Air Transport International - ATI McDonnell Douglas DC-8-62CF (Built 1968)
N799AL (cn 45922/335)
Flew that jet (799AL) MANY, MANY times as the flight engineer. 1996 - 2004.
Great quality video. It was amazing to also see this from the outside. The take off felt very powerful from the inside too. I wish I'd known that you and Philip were going to be there, as I would have made sure to say hi to two true enthusiasts!
I love this plane! UPS was flying them up to a couple of years ago in Louisville....They had the 71-72 series, longboys...had to employ tailstands while parked to prevent tipping over. They had the huge CFM-56 engines, glass cockpits, EPHIS, the works...they were pimped out...UPS has more money than God, so it's to be expected....I worked commercial airline ramps for 16 years.......have given my share of airstarts....I still miss it....Great vid!!
She is a Combi Freighter this bird holds 32 passengers in the back and 11 - 13 pallets of cargo in the front. It can be configured for military or civilian pallets. I worked these aircraft in KBWI & KWRI. Very reliable and truly awesome aircraft
Thanks, you make this Old Dougloid Proud!
Those look like old Northwest seats. I flew on a -71 once. Very cool video, Ryan.
Such a Beautiful Jetliner. Thank you for sharing with us
I flew in a DC8 in 1989 from Stansted airport UK to Honolulu airport Hawaii, we had a stopover in Anchorage Alaska great flight over the North Pole and down the North Pacific to Hawaii, great plane and flight from Hawaiian Airlines.
I appreciate the kind words! Your takeoff vid from inside is just amazing, one of your best. I can't wait to see what else you have to upload, it's going to be gold!
Poetry in motion. Great ground coverage!
Great video! I love the old jets. One of my first memories flying as a kid was seeing the cockpit of an A300. I think it was a B4 but I can't be sure. The captain let me flick some switches and showed me the different gauges and what they were for. I'm sure kids can't do that anymore!
Beautiful bird right there!
DC 8 62 e B. 707 sono stati i signori della nuova aviazione commerciale. Senza dimenticare altri due grandi con poco successo, il Convair e il Super VC 10.
Great video. Although I've always been a 707 fan, this ain't bad either. LOL!!!
You have outdone yourself sir.
O DC-8 está entre os meus preferidos...!!!
Just managed to catch a glimpse of the slots slightly ajar at the takeoff positions. Great.
Going into this video thinking that ATI is a cargo airline
Me leaving video to read a book. Finding out that ATI is also a passenger airline
Brain jumps off a cliff 😂
Wonderful. Thank you.
Beautiful
As a flightline mechanic I spent hundreds of hours on the dc8 it was an easy aircraft to keep in the air ' but I felt sorry for the guys trying to keep the old freon ac system operational some times ha ha great plane !
The DC-8-62! The model DC-8 Captains called "The Cadillac!
Flew all 3 seats of the DC-8 -73,63,62,61,and the55. I loved that airplane and still think it was the finest Airliner ever built...PERIOD. Then I flew the MD-83 and that aircraft was another perfect Airliner to leave Long Beach. What a special time that was,,,,,,,,I was so very lucky to fly those two Douglass Airliners. Flew Boeing stuff also. Never liked them....plus nothing came out of Seattle that ever could look as sexy as a DC-8-63.
Great footage Ryan. I got some footage of 799AL at KMCC before and after the flight.
I see ATI at Hickam AFB all the time. My friend was a pilot there, he said, "dude, I'm flying a plane that says United on the yoke, but they won't hire me."
Gorgeous
I second that!
At 18, ny flight to USAREUR was on a -63 all PAX out of WRI. Smooth as silk.
I am so full of envy watching this!
I have never seen a DC-8 engine start without a start cart. Did none of them have an APU?
Yes, some 70 series and a couple 60's.
If I'm not mistaken, the Boeing 727 (which came a few years after the DC-8) was the first jet airliner to have an APU fitted as standard equipment and incorporated into the original design specs.
I worked for this company last year @ MCC. Great bunch of guys out there.
Unfortunately, I never worked on one with the JT-8's on it, only the modern CFM-56s.
You mean jt3d3b ? I worked dc8's for years never saw jt8's ' the cfm56 conversions are real cool tho!
Loved the DC-8, it was so very comfortable compared with the 707 or 720. Add in the 727 and you had 2 1\2 decades of terrific single aisle aircraft.
TMbem gosto.muito do Dc8
My past self must have liked that plane :P
My home airport! :)
Anyone know what the price is for one of these tours? I'd love to do this someday.
Toledo Express Airport had ATI cargo DC-8's fly in less than a year ago.
I do stand corrected. Those are JT-3s. I didn't think anybody was using those old smokers anymore. Good call, apologies.
was that a boeing c-17 globemaster III on 10:30?
Hey are those the same engines used on the MD-8X series jets? Of so, that is one overpowered aircraft. No wonder it finds work still today. Anyone know the full dope on this particular aircraft? Is
Nice and the next model used the CFM56
Possibly part of the APU intake or exhaust system?
wow.. The old Rolls-Royce " Conway Engines were smokers too..
JT3D-7 on 799.
Are those power plants Pratt and Whitney?
Anyone know what's the purpose of those vented areas on the pylon above the nacelle?
yes
No it was a Cessna, they are considerably smaller.
MMMMMMMM smokin!!!!
It's a beautiful lady :-)
