    So jealous! I always loved seeding after a long winter preparing for it. I use water from the defrosting heat pump - almost as good as rainwater. Excellent work!

    Great videos! Thank you so much! Part of a 150 year old maple tree on my property fell in a wind storm the other day. Lots of seeds on this portion of the tree so I am going to try this! Thanks!

      I did make an update video for all seedlings this year. See the below link. Unfortunately the maples did not sprout that well this particular season.

    Thanks for the video! I planted a few sugar maple seeds less than 90 days ago and have 2 sprouts already! How long were those small pots good for? Should I go straight to big pots if they're already sprouted?

      I didn't mean planted, they're cold stratifying still :)

      I would start them in a tall thin pot 8-10” if possible. 1lt cream containers work well. Let them get established, move them into either larger pots or final home this fall. Early-mid September.
      By no means a pro at this, but so far this seems to work the best.

    How often do you have to water? up to 120 days or just wet once?

    Would Boxelder require the same process?

      Hi!
      Below are my notes on Box Elder. Please let us know how it goes !!
      Box elder
      - scar and soak seeds 24hrs
      - cold stratify 90 days
      - plant about 3/8 inch deep

      Alright I soaked them but didn't scar them and now in a container the same as you did here. My purpose for them is saposedly they are a preferred Deer Browse. I tried growing them once and I went straight from tree to pot with 100's of seed and only 3 sprouted.

    Heya, it's been a year since you posted this video - How did the maples turn out? Out of 30 seeds, how many survived, and how quickly are they growing, now being near a year later?

    • @HagonjonesHomestead
      @HagonjonesHomestead  3 роки тому +3

      Hey Joshua, 12 out of 30 sprouted. 10 went into the ground and 2 are very small in pots. Out of the 10 I planted, deer/goats took care of 8. Hard lesson learned, protect your trees.
