It is amazing how many of these really good black and white films are available for free on UA-cam. A lot of people especially young ones won't watch anything but colour and if wasn't made in the last five years they are not interested. A lot of these movies are "B" meaning they were quickies made to fill 'double features'. Does anyone remember when you could go to the theatre and see two films. In fact you could sit all day and watch them over and over without anyone throwing you out.

28.3.21 Utube. From UK.Shadow On The Window. Yes weve seen about 40 of these kind of BW films. This one is amazingly good picture quality. Thats technology for you. They did this cat our local theaters, but II especially remember my dad and I going to a movie theater in Times Square, NYC, one of many in Times Square area. We’d see a newsreel, cartoon, a “B” movie, and a feature film, such as “Bridge on the River Kwai”. Then we’d go to a restaurant. I loved their Napoleon pastries. We’d see movie celebrities, such as Jack Warden, sitting at the next table. Good times. - BG

Jerry Mathers, born in 1948, was 9 years old when they produced this in 1957, the same year they started filming the 'Leave it to Beaver' series. He looked a lot younger than 9 here, he looked about 5-6. I guess that's why they could run 'Leave it to Beaver' so long.

@@SMAY0001 Right you are! Thanks for noticing THAT 'trivia' (I hadn't checked the full cast list until reading your reply, and now that I have, I should hasten to add (for those too young to know) that Jerry Mathers was the star of the immortal TV series 'Leave It To Beaver', and Philip Carey was famous as the Captain in the TV series 'Laredo' (a comedic-dramatic western), and Betty Garrett was a regular in the TV series 'All In The Family', 'Laverne and Shirley', and 'Golden Girls', and of course Jerry, Philip, and Betty had many roles in movies of the 1950's. Incidentally, having grown up back then, when Phil Hartman came into prominence he always reminded me of Philip Carey, and I wouldn't be surprised if he actually had modeled at least one of his characters after Philip Carey, but they also looked and sounded alike (when Phil 'used' his Philip Carey persona).
Lastly, as for Corey Allen, not to be morbid, but IF he had been in the car with James Dean on that fateful day of his fatal accident, Corey would be just as famous as James, and the same goes for Richard Davalos, who, like Corey as Buzz (Rebel Without A Cause), gave an OUTSTANDING performance in 'East of Eden', in the role of Cal's (Dean's role) brother Aaron, every bit as compelling, if not more so, than that of James Dean. Davalos and Allen made many more films, but remained obscure as 'fate' would have it, unjustly. Both of those films are perfect works of art in which EVERY actor and actress in both of those films delivered STELLAR performances.

Even if we never saw a "Shadow On The Window", we saw plenty of everything else that makes for a very very good movie. As I am not a movie critique, all I can say is that the picture, sound, settings, photography, dialogue, acting, and plot were pretty exciting! This may have to be entered on my list of 'Fav's'.
The Very Edge is first. The House of Frontons is 2nd. This is the 4th and regrettably forgot the 3rd. Thank you, thank you, hburger 5.

It was so much more fun to go to the movies back then ('50's into the '60's). Especially the Sat kid's matinee. You'd get a variety of shorts, maybe a newsreel, maybe a popular music group a la MTV and, best of all, a cartoon! When that WB logo flashed on the screen with Bugs Bunny in the middle, it made the hair stand up on your head. Or even better - Popeye!!! He always got the loudest cheers from the kids.

I'm a 73 yo man, my wife is 78 and we only ever saw two movies at theatres here in Australia. As someone belows said "... haven't watched TV for years...' we only watch TV for a garden show, a 30 M series, Landline, a cooking show and me Australian football. I have downloaded about two thousand movies which we rate as good and excellent. Thanks to all the various people who Upload the movies. Do many people outside of Australia see in in a theatre or via UA-cam Australian movies?

Thank you for presenting Shadow on the Window with a fine cast, including Philip Carey, Betty Garrett, and Jerry Mathers before Leave it To Beaver made him a star on television. Also, Ainslie Pryor (the doctor) was best remembered for the TV sitcom, The Adventures of Hiram Holliday, with Wally Cox, a few TV guest appearances, and the Paul Newman film, The Left-Handed Gun (1958), his last acting role before his death. Loved the tension-building plot typical of 50's films showing middle-class America under siege from crooks (think, The Desperate Hours, for instance). BTW, I believe I saw this film on TV years ago, so it's been a while.

The woman, Linda, Petey's mom, was Irene McNabb on "All in the family" She and Archie despised each other on the show. She knocks on Archie's door, he answers. She wants Archie to look over a petition she is trying to get signatures on. "Oh,ahh...say Irene...what was that song by Irving Berlin with your name in it?" She looks puzzled, replies "Goodnight Irene?" He quickly snaps back "That's the one" and slams the door in her face!

I was always amazed, coming from New York, where film is kind of a revered art form, especially the great noir films of the 40's and 50's and the great musicals of the 30's.... to arrive in the UK years ago, and nobody would watch a black and white film. They thought it was 'old' if it wasn't in color. Missing the point and completely ignorant of the art form.

Like all people who were in the entertainment industry at that time, they actually had talent.... Could usally sing, dance, play a musical instrument as well as act. Not like today, their talent lies in who can wear the skimpiest outfit on stage, or how outrageous they can be on a reality show.
