
Interlochen Arts Academy brought me here...
