LOGIC PRO X - All About Fades

- In this episode, Jono is having an in-depth look at Fades. Mostly, he'll concentrate on how they can help us manage the transitions between audio files which, if we're not careful, will click whenever we use the Scissors Tool to chop them up. If we simply slap one audio file next to another, it's unlikely that the flow between them will be smooth, as we'll hear when we bounce two pad sounds to audio, checkboard-edit them and press Play. The clicks at the join points are hugely obvious. Analysing crossfades, equal-power crossfades and curved fades, Jono will take you on a tour of Logic's possibilities, to help you make musical choices about how to work with the borders of audio regions. Towards the end, he'll also show you how to create and control a Fade Out for your whole track.

Wow, what an informative video and so well presented, should be receiving much more love than it is, I highly recommended it!
Thanks David! Glad it was helpful.
Great video. Cheers from Brussels!
Thanks so much. You live in a fantastic city!
As always, the best teacher on the internet, making my life just that much easier one week at a time. THANK 👏 YOU 👏
Thanks Jennifer. So glad the videos are continuing to prove useful.
Brilliant tutorial and explained so well. First time viewing your content, but I am now a fan! Thank you very much you have really helped me.
Thanks so much. Delighted to hear it was helpful. There are new episodes on this channel every Wednesday and a new Short every Saturday. Welcome!
@@jonobuchananmusic you are very welcome and I mean it. I literally was blown away by just how clearly and concisely you explained everything and yet it was also so engaging. I am subscribed now, as I truly do value good and accurate teaching.. Look forward to your future content and will take a peek at some of your previous videos also🙏🏾
Multiple Divide!!! Wow. Killer feature. Didn't know that was in there. Thanks JB.
It is indeed. Works with MIDI too - a really useful way to turn a long sustained note into a driving, punchy one.
Thanks so much! Love your video tutorials. I always discover some little trick and it inspires!
Great to hear, thanks so much.
Another excellent vid bud, wish I had your knowledge of Logic but hey ho upwards and onwards cheers
Thanks. And absolutely - always onwards and upwards!
I've been very busy lately and haven't had time to watch Jono for a while. However, this means I can come here today and binge watch a load of Jono videos. Needless to say you don't disappoint Mr. Buchanan. I have even watched non-contiguous beast of video - keep up the great work.
Ha! We really must do something with that name! Thanks Warren - so happy to hear the videos are proving useful.
Maybe the best Logic Pro tutorials on UA-cam. Thanks!!
Thanks so much. Greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much, you explain so very well!!
Thank you!
Thank you sir!
You’re welcome!
Excellent video. I've been using Logic for years and feel I'm a pretty competent user but I always take the time to watch you as you never fail to slip in a little trick that I've missed or never used. Many thanks Jono.
Thanks so much. I’m glad the videos are containing a few little nuggets for you!
I've been using Logic for over 10 years and crossfades are still a mystery to me. I find it incredible unintuitive compared to other DAWs I use daily. Thanks for doing thing/
Hi David, I agree. Fades are not Logic's finest hour, particularly compared to Pro Tools. But they're better than they used to be!
You can always trust a man with a nice British or Aussie accent!
That’s right! 😉
Thank you! This couldn’t have come at a better time as I’ve been struggling with a click in *exactly* the way you’ve been demonstrating! You can add ‘psychic’ to your list of qualifications now too 😉
Excellent to hear. That's going straight on my resumé... ; ) Thanks Peter.
THANK YOU MUCH SIR.
You’re most welcome!
Hi,
Thanks for the video.
I find adding cuts or splitting parts an absolute nightmare in Logic. I have snap set to ‘smart’ yet even if I’m zoomed out to see bars, and I split between bars 2 and 3 (for example), and then I zoom right in I can see that actually the splits are rarely bang on the bars… they’re slight out..?!
Even though the mouse and split tool ‘snapped’ to what looked like the bar.
Clearly I have something set wrong, but I’ve tried snapping to zero, not snapping to zero, relative points etc., etc.
Any help would be massively appreciated.
And finally, surely there’s a fade handle or something on every part? It can’t be the case that for an action that everyone will probably be using very often, they have to go to a menu and select a fade tool?!
Anyway, thanks for the content.
Greg.
Hm, that's odd about the Scissors Tool not giving you bar-accurate chops. I'll have a look into this and come back to you if I find anything useful out. Yes, if you stay in 'Fade Tool' mode, you can adjust handles for fades once you've swiped across an area you want to Crossfade (or fade in and out). Draw the fade by swiping across the audio region(s) and then use the same tool to make any adjustments by dragging up/down/left/right.
I've also had the inexact cut issue. You zoom into full after the cut and it's not on the measure, just a hair or two off @jonobuchananmusic
@@jenniferlaynemusic Hm. Make sure you both have 'Division' or 'Smart' selected as the 'Snap' value and that you've selected 'Snap Regions to Absolute Value' from the menu here. Let me know if that fixes it.
