  • A land enshrouded in spirituality, Tibet is home to distinct cultural traditions and astounding natural scenery. Cradled amidst the towering peaks of the Himalayas, Tibet is a region where the sky seems to embrace the earth. In this journey, we'll explore deep into the heart of Tibet, unveiling a world where ancient traditions thrive and where the lives of its people are as captivating as the landscape they inhabit.
    Amidst this cultural mosaic, we encounter practices as intriguing as it is uncommon - fraternal polyandry. A practice in which one woman can marry two or more siblings simultaneously, most commonly brothers. This unique marital arrangement, rooted in economic necessity and social tradition, forms a complex yet fascinating facet of Tibetan society. It challenges our understanding of family structures and invites us to explore the intricate balance between survival, culture, and the preservation of heritage in this magnificent land.
    Join us as we journey into the life of the urban Tibetans, who weave the threads of tradition with the sinews of modernity. Through the lives of the nomadic Drokpa, herders of the high plateau whose tents dot the vast expanse like stars in the night sky. We'll delve into the agrarian rhythms of the Tibetan Agriculturalists, custodians of the fertile valleys where barley and wheat sway in the mountain breeze. We'll also journey into the serene Buddhist monasteries of the Tibetan monks, diving into a world of spiritual pursuit and ancient wisdom.

      Not all Tibetans share wife amongst brothers. This is a wrong conclusion by poorly informed white guy without any study or reseach. Out of many tribes, only one tribe known as Khampas has or more accurately used to have this tradition which is probably absolute by now.

    Fun Fact : There's no Tibetan word for "Polyamory". So the culture does not conceptualize it like this video presents. In fact, it is not the woman who proposes to marry brothers. It is rather the male family that agree to this before proposing to her. In most cases, the female refuses. That's why polyamory is less than 0.1% of all existing marriages in Tibet today

      Humanity still exits??? For christs sake. Learn some history! China invaded and conquered Tibet in 1950 forcing them to accept Chinese rule. Most of the monastaries were deliberately destroyed by the Chinese before and after the war. Tibetans still to this day send daily requests to its Chinese rulers urging to be liberated and free'd from Chinese rule.

    At the beginning of this video (at .05 seconds in) you show a small lovely Monastery on the side of a mountain, well truth be told -this is the "Tiger's Nest" (also known as Paro Taktsang Monastery), is actually in Bhutan and NOT Tibet! Also, all those pretty light skinned models used in this video are Han Chinese and not your typical Tibetan woman who are darker and more robust from all the hard work that plagues them all. So I see a significant efford was made to beautify this video! Lets keep things authentic!

In the world of technology this is how they manipulate other world like this. We are happy for the development but Tibet is not a part of China . Tibetan ppl are crying in dege county and peace protesting against the dam construction destroying two villages and several monasteries and the videos was sent to the fellow tibetan outside the Tibet in exile. Since then thousands of ppl have been detained and interrogated and detained. So you guys have no say on Tibet. Shut up.

    As a Tibetan living in the U.S. A. I find this documentary very accurate and well researched account on Tibet but does not include almost 67% of Tibet; the Kham and Amdo regions which were incorporated into the Chinese provinces of Qinghai, Gansu, Szechwan, and Yunnan since China illegally invaded and occupied Tibet in 1950. So, this video contains only a one third of the Tibetan land area, otherwise I fully endorse this. 👍👍👍

    This is the question that automatically jump at me in regard to polyandry. One girl can marry three or four or five brothers. What happens when there is shortage of men since one girl have taken so many men. Can the married men take more wives. Generally in a societal men and women population is about 50/50 or slightly less for men or women. So what happens to the left over women who can’t find a man?

    I don't understand why a non- materialistic faith is represented by endless MATERIAL elements. What are the spiritual fruits of this belief system? It seems they are tied to rituals etc almost more than any other faith I've seen depicted. Great documentary, beautiful people, very interesting! ❤

    • @phrinlas
      @phrinlas 3 місяці тому

      "Non-materialistic" is inaccurate. Buddhists should not be greedy. But offering the best things to Buddhist shrines generates merit for a better rebirth in the next life. So their shrines end up having lots of precious metals. As for ritual, the monks balance ritual practice with philosophical study. But except for public debates, philosophical study does not make for great video footage. A monk who stays in the monastery for life will study philosophy for more than 20 years achieving a degree similar to a PhD.

    Ordinary Tibetans are a lot happier then before. The one in India are belong to the upper class whom used to own serf. Just like Buddhism teaching - everything is impermanent.

      One should research properly before spreading half baked facts ! Maybe the first batch of the Tibetan refugees were from the upper class because they had better knowledges of the policy of the CCP but later even landless and poor citizens of Tibet left Tibet. If the border was open today , many more “ the happy people” will leave their homeland in search of freedom for their spiritual journey….

      This is a silly statement. How do you define happiness? Yes, they are wealthier. But if you compare almost any country in 2024, it is wealthier than 1950. One cannot judge Tibetan living conditions based on whether people want to live there or not. Look at Ukraine. Some left due to the war. The majority stayed- even women and children who are not fighting. But if there was a referendum asking Tibetans if they wanted to be an independent, free democracy or stay a part of China, the results would be a landslide. Same for Xinjiang, Hong Kong, Inner Mongolia, Taiwan...

    You need to educate yourself on Tibet because you lack considerable knowledge on the subject. One of your major lack of knowledge areas is that there is no cultural oppression at all, the same in all over 5O ethnic minorities in China. On the contrary ethnic minorities are encouraged and helped to preserve their cultures and enjoy more social benefits than ethnic Han Chinese.
