As a Hispanic family our home is a shrine staring with the Vatican flag on our flag pole to Benedictine crosses over each door that enters into our home, we have a prayer corner, a multitude of statues/third class relics of multiple saints and statues of our blessed mother, many Benedictine crucifix’s even on the head boards of our beds! We also have a gallon of holy water we use to bless ourselves and our property and a multitude of shrines. We have our family Bible but a whole library of Catholic books…………… Needless to say it very clear walking into our home we are Catholics! every wall is an homage to our faith!

During Hurricane Milton, we lost power for two weeks and I wasn't able to follow my Catholic podcasts for prayers and bc I have the Liturgy of the Hours books, St. Joseph Missal, Bibles, and lots of books, it was refreshing to actually read my daily prayers holding a book.

In a Filipino Catholic home, there's a niche or special high table that serves as an altar that has the crucifix, images, candles, rosaries, prayer booklets. There's the palm leaves used for the year's Palm Sunday (to be given for burning in next year's ashes), a sampaguita (species of Jasmine) garland bought from the poor after holy mass and replaced on the next sunday mass - its scent will always recall one to holiness. The dining room always has the last supper image. In family-owned stores they have the Sto Nino image. Inside a vehicle, a cross or rosary is hung.

I grew up in an Italian family and Italian neighborhood. I've seen quite a few Madonna statues in my life and I always wanted one for myself. They are expensive and hard to find around here, but when I'll have the extra cash, I'll get myself one for my yard. I love what the Virgin Mary represents. She brings me comfort. ❤❤❤❤

We have a wall (3'x8') of Crosses & a couple Crucifixes. Another wall facing the front door has a Sacred Heart of Jesus (picture). We have 2 fonts with Holy Water. A Bible on the coffee table. Rosaries hanging on our beds. We also have extra Rosaries I will give to friends when they ask about our Catholic background. The chime on my mantle clock plays Amazing Grace. I love all of it, especially for remembrance and respect ❤

I have a large crucifix over the mantle surrounded by four others which tell a story: a cross with Jesus holding a dove (sending the Holy Spirit); a cross with the Good Shepherd and his sheep (he is always present and cares for us); a cross of the resurrected Jesus (he gives us newness of life in him), and a cross with Jesus as king. He defeated death, he was resurrected, he sent the Holy Spirit to us, he rules as king of kings and he always cares for us as the Great Shepherd of the sheep.

Change up Grace before Meals prayers. We had an Italian one and an Irish one and the common Catholic one. Different kids got to lead the prayer using one of their favorites. They had them all memorized way back then. And, we were a Franciscan family with all the children having a Franciscan middle name. My husband had spent 9 years from Jr seminary thru college.

We have a Catholic prayer room in our basement. My husband built a kneeling table. We have the crucifix in the middle by the east side of our house, under it The blessed Mother with baby Jesus. On the table two candles end to end in the middle a bowl with holy water. On the left and right wall, the sacred heart of Jesus, the holy family, the last supper, and my kids art when they had their first communion and last but not least, the nice and creed prayer. May God bless everyone 🙏🏽

I have to laugh because when Fr. Patrick Mary was a seminarian and helping me decorate for Christmas at our church, he sheepishly came to me with St Joseph from a small creche. He somehow broke off St. Joseph's hand. I sent off for super glue and Stm Joseph was repaired! Love Fr. Patrick, he's a wonderful priest!

Re:bibles, If I can reccomend, in addition to a family bible with family history, great art work etc, I think every person in the home should have their own, for kids by age 8 or 9. I come from a family of 5 and sometimes felt guilty "hogging" the family bible. Interesting, my parents each had their own.

One my favorite things is my confirmation Bible, which had space for all the family info. My favorite thing is filling out new information for new sacraments, starting with my wedding, and continuing through to my husband’s first Eucharist and confirmation this coming Easter!!!! 🩷 My husband laughed a little at how excited I was when pregnant that I would get to add a whole new person to the family Bible…

From where I sit in my living room: A print of the Holy Family, a ceramic statue of the Holy Family, an olive wood carving of the Holy Family, an image of Our Lady of Czestochowa, a print of the Madonna and Child. Across the way in the dining room, over the china hutch is a print of the Last Supper, under a small crucifix, with a statue of Our Lady of Fatima, along with a handful of angels and candles; not in line of sight, there's also a Divine Mercy image, and a carved wooden Nativity puzzle, each with a pair of bronze angels candlesticks. In the foyer is a Consecration to the Sacred Heart that my husband and I signed on our wedding day; and an altar with Our Lady of Grace, a statue of St. Michael, a small bronze crucifix with Our Lady standing beneath the cross, and a shadow box with the Purple Scapular, and (of course) candles, a plain ceramic cross, and a crucifix holy water font by the door. There's a crucifix and a statue of Our Lady in every room but the water closets. And, as a bonus in the master bedroom, an Infant of Prague statue. It is a wonderful feeling to be reminded of the loving of God no matter where I look. Now, if only I could find a place to put a priest-hole....

Is he kidding? Getting a house blessed? With an image? I had to call 3 different parishes miles apart, before I could get a priest to say last rites for my wife who was dying in the hospital. Unfortunately, we live in a time where there just aren't enough men becoming ordained priests, so they're being spread thin, and less than righteous men are being tolerated and retained. I had to travel an hour and a half to seek reconciliation.
When I confessed my sins and explained my troubles to this priest he asked how far away I lived and he still offered to come bless my home.
      So, do still try!

      @Horse-Feathers 2 місяці тому

@@texhaines9957 Ah, I'm in a very rural setting. Our priest covers two very small parishes and seems like he's always busy and traveling, so I can't manage to catch him for confession.
When my son died, there was a catholic priest on call with the hospital. He endured a hail storm and a flat tire to get there from 45 minutes away, when there were plenty of local priests.
It sounds like your priests at the cathedral are busy because they're popular! Kind of the opposite situation than me. I feel like everyone flocks to the cathedrals, which is fine, but for more intimate needs, like anointing of the sick or home blessings, you might consider consulting a priest in from a smaller parish... just maybe not out in the country, haha.

Do you know catholic families who do these things and fall apart or individuals still go after the devil? I know you do because I’m not Catholic and I’ve met some. Many.
Jesus Christ said His Father was seeking those who would worship Him in Spirit and in truth. I know you Catholics like to call Mary the Ark of the New Covenant but there are two types of Arks in the Old Covenant that give you a picture of the body and bodies. The Ark Of Noah where the family was inside and the Ark carried by and within the body of Israel. The First is the believers in Christ and the second is Christ in the believers.
In the Old Covenant the presence was on a box with laws in it. At times there were other things but the law is what’s important here. The Lord said that in His New Covenant He would remove the heart of stone and give a heart of flesh and that He would write the law in our hearts and our inward parts. Remember how the Hebrews were told to write the commands on their doors and gates in Deuteronomy 11 like the blood on the doors in the Exodus? Jesus Christ said He was the temple. Every single true believer becomes a Royal Priest in the Temple of God and they hold an Ark inside the Ark of Christ. They become a wellspring of living water where He flows through and over them.
That Ark of the Covenant was the throne of God (Mercy Seat). Jesus Christ said the Kingdom of Heaven is within men. When He reigns on the throne of a man’s heart (remember the law and where it’s written and where it was kept in the Ark) they don’t need outward reminders because they Love Him as He said and that Love is received from Him and is for everyone. When you’ve met the King and His love floods your heart you don’t need reminders to love Him and people. You become children of love. You are born of God. I know you’ll take this weird but you become little loves. It’s wrong to want to be God in control but to be like God is to submit and not desire to control. Look at how He is patient with people. Then says to produce His fruit or do His work. Men believe being God means controlling everyone but it means He’s in control even when Pharaoh takes his life in his own hands and disobeys Him.
The change must happen in heaven in you or no thing should be able to create the love that should be in your heart already. I don’t look at my wedding ring to remember that I love my wife. I remember her face and the things we’ve been through and our intimacy and her laughing and her little snoring at night and her farts in the morning and the good and the frustrating and that the one who created her gave His life for her and I remember His words that tell how good He is from Genesis to the flood that confuses people about love for some reason to entering Egypt to the Exodus and destruction of Egypt to His little boy on the Cross being tortured by men for them.
Have your things. I’ll do what Mary did and cherish these things in my heart. But I will never ever pray to her or angels or even Jesus Christ because He said men can now go to the Father in His name and He will give them what they request according to His will.
I’m an uneducated dumb dumb but I know one thing: the Lord Himself has spoken to me and shown me things and done miracles that I don’t need anyone to investigate because He knows. Why seek the approval of men.
