Also TSU When you don't have a rivalry with another band, there is absolutely no need to go after them and play their theme song. The Crowd probably never seen Norfolk State and they did not know that you were playing their theme song 🤦‍♀️. This is the kind of thing that separates your band from great bands that have well thought out halftime shows

Well I seem to agree with your reactions normally but this is wayyyy off. One band truly out played, out marched and was more musical than the other. Bad Gimmicks, crooked lines, poor marching and poor showmanship is what set these two programs apart. Bands tend to resort to gimmicks to get the crowd all of which was null and void in this show. There’s no rivalry so why go to such lengths to waste time with that poor attempt to play another bands theme song when you could’ve used that time to work on correcting those crooked lines, poor marching, cleaning up the music, and teaching the drum section how to play correctly and not sound like a 16 wheeler turning over on the interstate. Hats off to both programs but let’s be honest and view this the way musicians should🤷🏾‍♂️

Steven is usually on point and he made some good points in his review. But I think when it comes to Tenn State, he should recuse himself.

We all know you are a Tennessee State grad, I know it was hard for you to score the halftime show even. I know deep down you couldn't say NorforkState was better on this day. I will say it for you, Norfolk State was better in this battle.

Your score was good except the percussion. NSU 20/TSU 15-18, TSU sound loud like your BIO say, "Loud is not better". I mean they sound good as a whole with the band, but NSU sounds like a set, you can hear each piece. Especially NSU base line vs TSU Bass =Bang, bang, bang (crunk). Good homecoming performance like you said, I'm just a fan.

Both bands sound good. Both bands had clean presentations. I was surprised to see the big dancers for TnSU, because they didn't appear to do those types of features in the past. Norfolk keeps a primary focus of having their sound facing the press box. So, it was an adjustment to watch/listen to TnSU, who moves in patterns that for the most part doesn't keep the band facing one direction. But, they still sounded good.
Kudos for Norfolk for traveling to TnSU. The Band World is starting to become anemic to top quality bands performing against each other, as opposed to going to Stand Battles to merely BLOW/BLAST against each other. Thus, the art of band is dropping. So, thanks for contributing to the value of quality bands facing one another by traveling to Nashville for TnSU's Homecoming.

It doesn’t matter what Tenn state does on the field or in the stands…something about them is just bland lol the only thing impressive is the numbers they keep. But I appreciate the scoring as well and get your pov in regards to Norfolks field show designs

I was there for that show. And much as I love Norfolk, this was not the Norfolk they I know. They were quiet safe and quite dull.

When it comes to drills, Tennessee State has this one. The star drill as well as the arrow. It's what precision drilling is all about. Members cover the entire field. Degree of difficulty "8"
Norfolk played some very nice songs as usual, but the drill is just a boring design. Hardly any movement and zero precision drilling. Members only cover a small portion of the field. Degree of difficulty "3" Dance routine and flags made up for it as well as the drum line.

Its called playing to the box something more bands should consider. I bet you in the next few years you will see more bands emulate it..trust me.

Nsu does curvilinear drills, not recycled precision drills that every other band and they momma do. Ok your drill difficulty you think is 8 even though every band do them...good for yall. Lol...yet still got beat on that field

@@Askanison29 Acually more bands are not imitating this bugle corp style. It's a lazy style. Takes no stamina, athleticism or respiratory force to do. Your members hardly covers a 10 yard diameter throughout the entire drill. A Jr High School band can literally do your drills. I have challenged Legion2004 to a post for post of these 2 bands doing field show drills past and present. I have already posted my 1st drill. Waiting on him to post one. Then I'll go again. We will do this until you have nothing but drills that are the same. So see that thread under this same video and maybe participate. Let's go!

@@Askanison29Is the box the visitors side too? What about the endzone?
How about just doing a precision drill that the entire stadium can enjoy?

I marched for NSU during the Sanford era and I will say this the drill fits the music perfectly. NSU doesn't need to cover the entire field like other schools do with horns facing the endzones. We played some demanding material However @@michaelgraves7718

Now I'm Totally Convinced Everybody Really Wants To Be Just Like DA JUKE STYLE AND ALL ITS SIMPLY PLAIN TO SEE I N BOTH THESE SHOWS.. MAN KEEP G /100... EVERYONE LOVES DA JUKEBOX 🐆💙💛💙🐆🎵🎶‼️💪🏾💯

Now I'm totally convinced that there is absolutely nothing in Norfolk State show that resembles anything that DA JUKE does. Oh wait, it must be the flag routine. Oh never mind it must be them keeping the horns totally to the press box the whole show. Could it be them doing the dance routine with the horns not on the ground? Perhaps it was the percussion section actually playing rudiments in their songs. Oh it must be you thinking that bands doing dance routines from one side to the next is an SU thing when the Legion has been doing some form of that over the past 30 or so years. Oh I got it, it must be absolutely nothing and juke cult members love to insert themselves into something that has absolutely nothing to do with them.

Norfolk is a bugle corp style HBCU band. If it weren't for the R & B plus rap songs and dance, you wouldn't be able to tell them from most PWI bands.
They do absolutely no precision drills. March to a spot in a design, turn to the stands, lift your legs and blow. Degree of difficulty is jr high school level.
The Human Jukebox covers the entire field all while high stepping the entire drill with the iconic whip turn. Patterns in motion instead of standing still. Degree of difficulty always high.
Yes NSU'S flags (PWI) looks nice. The 1 design with little to no movement is nice when standing in place to play a tune. Learn to do some patterns in motion and precision drills. Let these young people march the entire field for once. Then we'll see how that sound holds up and how high the knees are.

@@cinemuh so that's why they were named HBCU band of the year by ESPNs/Undefeated in 2021 (the same org that's doing the HBCU Band of the year in Atlanta in Dec), HBCU band of the year in 2022 by HBCU Sports AND HBCU Buzz. Was named as having the #1 and #3 halftime shows of the year by HBCU Sports in 2022 and so far this season was named as having the top halftime show of the week twice. Also was one of the few bands, HBCU or PWI to be personally asked by the tournament roses parade committee to stop the parade at the grandstand and do a performance. And if anybody knows anything about the parade they very very rarely stop the parade not even for Southern who also did the parade few years ago. They got less than 1 minute of TV time when the Legion got 10 minutes.
You don't have to like the drills, that's fine But at the end of the day no social media is going to shape who this band is. The focus is on making sure the audience hears the arrangements and not playing toward the end zone like your band does on a consistent basis. Because we all know that most of the audience is sitting in the end zone 🥴Watching Southern's Band at the bayou Classic on NBC and couldn't even hear the band arrangements because they were playing toward the end zone and away from NBC microphones. And the announcer was talking over and rapping over the whole show.. And please don't get us started with the numerous amount of gimmicks ie white boys dancing, Fat Boys dancing, lions tigers and bears and putting the horns on the ground.
Yeah we can tell you just held the ladder while you were in the band
You'd 💩 in your pants if you tried to play a Paul Adams arrangement, who by the way was an SU grad wrote the bands theme song Behold and worked at the school that's a "drum and bugle CORPS" according to you so in essence it was SU grads who helped shaped the Legion. So if you don't like what the Legion does then blame your graduates. In the meantime they will keep doing what they do whether you like it or not. Sorry.
