- They had these guys out for you to go take a look at out front of Kansas Speedway Friday during the ARCA race and Saturday during the Nationwide race. Sunday for the Sprint Cup, they were in the infield. One of the coolest things I've seen in a long time.
I had a close encounter with an AH-64 during training in Texas. All I have to say is, thank God that thing is on our side...!!

Air planes rotate .The process of accelerating from hover to forward flight has a different name that is specific to helicopters. It is actually called a 'transition'.

Now if there's one thing you can be sure of, it's that nothing is more powerful than a young boy's wish. Except an Apache helicopter. An Apache helicopter has machine guns AND missiles. It is an unbelievably impressive complement of weaponry, an absolute death machine.
While In transit to visit my son in Fayetteville we witnessed 30 plus Apaches taking off for an exercise from Ft.Bragg. Love the smell of napalm in the morning!

The AH-64 is A big heavy machine that normally doesn't pick-up straight off the ground. Great flying on the crew's part.

A friend of mine once told me that helicopters don't fly . They just beat the ground into submission .
That is 2 Apaches lifting off. Backhawk looks like a large tadpole sitting there. The Apache sitting on the left side has a Mast Mounted Sight on it.
the left apache was the AH-64 D Longbow! prior to the D model, the apache was always accompanied by an OH-58, the 58 would pop over the tree line to assess targets and relay to the info to the 64. When the Longbow D model came out the 58 was no longer needed. The Apache's can fire hellfires from over 5 miles away from the target!
Where was the Blackhawk you speak of?
That is the AN/APG-78 Fire Control Radar (FCR), not a Mast Mounted Sight (MMS). The OH-58D had the MMS above its rotor system
@@expfighter5112 Both the left and right Apache's were Delta Model Longbows. The AN/APG-78 Fire Control Radar (FCR) is not the defining characteristic of a Delta Model. In fact we frequently fly without the FCR installed to reduce weight, reduce drag, and improve performance in flight

At the time, the National Guard was sponsoring a race car, so they hall all sort of military equipment out for the fans to talk to and meet with some soldiers. For the demo, they landed them inside Kansas Speedway and parked them overnight, then took off as seen before the race started.
Yes.. yes of course that's exactly what happened. These guys who are smart and skilled enough to fly an Apache OBVIOUSLY think a nascar field was their base. Totally.

the flight training was already slated for the pilots only thing that changed was the destination and the opportunity to possibly inspire someone in the audience to become a pilot

I saw some doing laps above the Atlanta Motor Speedway in pre race festivities when the new track was first opened. I believe it was Jeff Gordons first race and Richard Petty’s last race. It was an awesome display.
