Parents who are overprotective and place all their anxiety on their children create kids who either cannot thrive on their own or kids who rebel against their parents and go no-contact. It’s so frustrating to see someone manifest their own anxiety, trauma, and mental instability onto their children, especially when that child is put on a pedestal as their parent’s “saving grace”. No, YOU as the adult are responsible for your own well-being. It is not your child’s job to save you.

I have an aunt that was like this, and her two sons didn’t talk to anyone other than their parents and each other until high school. Literally no one except their parents and each other. At family gatherings you could directly address them and they would just look at you.

Kristi literally had a breakdown once over the thought of Alder moving out when he grows up. He also sleeps in the bed with her while her husband sleeps on a separate mattress in their bedroom. I always got the vibe that Zach is really passive and probably just goes along with whatever Kristi wants because of her health issues (body and mind). But I find it hard to believe that Zach is on board with his child being taught to be totally enmeshed with his mother, he needs to grow a damn spine for the sake of Alder’s mental health. I feel for that kid because he’s either going to develop so much anxiety and not know how to function independently or he’s going to escape the second he turns 18 which tbh, I hope he does if Kristi doesn’t let up.
That poor kid will suffer some major mental issues

This! They are different versions (and intensities) of the same type of thinking - a desire for some secret knowledge that nobody else is privy to, that sets _them_ apart from the rest of us. And they're so dedicated to chasing this *feeling* that they will warp reality to confirm their -opinions- feelings.
ETA - This is why it's important to be wary of any type of pseudoscience or magical thinking. Some of it is all fun and games, but if you lose sight of critical thinking and the scientific method, you are very prone to falling down the pseudoscience/conspiracy theory rabbit hole.

I had to unsubscribe after so many years after Kristi continually made disparaging comments about anti-depressants and medical interventions for mental health. It felt so fear-mongering, and I love my SSRI’s.
I'm on Zoloft and Wellbutrin so I feel you !
That’s when I started to feel icky about her too. Without my SSRI’s I don’t know what my life would look like. I was barely a functioning person before them.
I just got diagnosed with ADHD, today is the first day of my life that my mind isn’t nonstop chatter and going in 20 different directions. This is the first time I’ve had real hope on being a much more functional person.
Disparaging mental health is just trashy.
RIGHT?!?! So wild to be against something that helps so many people just because you weren’t able to find the correct medication that worked for you. Personally I didn’t enjoy being on Prozac (SSRI), it just didn’t work for ME. So I worked with my doctor and we realized Wellbutrin (NDRI) works great for ME. I can’t imagine spreading misinformation about SSRI’s just because the one I tried didn’t work for me personally.

She seems to have really struggled ever since she had her baby. It's been really hard to watch her make decisions which only seem to have worsened her mental health.
But she says her kid is so well behaved and she never has to yell at them until recently. So I don’t get it. Loads of videos where she says motherhood is so hard and draining and others on instagram where she says if you raise your voice at your child you’re boarding an abusive parent and nothing a child does should warrant yelling. She really pushed the gentle parent until she finally retracted it. Still she shamed a lot of moms.
It's also worth remembering that her birth was really difficult (it really did seem for a moment like her baby wasn't going to make it), which I'm sure has compounded her medical anxiety.

The anti vac has always been wild to me, it started with a scientist writing a paper with a hypothesis in a journal, a news outlet ran a story and people ran with it as fact, then when covid hit it got even worse.
And that scientist lost his credentials if I remember correctly for his incredibly flawed study about the topic.
there's still debate obviously all vaccines aren't bad but I do feel we've become over vaccinated in this country. But I believe everyone is entitled to their own opinions in the matter

Some people can't accept that they're genes created sick children so they blame vaccines. You better check the food and food is fortificated with unnecessary amount of vitamins. Plus you're getting told to use more. Sure it's so good for our health.

I started to get a weird feeling about Kristi around the time she had her son. Honestly, her birth video made me super uncomfortable. She was so adamant about having her son at the birthing center and it felt like she was resistant to medical intervention until she absolutely had to go to the hospital to give birth. When she said that she was in labor for over 40 hours, I just couldn’t understand why she would want to suffer so long and it felt, to me, like she prioritized her birth plan over giving birth safely. I’ve had two children and my birth plan was always “whatever gets baby here safely” because I know things happen and you have to pivot.
Yep. And then I felt she really milked it as some sort of near death experience for baby when he wasn't even ever in the NICU.
So many people I know are like this. :(

The PLAN she projected onto the entire situations was more important than the SAFETY. She whined and complained ad nauseam about almost disregarding the part where her son was actually healthy. It was so enraging that she acted that way.

I can tell you, as someone who grew up in a family who was really woowoo like that, it’s SO COMMON. They are told their entire pregnancy that the hospital is full of disease, the doctors are malicious and out to hurt them and the baby on purpose, etc. they would rather suffer and even suffer complications than go to the hospital. I watched my mom try to force a home birth with complications three times before giving up on it.
RBK’s history really is wild. Her lack of ability to take accountability for literally ANYTHING, the anti-vax and anti-medicine/doctor rhetoric, and her lying to save face.
I used to really like her and that caused me to ignore those little red flags. The final straw was her lying about not knowing about James Charles and still supporting him.
What really upsets me about this whole thing about Kristi is that we truly never did know her. The way she presented herself vs how she is now is so wildly different. Never expected it and really enjoyed her videos but now she can’t not discuss her beliefs in her videos, even if the video is only supposed to be makeup.

I’ve suffered with horrible depression and anxiety since my early teens… I’ve been in therapy and done everything you can think of to “heal” myself. You know what finally helped me… meds, all the meds. Now I live an almost normal life and I’m not embarrassed about it! Nothing wrong with medicine that’s meant to help you live a normal, functional life!

I have suffered with anxiety since my teen years also. I had postpartum psychosis after my 3rd child was born… didn’t sleep one minute for 7 days. I was suicidal to say the least, had to ask my husband if I should use the bathroom or take a shower. The antipsychotic medication saved me! I was in treatment at a psychiatric facility for a while until I was stable but it still took a year to feel “normal”. I still take medication and I’m proud I survived!
But RBK is also on meds and has spoken about it

I am so disappointed in kristi. Im a christian too and I've been a big ally to the lgbtq+ community. So the people excusing it being because shes religious when thats not an excuse honestly. Its bad enough to just be tolerant of lgbtq+ people but even worse and even more of non excuse to be actively hateful of them. Everyone is welcome to have religion or non religion as long as its not harmful. But this that shes doing is harmful and people have a right to be upset by it. I just cannot. I have not followed her since i found out she was supporting james charles when i realized she wouldnt ever respond. I hope she realizes where what shes doing is wrong
I hope more people read your comment because I feel it so deeply and want others to understand. I’m also a Christian and one of my very best friends is in the lgbtq+ community. It’s not my job to tell her what/how to live just like it isn’t hers mine. I love her so much and all I want is for her to be happy. My personal relationship with God has to do with her.
I'm a religious individual, but not Christian and rather Jewish. Whenever I see people a part of my religion say hateful things and cite our religious texts, it makes me mad. Sentiments like these are why people don't like religious people, and I can't even blame people who leave because they see this and nope out.
I'm glad that Christians are speaking out against her behaviors and ideas. I like the phrase "it's not your fault but it's your responsibility" when it comes to this. The more of all religions speak out against bad religious people, the more I believe it will have to dissolve and stop being bad. We will only have good.

Just like us straight people cannot help ours. Like do people think someone would sign up for the amount of hatred people send to LGBTQ+ people? Do they think they would sign up for being hate crimed? I don't think so. Also the bible teaches us to love everyone. Being like that is the exact opposite
I’m a Christian and my son is gay… and I love him exactly as I did the day he was born. I get along with everyone. I disagree on how we help people with gender dysphoria… particularly children. And I believe gender identity and s3xual orientation are NOT the same thing and shouldn’t be considered as such.
You also won’t be bringing people to Christ with hateful rhetoric. I’m no longer religious after being a Christian Baptist for over 20years. Part of that was due to the constant rejection by those that I thought cared about me, but used religion to judge/condemn me. I’m bisexual and what I considered my church didn’t even let me become an official member due to my sexuality. That was one of the most painful rejections and so embarrassing. It hardens people to God when they are constantly hurt by “His people”

Just know, there are those of us who homeschool who aren’t religious. I homeschool and I’m queer, Black, neurodiverse, nonreligious, and pro science. My kids will be getting a full, well-rounded education, and they’re vaccinated. There are many reasons why people choose to homeschool so, for the folx in the comments, please don’t use this as a reason to demonize homeschooling. That being said, thank you, Chelsea, for bringing this to light! I have followed Kristi for a long time, and this is REALLY disappointing and sad.

1. Chelsea is Christian.
2. Remember the phrase "if the shoe fits"
3. Any religious sect is subject to criticism. Of any religion.
4. You should not be defending people just because YOU are triggered by criticisms of religion. This leads to defending horrible people without realizing it. If you're a real Christian, these are NOT your people. We are therefore not criticising YOU.
5. You nor Kristi are victims of religious persecution because of this video.
6. Echochambers are dangerous and lead to death, trauma, and disturbing events. Even if you agree with what one is saying, do not join it! You will be consumed. They are a black hole of cultiness.
7. If you are triggered by any of the above, you may be a part of an echochamber. Its easy to fall into one, especially due to the fact they prey on vulnerability. We are ALL vulnerable in certain aspects of our lives.

I had to unsubscribe from her a while ago. It got to the point where she never seemed happy and I couldn't watch that anymore.
I unfollowed after the James Charles stuff but it was interesting after the fact how I saw she was literally playing both sides of every situation to try and benefit her career. Namely the people she would support who were not good representations of certain communities because it's good for networking and views but also playing to the other side and speaking out against stuff that those same people had a part in or doing those things herself. Very wild how she thought that could work long term
Yes. She says a lot but also doesn't say anything when asked about her beliefs, which is super telling. But her beliefs have gotten revealed in little glimpses in spite of this. It's finally caught up to her.

We’re going through something similar with a family member. They’ve gone so deep down the fundie/QAnon rabbit hole, we’re not sure we can ever pull them out. It’s rough.
My mom did this. Things started getting weird in 2017, she had a framed “Q” in her home, started eating up all night on the computer “researching.” She left my dad at the end of 2022 because he didn’t belief her “prophesies,” threw away everything she owned, started engaging in some really scary decision making. I had to set up boundaries because I don’t even consider her a safe person to have around my kids. I know some of it is mental illness, and she was always fundy-lite, but she latched onto the Q stuff and it went off the rails.

Not sure where you got, “anti-medicine.” But it seems like anytime people speak out and go alternate ways, they are instantly labeled. The medical system in US has phenomenal lifesaving technologies, but it is beyond broken and flawed. This is coming from someone who has worked in US medicine for many years.

It’s incredibly easy to fall down the rabbit hole of fear-mongering conspiracies when you’re responsible for a tiny human, especially if you’re chronically online without a real-world social network to tether you to what’s actually happening outside. They say it takes a village to raise a child, but it also takes a village to keep parents from deciding their kid needs to be homeschooled because the kid might encounter Other People with Other Ideas if they leave the house. 😬
Pregnancy can be really hard on people physically and mentally. Not saying that would happen to you! It’s just good for people to be aware of their own needs and to keep checking in with themselves mentally.
From what I’ve seen (I have 2 kids and know lots of moms) having support is key. My own family of origin isn’t in the picture much so for me it was more about my friend support network. When I felt the baby blues, or had a question I didn’t know the answer to, or just needed a break-I had someone to call.
It takes a little more effort to have that post-baby but the alternative is becoming isolated. And isolation can really exacerbate things.
Having people around you to keep you in reality is a must, just make sure they do it with kindness and real compassion for you, not just because they love correcting people.

That’s funny hearing you mention the small groups of parents getting together to pay for a tutor/teacher during the ‘Vid. I was one of those hired tutors lol. I had just graduated with my teaching degree when everything shut down and went online. It was actually pretty fun to just spend the day with 5 students at one of their houses and give them the individual help they needed and look after them.
Lots of parents I know did that. I def would have done that too

That way we all would be able to still work and our kids wouldn’t fall behind. And it wouldn’t be lonely for them too. Just school nothing weird mixed in. Lol

I’m so glad you shared this! I watched her for years and stopped after James Charles support too but saw she had an update about her cluster headaches and they found treatment for her but she DIDN’T do it because it MIGHT have side effects. I realized she didn’t want to be healed.
I unfollowed when she had her baby. I’ve done that with a lot of creators because the shift to baby-mommy content is almost inevitable. Chelsea is one of the few exceptions that didn’t go that way. It’s no shade, that kind of content makes bank and a lot of people enjoy it. I just don’t.
So, the whole reason Kristi and Zak bought that property is because they're building a "homestead."

I’ve not seen the wallpaper video so idk how that all went down. My husband is OSHA certified in lead removal. I asked about this: his answer, without seeing video or having the full context: lead can be removed efficiently but it is a lot of work and expensive. Trained professionals wear hazmat suits while removing it, tape off rooms with plastic to trap the lead dust etc. All tarps etc are wrapped in plastic and disposed of. If she didn’t follow these procedures, she actually released the lead when she took the wallpaper off and it likely spread through the house. Wallpaper itself doesn’t usually have lead, it’s the glue. So it was encapsulated until she took it off the wall.
It was brand new peel and stick wallpaper. She was concerned about the smell. Possible VOC off-gassing. Not lead.

I had the same experience. Her posts about PPD and demonizing mental health meds were really difficult to see. I don’t like speculating on anyone’s mental health, but I can imagine that many people who gave birth during the pandemmy and didn’t have great access to treatment for PPD have some lasting consequences.

I remember sitting in my living room and crying when RBK shared her announcement video. I had a feeling and I literally cried happy tears because I was so happy for her and her husband. I even watched the new mom content to support her (while waiting for beauty content to come back) even though I’m not having children. I started getting the ick when she “rescued” a dog and posted about him nonstop being part of their lives and part of the family because they’re cat people but this dog is amazing and so sweet, and then she claimed the dog got weird around her kid and suddenly he’s gone. I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt like “oh, I’m sure that was painful to rehome him, if the baby was unsafe then she did her best for him” but this dog just slipped off the face of the earth. No updates, no acknowledgments. Then she completely fumbled the MLM video by trying to be on everyone’s side. And now this? She’s friends with men in makeup, does she realize that the people she seems to be aligned with want to eradicate that freedom? Unless she’s only “friends” with them for clout?

I unsubbed prior to James Charles because of her racism. Soooo many people keep overlooking her geisha makeup with the followup "lol u mad?" Sombrero and mustache costume to fake being Mexican. It sucked to find out about and then I dropped her. White influencers have their racism overlooked for years and years and then people get surprised when they turn out to think other terrible things.

If you’re not familiar with the concept of homesteader/alternative medicine to alt right pipeline, there are a lot of articles and reputable podcasts dealing with it. That might make things more clear.

I am also a dem socialist and I love when I can civilly converse with someone who has different policy ideals. Not civil rights, but things like government spending, economics issues etc. I will still disagree with a lot of that but when a republican can focus on actual issues rather than just being hateful is rare these days.

I was homeschooled, first by my grandma, and then in a large scale online charter school. I got a full, proper education with real teachers giving us real homework and tests using real books. It was strictly because my parents didn’t trust the private school I went to for a year or 2 to treat me correctly (cuz I’m mixed black and we’re all pretty sure one of my teachers was actively failing me for nothing). It’s not hard to not be weird about home schooling, but these people always find a way to politicize it in the worst ways

Lack of trust in medicine and science and deciding to homeschool your kids are both really dangerous and lead to extremely wide reaching societal issues. And she has a platform where she could easily spread that misinformation which is really scary.

This is when I actively stopped watching too. Things were slipping but that’s when I knew there was something deeper. Though I am technically still subscribed. Holding out hope to maybe see some sort change but the titles just scream weird still.

I unsubbed after her baby bc I couldn't take the whining. I had PPD too and breast cancer at the same time with a newborn and a 16 month old. I had a bilateral mastectomy, chemo, and total hysterectomy and couldn'thold my children. I just couldn't stand hearing her.

@auggiedoggiesmommy1734 We all def have struggles! It was so very difficult. I have a photo with myself and my babies that was unplanned bc I didn't feel like I was going to live through the day. I was bald, swollen, and struggling to breath but I needed them to have a photo of us together.
That day, I was rushed in for an emergency blood transfusion.
I look at that picture and you can see how sick I was.
I'm very thankful to be here. To have had the help I did have. Grateful to have raised my sons.
I don't want to take away from RBKs struggle but sheesh. There are people who have it far worse and it just felt like everything was so major, she has it the worst, no one has it as bad as she does, her life is terrible, etc.

I live about an hour from seattle in a retirement/republican area, and man it just makes my pan heart sad that RBK took this route. I know theres lots of strong opinions in more secluded areas, and its probably easy for someone to fall into it when theyre surrounded by it, but my God RBK went from being besties with Manny MUA, to surrounding herself with homophobes. Im super disappointed in her, but i hadnt really kept up with her during her pregnancy because ive had my own trauma with losing my only pregnancy, then having to get a total hysterectomy at 25 because of it. Im also disabled from chronic conditions, and cannot adopt. So when she started doing everything pregnancy related, i stopped watching. When she moved out to where she is, i did wonder if her personality was gonna change, but i didnt expect this. Its just disappointing.
This is exactly what happened with my brother. He used to be cool and low-key progressive. Then he moved to rural Idaho and married a woman with religious adult children, and now he's suddenly hardcore MAGA and spouting religious sayings, and has blocked almost our entire family for several years. It's truly bizarre. There's also a possibility that he is suffering from the effects of old TBI's, having served in the military. Idk, but it sucks losing someone you care about for no apparent reason. Even if he were to let me back into his life, it doesn't seem like he'd be the brother I once knew.
