It is amazing how many of these really good black and white films are available for free on UA-cam. A lot of people especially young ones won't watch anything but colour and if wasn't made in the last five years they are not interested. A lot of these movies are "B" meaning they were quickies made to fill 'double features'. Does anyone remember when you could go to the theatre and see two films. In fact you could sit all day and watch them over and over without anyone throwing you out.
Damn I wasn't around during that time, but I am young and I love love love black and white movies, they are the the bomb! You are right though, young people mostly seem to dig the NEW films these days... that's wack imo.

"Everything we love" indeed! I mean look at where the house was located and how charming and neat it looked. Skies were much much more bigger back in those days.

They did this cat our local theaters, but II especially remember my dad and I going to a movie theater in Times Square, NYC, one of many in Times Square area. It was so much more fun to go to the movies back then ('50's into the '60's). Especially the Sat kid's matinee. You'd get a variety of shorts, maybe a newsreel, maybe a popular music group a la MTV and, best of all, a cartoon! When that WB logo flashed on the screen with Bugs Bunny in the middle, it made the hair stand up on your head. Or even better - Popeye!!! He always got the loudest cheers from the kids.
SEE RANK Paul Picerni who plays Phil Carey's sidekick, Bigelow, was a fixture in the TV series, The Untouchables. He was also had a distinguished WW2 record as a bombardier.
I think a lot of general police work goes along just like this. I recall reading crime mysteries...the Shell Scott and Perry Mason books, many others too. I liked this.
Yet they never thought to start where boy was picked up by truckers, and work their way back down the highway. Or did they? I haven't watched it all yet.

Fab film, I have seen it before. Great quality. Made in 1957 .Directed by the great producer and director William Asher who was very prolific and talented. Thank you for sharing this treasure.
I thought that's who it was! Yep. And Joey is the father in "Next Stop Greenwich Village". Nope. sorry, that was Mike Kellin, not Gerlad Sarracini. Sure does look like him though.
Dear hburger5 and UA-camrs, May 2019. I'm a 73 yo man, my wife is 78 and we only ever saw two movies at theatres here in Australia. As someone belows said "... haven't watched TV for years...' we only watch TV for a garden show, a 30 M series, Landline, a cooking show and me Australian football. I have downloaded about two thousand movies which we rate as good and excellent. Thanks to all the various people who Upload the movies. Do many people outside of Australia see in in a theatre or via UA-cam Australian movies? There is a 1946 movie about Charles Ulm and Kingsford Smith who were the first fliers to fly from the U.S.A. and Australia God bless for Juan in Brisbane Australia.
Most movie theaters across the U.S. have long been too small, too loud, and too expensive. The days of the 'picture palace' are nearly extinct, as are drive ins.
Thank you for presenting Shadow on the Window with a fine cast, including Philip Carey, Betty Garrett, and Jerry Mathers before Leave it To Beaver made him a star on television. Also, Ainslie Pryor (the doctor) was best remembered for the TV sitcom, The Adventures of Hiram Holliday, with Wally Cox, a few TV guest appearances, and the Paul Newman film, The Left-Handed Gun (1958), his last acting role before his death. Loved the tension-building plot typical of 50's films showing middle-class America under siege from crooks (think, The Desperate Hours, for instance). BTW, I believe I saw this film on TV years ago, so it's been a while.
Philip Carey possibly best known for commercials where he ripped off the top of a potato chip bag with his teeth, then asked viewers, "Are you man enough for...Granny Goose?"
Betty Garrett was a very successful actress of the 40's, playing musical comedy mostly....one of my favorites is "On the town", when she co-starred with Frank Sinatra, Ann Miller and Gene Kelly.
Great movie from William Asher (from all the mid-sixties bikini movies, Annette/Frankie duos, and Bewitched fame). This movie reflects what used to be America in the fifties early sixties - may be not that violent but it fostered traditional American family values, community connection, good triumphing over evil, ... An era long gone. Peace be with you all, Ciao, L (a Baby Boomer who lived that era).
Wow movie was better than I thought it would be thank you for uploading it taking the time and the volume was terrific didn't have to wear earplugs or anyting. Another great evening spent watching old-fashioned entertainment
I think the cop (Jerry Mathers) father was in General Hospital) John Barrymore Jr is drew Barrymore's dad right? He was a pretty good actor at that time. Corny story but great acting! Thanks 1:13:25 1:13:25
Our neighbor's daughter, was a bit older, but he had a similar trauma. She was home alone, when burglars broke in. She froze, didn't do anything and she still is at that same condition, 6 years now. They took her to all the doctors in the country, as also in different countries, nothing changed though. I gave her a drawing set that I personaly built up. I got her all the best pencils, best paper and best erasers. She has done a drawing for me, that her parents gave to me. I would give my arm, to hear her speak again. Merry Christmas tto you all, let's hope Santa brings her her voice back and it doesn't matter if it's Christmas or the most boring day of the year..God bless you all!
Thank you - another enjoyable film! While watching, I found that Philip Carey had a certain familiarity to him that I couldn't quite place (somewhat resembled Charlton Heston). I now see that he played Asa Buchanan on One Live to Live! No wonder he looked familiar. In this film, Carey, Betty Garrett and John Drew Barrymore all did a nice job.

The woman, Linda, Petey's mom, was Irene McNabb on "All in the family" She and Archie despised each other on the show. She knocks on Archie's door, he answers. She wants Archie to look over a petition she is trying to get signatures on. "Oh,ahh...say Irene...what was that song by Irving Berlin with your name in it?" She looks puzzled, replies "Goodnight Irene?" He quickly snaps back "That's the one" and slams the door in her face!

John Trotter And he’s right - you’d have to be an especially slow witted three-toed sloth to appreciate the comic book superhero garbage and insipid attempted comedies they churn out today.

I was always amazed, coming from New York, where film is kind of a revered art form, especially the great noir films of the 40's and 50's and the great musicals of the 30's.... to arrive in the UK years ago, and nobody would watch a black and white film. They thought it was 'old' if it wasn't in color. Missing the point and completely ignorant of the art form.
This is a strong movie. Asa Buchanan is really good and handsome in this film. If you're sensitive to violence and threats of violence against women, don't watch this. It's pretty strong in that area.
Like all people who were in the entertainment industry at that time, they actually had talent.... Could usally sing, dance, play a musical instrument as well as act. Not like today, their talent lies in who can wear the skimpiest outfit on stage, or how outrageous they can be on a reality show.
This is a good one. Thankfully in good condition. Suspense drove me crazy, but that's what it was written to do. enjoyed the whole production and acting Thanks so much. I wan
Great movie but does anyone else I'm sure I am not the only one the Seas the hole in it where you wouldn't just drop a kid off like that pass them along to some other people the cops would want to know exactly where you picked him up and that would be important. I'm sure other people thought of this I just had to say it

I went to the Odeon and Capital theatres in Victoria BC Canada. Saturday mornings you could get in with 5 campbell soup labels and 15 cents!

These period pieces are terrific.
It's a rainy Saturday in Portland, Oregon. The brandy is poured, cheese and fruit cut. The only thing missing is a good old movie.
Ah, here you are. 😏
@zzmoore Watching Portland burn down by antifa | BLM
@zzmoore 75 years later in reality. Absolutely fantastic - riveting from start to finish!
Good old Isac from One Life to Live soap
@High Plains Drafter I'm dirt poor, but hey, judge me if you're perfect, your highness karen...
It's always raining in Portland. I lived in Vancouver there most of my life.

@xmaseveeve Jerry Mathers was a transgender? I don't think so. Not in 1957.
The bad guys+the good guys cops+the chase+the tension between the bad guys+the sentimental cop+the happy ending, all well packed.

When that WB logo flashed on the screen with Bugs Bunny in the middle, it made the hair stand up on your head. Or even better - Popeye!!! He always got the loudest cheers from the kids.

Nothing is as sad as a scared Beaver.
I think a lot of general police work goes along just like this. I recall reading crime mysteries...the Shell Scott and Perry Mason books, many others too. I liked this.
Yet they never thought to start where boy was picked up by truckers, and work their way back down the highway. Or did they? I haven't watched it all yet.
that ending brought me to tears when Beaver ran to his mama after thinking she was dead.

There is a 1946 movie about Charles Ulm and Kingsford Smith who were the first fliers to fly from the U.S.A. and Australia
God bless for Juan in Brisbane Australia.
The Australian movie "The Proposition" was a great movie.
Great to see these old fashioned films.Thank you
This is a worth while movie, and unlike a lot of these old movies on UA-cam, the video quality is very good.

Betty Garrett was a very successful actress of the 40's, playing musical comedy mostly....one of my favorites is "On the town", when she co-starred with Frank Sinatra, Ann Miller and Gene Kelly.
Excellent actress. Loved her on archie' bunker. Her character always came out on top with archie.
She's beautiful!
What a great find! Thank you!.
Really enjoyed every moment. Very realistic. Great music. Thanks.

I loved this. Very well executed film.
Amazing Classic :)
Went to the ABC in Mansfield, Notts, England in the early 70's. Fantastic!

🤩
I think she was also on "Laverne & Shirley". She played the girlfriend of Laverne's father. I THINK. Yep! I checked. I was right. Ten points for me!
When she was on All in the Family her voice had deepened some.

This movie is really good. Wish movies nowadays were half as good.
Thank you so much I love black and white films 🎥
This is a strong movie. Asa Buchanan is really good and handsome in this film. If you're sensitive to violence and threats of violence against women, don't watch this. It's pretty strong in that area.
Always liked Betty Garrett. Good actress, could sing, tap dance, solid at comedy and drama. Pretty good flick.
Like all people who were in the entertainment industry at that time, they actually had talent.... Could usally sing, dance, play a musical instrument as well as act. Not like today, their talent lies in who can wear the skimpiest outfit on stage, or how outrageous they can be on a reality show.
They took Jess alive. Nowadays, the cops would have Swiss-cheesed him.
You gotta love that 50's jazz
