Go and find a Bluegrass jam near by, the old timers will help. watch em closely and copy what they do and get the tunes in your head. You'll be fine Good Luck and keep playing
Some great comments, enjoyed reading them. If you guys have any questions about the violin. (I Have had plenty in the last few months) I highly recommend checking out Michael Sanchez on UA-cam. He is a great Teacher and is able to teach both the violin and fiddle. He is a lot of fun to watch and learn from. All you have to do is go to Google and Search the Keyword : "Violin Tutor Pro" (Choose the first search result)
Wonderful ! In my studio, students learn the bow hold very quickly using the Bow Hold Buddies[tm] bow accessory. The accessory keeps the hand relaxed and fingers in place while we learn more music. Thanks!
It was written as "Angelina Baker" by Stephen Foster in the mid 19th century and played by well know traveling minstrels. It wasn't until the late 19th century that it began to be known by fiddlers as Angeline the Baker. The lyrics also evolved so that there are many different versions of the song as often happened with folk songs.
We just had this discussion at our jam last night and I'm researching it. Yes, this is Angeline The Baker. NOT Angelina Baker. They are very similar and it may have morphed from Stephen Foster's song but they are not the same.
You are my favorite teacher on this Internet, Mr. Ian Walsh !
Bo Gustafsson Mine, too
Lovely fiddle version of Angelina Baker. I once heard a musician play this on fiddle and sing the lyrics as well. It is a gorgeous tune.
great version, great drive!
absolutely beautiful playing and wonderful teacher
This is a great version. Thanks so much!! Trying to learn the fiddle is truly a labor of love =)

Thank you. A closeup of the right hand would be helpful also. Or, perhaps a split screen showing both hands. Thank you. Great.

Amazing...and you are so easy to understand in your lessons!
So where do you get or purchase the jam track for this (and others)?
Thanks!

Its interesting to compare his version to another famous one out there : shannon wheeler, you can see the differences between two masters.
What pick up do you use? Thank you

I wish it was slower
Actually, that's not that good for the violin - if the rosin deposit is allowed to build up it can damage the varnish, and affect the sound.
that's called RUINING THE LACQUER
Varnish
Always thought this song was about a colored slave baker during the civil war. Not an actual person name Angelina Baker.
Clean ur Violin sheesh :/
