Mary & Reina I stumbled upon you guys and find myself looking for you more often. I find it very refreshing to see young song writer musicians pouring their soul and talent into their careers. Please keep up posting more & more Vid's. I'm an elder (75) playing my guitars and singing in my home watching and enjoying you guys keep it up THANKS
Been watching your channel for months...not sure why it took til today to sub. I recently bought the best "cheap" guitar I've ever owned because of you...the Orangewood. No Gibby or Martin ever gave me more joy than my Morgan and I have you to thank. Best of luck....you have a great channel. Continue to trail blaze! Fan from WV-USA.
I did sound for Reina del Cid back in 2019 in philly. Absolutely loved them and their music. Such an awesome group and really wonderful people! So awesome to see you do an interview with them
There is something really special about hearing a composer’s music in the places it was originally played. We got to see Vivaldi played in Venice and it was just amazing. Germany is on the list when we finally get to wander the world again!
That was fun! I've been playing guitar for decades, but am not a musician, so it's interesting (to me) to listen to real musicians talk, and women just have a different "tone" when talking about music than most men do.
I am so happy when I watch a video by either of you. Mary, I was so excited this morning to wake up to 6 inches of snow. It was the most precipitation we've had in 5 months. I live in a high desert and we are in the midst of an extended drought, so every inch of snow counts for water to drink next July and August. Keep up the good work and I look forward to being able to see both of you live. I'll buy you both a beer, and Toni too!
Nothing wrong with that I hope you two had a goodtime togeather? The best part about talking about something you both enjoy. You can feed on each other makes for a wonderful event and evening.
Mambos Combo....i used to watch them all the time in Mpls by the Lake Calhoun Street fests. I like listening to these kinds of musicians talk about music. Keep it up...pop music is dead and doesn't know it.
Oh, cool...an interview with Reina Del Cid...and a she dropped a video on her channel too (which I also subscribe to). So...cool. Another great video. Thanks.
Keep at it. Take it slow. The biggest problem at the beginning is the finger pain until the callouses grow. I've been playing for 50+ years but wanted to learn new things so I started poking around the internet for teachers who explains things well. So far, my favorite has been JustinGuitar.com. Justin explains things really well. Cheers.
Also, learn like a child - your goal is to get good at the song you're working on now. Forget the big goal. Measure yourself by how far you've come, not by how far you still have to go.
Hello, Mary! Today's instrument was the keyboard... The charts are overrated -- I much prefer indie artists. And you're right, no one can take that away from you. :) Good interview, thanks for sharing it again!
Yes, Minneapolis is the bomb for music, Prince, Underground, Anything. When there is no Covid, Lyle & I, my co-conspirator in creative crimes foisted upon the world of music, perform at the Warming House. An underground womb experience for new writers of music and lyric. A support group for the nacent singer/songrwriter/artist and those needing encouragement and supportive feedback. "First, do no harm." Minneapolis is rich, and I was raised in San Francisco, a capitol of wealth in creative endeavor. Reina del Cid, thank you! I do believe music would save the world.
Hi Mary! May I make a song request....? It's a cover, so maybe that doesn't work out for the channel, however, Send in the Clowns would be beautiful for you (and us)!
I think people who truly like music only criticize when something is so close to being good that it is hard to keep quiet. When something is really terrible it just seems too obvious to mention.
Mary, I noticed a new Martin SC-13E behind you in the intro to the video. With COVID here in CA., I have yet to see/play one in person. What do you think of its sound and playability?
It seems to me that writing music to suit what's popular is like writing to the lowest common denominator. I may be wrong, and that's OK with me, but that's just my opinion.
Yeah, she popped up the other day, so it was expected. Tell her hello. This is from your random number *Psalm 119 KJV* *PE* Thy testimonies are wonderful: therefore doth my soul keep them. The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple. I opened my mouth, and panted: for I longed for thy commandments. Look thou upon me, and be merciful unto me, as thou usest to do unto those that love thy name. Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me. Deliver me from the oppression of man: so will I keep thy precepts. Make thy face to shine upon thy servant; and teach me thy statutes. Rivers of waters run down mine eyes, because they keep not thy law.
Semantics matter. Do not 'write for' anything. 'Address' what you want others to understand. Do not isolate your endeavour. How you are transformed by your circumstance (included with others) is what you are 'addressing'. The thing is the thing.
If you want honest, heartfelt songwriting you can't do better than Brandy Clark. If you haven't already you should listen to her NPR Tiny Desk concert from Sept 2020. www.npr.org/2020/09/24/916120052/brandy-clark-tiny-desk-home-concert Although she leans towards country style I think you'll recognize the percussive, back-of-the-fingernail strum on the 2/4 beats, but mostly I think you'll identify with her lyrics, which may raise a bit of a lump in your throat while you consider whether to cover a song or two.
“That Family member or friend who says that’s not going to be a hit, what do they know. Have they written anything, do they know what would be a hit” Idk Mary I have to disagree with that. The milkman , postal worker, that farmer living 100 miles away from everyone, that cousin who works in retail all those everyday people are the ones who make the stars and who know the hits.they’re the ones who decide whether a band will play a small local club or a stadium. If artists knew what makes a number one then every musician would be having a number 1 all the time. A reporter once asked the Beatles what was it about their music that people loved, why did it excite them so much to which Paul said “we don’t know really” and john said “if we knew we’d form another group and be managers”. Truth be told musicians don’t know what makes a number one as trends come and go like the flow of the ocean waters, musicians can only write what’s in them and be original which is what you said and it’s very true. Every now and then those songs hit a nerve with people and then they become hits.
If you only write for yourself, then you are lucky if you become a big seller. No one wants to be a starving artist writing poetry in a garret. But if you write pop to be popular your music will tend to be uninspiring. No one likes a sell-out, either. There is a balance between these two, of course. You need to be inspired by your own private muse, but you also have to have an eye to what will sell. Either extreme will tend not to work. The marketing people call this being market-oriented, and the engineers and artists will be "product oriented." Apple is successful by being both market and product oriented. Find that part of your uniqueness that people seem to want to buy. Bring that to your music and the world is your oyster.
I feel kinda scared of the music scene because what I play and what I write are not sounds that are remotely popular. I hope that my work makes the cut.
That's the joy of the new music industry. Create the music you want to create and get it out there and over time fans will find you. There's no record company trying to force you into a marketable box.
Unfortunately people do not care about their BS-meter. They simply listen to pop songs written by two dozen songwriters and producers with autotune and hi hat clicks that sound like cicadas (thank you, Rick Beato) and they just don't care.
Do you geniuses think Max Martin is writing from his soul, expressing the core of who he is, and now no one can copy him? UA-cam personalities are becoming more and more insular with very little originality. Cross-polinating UA-cam channels, all in an attempt to garner views but producing nothing of particular value in the end.
Find the full interview in Mary's uploads. Reina explains the origin of the name. (Hint: it's not her real name.) Edit: I found it for you. ua-cam.com/video/pLZolnWvhHc/v-deo.html
So fun catching up with you again, Mary! And YES to those beers in person soon. I was pretty jealous of your Sierra Nevada. :)
You guys are very talented guitar players
Great conversation, beautiful message!! Love it!

You're almost there Mary, the month is almost over, this is an amazing journey, thank you for taking us on it with you😌
Idea for video: your work out habits and its effect on your creative singing songwriting life.

Two wonderfully talented Women !
Waking up to snow was such an amazing feeling
It's snowing everywhere in Scotland except for where I live! Snap!

Music, when it comes from the soul, has a whole different vibe. Very few so called artists understand.
Two wonderful people 💕

Excellent !!Cheers!!;-)!
8:00 it's so funky, and it's low volume...
Kuala Lumpur is indeed a very cool city to visit. Can’t say I got to experience any music scene there though. But the food is amazing!
Finding Reina on UA-cam encouraged me to take up guitar. It’s going badly at the moment lol!

ALI G's adventures in wonderland. Had to double take the back shelf book then. oooh Alice.

I will follow you two forever! p.s. YT-wise. NOT a threat.
Strat, coffee, night creature - Scorpio? Married? LOL XD
Have you interviewed Toni as well?
You two have the same thumbnail... I just realized that.
Silly example maybe but "The Dark Side of The Moon" wasn't written with the plan of writing a "hit" album and well, we all know how that turned out.😉
LIKE for both of you
To get people to listen it’s a melody that makes you whistle hum. Play it again
Coolest two women together.
I don't seem to find your patrons of the day in the list at the end of your videos, why?

Nothing worse than, asking the UA-cam Video Creator a simple Question...
And getting a ZERO Answer. We are PEOPLE as well.

Charts are kinda fading with all you good musicians on UA-cam. No need for contracts anymore.
Any relation to Lana Del Rey??
Yeah, OK, but did you PASS her?

Wiki says born in Fargo, North Dakota.

She only sings other people’s work.......
Both Mary and Reina sing both their own original music and covers. They have done one cover together.
Tim Chalmers I did not say I that I don’t enjoy her spin I do. But I’ve seen little original work posted. Shame to the girls have a great sound.

You obviously haven't watched enough of Mary's videos.
Her own songs and playing style are pretty epic and unique.
I love Mary’s videos and original work ....... it’s Del Cids work I’ve not seen much I’ve seen her perform others and she has a good voice .
