- Every photograph you make is a story. The characters you add and the composition you employ help you advance the plot. But no photographic story is truly complete without beautiful light. Great light, whether it is found or created is like the score in a movie, it gives a story depth, emotion, and direction. Jared Platt is a master at shaping light and will teach you how to enhance the natural light you find with simple to use flash techniques to make your photographs truly sing!
Learn how to make ordinary light, extraordinary with flash, and give the light in your photographs a stronger voice. Join Jared and Profoto at the B&H Event Space and learn how to create beautiful light with the Profoto A1 (the world’s smallest studio light). This class is great for photographers with and without flash experience, professional, and enthusiasts alike.

Jared Platt is one of the greats. Have a lot of respect for him. Great one B&H. Thanks
One of the best flash lighting videos I have seen in a while. Thank you.
Your class is mesmerising, you have such a beautiful way to put across the subtle points in the listeners mind. One of the best Lessons I have come across in the UA-cam. Thanks Jared Platt and B&H.
Great way of teaching lighting by working with the direction of natural light instead of trying to overpower or work against the light. Best saying work smarter not harder!!! That saying works with any type of job not just for photography. I have used that philosophy ever since my first job.
Outstanding teacher, I felt like I was on a master class. He have a Amazing theory falling the light 💡 thank you B&H
That theatre picture is amazing!
this has to be one of the best explanations on how to use flash to sculpt
Thanks for the feedback
This was amazing. Thank you for the time Jared Platt!

EXCELLENT course!! Thank you!!!!
Good tutorial.. Tnkz B&H
Thank you for this kind of information.
One day i will be the greatest photographer in the world.
One day Photographer cherish because i also doing it.
This a really good tutorial - packed full of useful information!
The tethering issue I once was aware to be a Lightroom/Canon combination caused problem, if the computer or camera goes to standby. You must restart tethering completely then, to do so, 1. disconnect and power off cam, 2. stop tethering tool of Lr, 3. start tethering tool, 4. power on and connect cam. To avoid this, ensure camera and computer do not go to sleep mode.
So the secret would be to adjust camera and computer settings as to NOT go into sleep or standby mode. Right?
Wow this tip about Nikon histogram with display zoom! Man you made my day! After ~10 years of shooting with Nikon I had no idea about that yet! Thanks!!!!
I really love this video practical and useful. Question though, it was done on Aug 2, 2018; yet everybody has winter clothing ?? I'm think shorts & t-shirts.
Well done. Great presentation.
I wonder what if the main source of light is directly from the back of my subject ?
This is very professional 👏👏👏👏👏
agree
Jared never disappoints
Great presentation! Jared is great.
Well done! Great info!
Thanks for watching.
I don't even go to a photo shoot without a full range of lighting and modifiers. The variety of styles and looks makes natural light only a distant second (especially in Phoenix where I'm also at)
Excellent teacher.
I felt he was only talking to me
Jared is a. Very good instructor
I agree
enjoy this video very much
I think he makes it easy to follow along with the way he tells everything like he was just talking to me only
Nice, Jared! I enjoyed seeing your approach, and it makes sense of course. Thank you.
Great tutorial Jared. Awesonme info. Thank you
musica
Jared Platt is an instructor that is a cut above the others. He teaches you that only learning how to use the tools will not make you a photographer. You have to learn how to take those tools and create an artistic expression.
no entiendo... porqué no tiene conectada la cámara a la notebook para mostrar en los monitores... pésimo
Pissami offa lotta too oh. That'sa no amore'
Brilliant thank you for this it was a great help
I'm only 50 min into the vid & so far a great vid. How does he turn the brush for the light on the wall off & on in lightroom? Thanks in advance for any replies.
He probably went to the history and clicked before he added the light (which he probably did as the last thing in LR). I hope this helps.
So does he do TTL or not?? Never did hear.
Great information! Thank you!
Thanks Larissa for watching
Excellent topic and presentation, however it was a shame the tethering wasn’t successful
I really hope the person who asked about TTL didnt spend a fortune on an A1:)
on the board it say's "she greeted him in a faltering voice" not a flattering voice, literature is all about the words
You could say he faltered.
The language we use is not light. The language is our subjects. Light is an aspect of their form, and SECONDARY OR LESS to the essence of the subject.
I finally see it . thanks,
Wow. The sound of silence after those initial terrible jokes is palpable.
lol...and the analogies...ya dude, it's just not working for me... got 4 minutes in and had to stop...sorry...
Don’t tether with Lightroom. Use capture one and all your problems go away.
i loved the talk, but, can we please just stop trying to use LightRoom to tether, it never works properly. in all my time tethering ive had LR crash almost every time i tether, but capture one seems to never have an issue.
Maybe it's your pc
You would think that working out the tethering issue before recording the video would have been standard procedure. I'm sure those folks paid in some form or another to be there.
It seems that almost every presenter has tethering issues at this store. Not sure why that is. Personally, I've never had a tethering issue.
It´s NOT tethering... it´s LightRoom... lol
While the speakers at B&H have some great insights to impart, many could stand to tighten their presentations considerably. I only got nine minutes into this talk, but the speaker had wandered off topic already. Please, edit your talks as much as you would edit your photos. Although I value the insights these speakers bring, these insights would be better delivered in tighter talks.
good info, but his pictures look awful
