Nice to see this example. Driving an electric car I am often confronted with the disussion about reduced milage in cold conditions. Your example shows that this is just the same with petrol cars. On cost, this is where an electric would shine against an ICE. The reach is irrelevant, since the commute distance will in 99% of all cases not reach 200km one way.
That’s a interesting way you describe it! Would probably work good enough for me with electric car. But as for now is still bad infrastructure here in north with charger so some place I would have a bit struggle to drive in the same way I doing now, because I had to use slow wall charging in some case.
i got a w203 c220 110kw with 722.6 gearbox. wagon version with around 1500-1600kg car weight. in winter conditions and traffic i run at 10l per 100km. Very short routes, less then 10kilometers per start. I find those conditions to be the worst for the car and consumption. On a longer drive at night in the city the consumption will drop to 7+- L. Open roads it will sit at 5.5-6l. On summer, with short trips and high traffic i get around 8, 8.5l per 100km. Open roads around 5l. Overall combined fuel consumption in winter for my car is 10l, summer 7.5l. I believe i can get a better fuel consumption if i drove longer distances. The car is being driven 90% of the time in the city with traffic. It has a dpf. Tires are 16" 205-55. The measurments are done by filling up to full, driving then filling back. Calculating the fuel used to cover the kilometers. Not via the car. Your consumption is spot on. Your car weights +1600kg + automatic transmission + cold temperatures + short distances + 4matic. 15l in winter/city short distances with that weight-power is great. Btw we run diesel here at 1.12e for regular and 1.22e for the better one. Petrol is 1.22e 95 and 98 1.32e. Lpg at around 0.8e
Finland has also diesel tax. Which is 2e each day. Depends on the car weight. Some small diesel could be 600e year. Mb is 750year. Bigger mb like gl could be 1100e year. But even electric cars need to pay like 200.
Did not know you had so high road tax in Finland but also you have way better roads then we have here, at least to my experience! This E350 is 330 euro yearly in road tax.

16.22 miles per gallon on our archaic system. Cold and somewhat stop and go driving and the extra weight of the estate model. Interesting. If to go for more economical Mercedes where you still have some power to play with (obviously not as much as 3 litre V6 engines) E250 CDI isn't that bad for it's ratio of power and economy.....around 5 litres on a highway and around 7 litres in city while having 150kw and 500nm
Usually this is totally normal. This warms up the engine and the transmission fluids faster. When the transmission fluid is warm enough, the transmission will use it’s normal program and therefore improve efficiency by a lot.
Yes it normal the gearbox and engine will increase RPM so it will warm up , the temperature sensor send the signal to the computer to change the car behaviour so it can warm up faster the best is to warm up at least 2 min

@@MB212G My old E 320 cdi usually hit 13l mark in the summer, so this consumption is absolutely normal for City driving at such low temperatures. Besides, I never switch the AC off, which dries the air and warms the cabin up to 30min with the engine turned off.
There is also another reason to add in. Our government think they can save the world by adding additives to the fuel, both diesel and petrol. This makes the fuel less efficient to. (The percent of this additive was or will be raised even more.) So the consumption goes up and from what I understand even slightly more when it is cold outside. I also live and drive in Sweden but with a Volvo S90 MY18 petrol-engine and if I drive short trips mostly to and from work 4,5 Km (Mixed roads, not only city-driving) i get about average 1.3 L/10 Km but another trip 45 KM country roads was last time I checked about 0.8 L / 10 KM. I have not made a calculation but one thing is for sure our taxes and fees added to the fuel price by our government here in Sweden are ridiculous and have skyrocketed the latest months so the price for shorter trips have getting slightly more expensive. And even more on longer trips since there is where the fuel price affects the total trip cost even more.

That's not how you measure fuel consumption. The most simple way to do it is to fill up the tank, drive your usual percourses, then fill it up again. Then you divide the total volume you put in the tank in the second filling for the total kilometers driven. The result will be in kilometers per liter.
There's nothing like a TDI VW. Here in the USA diesel is about $3.49 per gallon right now and this old $2000 car can go almost exactly five hundred miles on a twelve gallon tank of diesel. It is almost like driving for free.

That’s sounds reasonable! Actually I should drive a gasoline car because I usually drive short distance like in this video. But I like Diesel engines to much 🙄 When I check the consumption after driving like this for months is around 1.1 l/100km.
@@MB212G Don't you also have this motor maping upgrade on your engine? Maybe that's a reason for the higher consumption ? My with the same engine is about 0,8 l/100km but we haven't had that low temperature in the south.
The consumption of this car is usually ca. 9l / 100 km. 7,5l on motorway, and ca. 10l in city traffic. If you drive the car sporty, you are at 12-15l. I guess the consumption calculation is false, but i don´t have much experiences at such low temperatures/ measured short trips at this temperature. May be the car injects at very cold conditions more fuel for extra lubrication in the combustion chamber, but this should stop if the engine is at temperature. I would measure the same distance with a warm engine as reference.
Look for the engine oil with low NOACK less than 8. In this case oil will stay pretty much at the same level assuming that you have a ‘healthy’ engine.
HUGE difference between E350 and E220 CDI! OK, I drive 24 km to work and my typical summer time consumption is less than 5 per 100 km and in winter it's less than 6 / 100 km.
You said insurance, car depreciation, maintenance divided by 12000km = 3 euro You fuel costs you 3 euro per 10km So your overall cost per 10km is (3*10) + 3 = 33 Euro You didn’t multiply your insurance and depreciation and maintenance by 10
Looking down for few seconds to climate controls while driving on icy road on a good ammount of speed, hands of the wheel and not enough distance from the car in front of you. Not very clever.
Because Mercedes has a very old engine, om642 that have been produced since 2005. compare it with Audi V6 EA897 engine. It's much more efficient and newer.
Yeah, for such a short distance this consumption is ok for such a diesel. It takes time for the different fluids to warm up in these conditions. The consumption is not only about the engine temperature but also the transmission fluid temperature and that is the biggest reason why these cars with big diesel engines and automatic transmission takes a lot of fuel for the first 10 kilometres. The consumption tapers down when all of the fluids reach correct temperature. Also the transmission will help the efficiency when it is warm. Personally I drive a 2009 530xdA in Finland and right now in -10 celsius I’m getting 10 litres/100km for shorter distances in urban areas and 5-6l/100km when I drive longer distances on main roads.
my c200k 2006 eats 11l in winter city. And also 11l in summer city. Thats how it is. Small engine, heats up much faster. Do u realize how much your diesel suffers? Thats why I bought petrol this time. Eff diesel unless you driving highways all the time and a lot. 12k km a year? Thats not why u buy a diesel LOL
This is not relevant. You need to make at least 100km continuously and then the board computer will show you the correct consumption. All these consumption when driving the car less then 100km are not precise and there are also some guess factor included. Do full 100km and then show us the consumption.

Fuel price keep going up like crazy nowadays around here!

Have you noticed that your car runs at lower gears when the engine is cold? My 350 does that and I'm curious is it normal :D

But I like Diesel engines to much 🙄
When I check the consumption after driving like this for months is around 1.1 l/100km.
Diesel needs long rides for a good consumption. Otherwise go for a petrol engine.
@@MB212G Don't you also have this motor maping upgrade on your engine? Maybe that's a reason for the higher consumption ? My with the same engine is about 0,8 l/100km but we haven't had that low temperature in the south.

The warning assist system go crazy sometimes in the winter haha
The consumption of this car is usually ca. 9l / 100 km. 7,5l on motorway, and ca. 10l in city traffic. If you drive the car sporty, you are at 12-15l. I guess the consumption calculation is false, but i don´t have much experiences at such low temperatures/ measured short trips at this temperature. May be the car injects at very cold conditions more fuel for extra lubrication in the combustion chamber, but this should stop if the engine is at temperature. I would measure the same distance with a warm engine as reference.
Hi MB212, thank you for this new video!
Now, can you tell how is the oil consumption of your OM642? Does it go up in this cold winter time?
My old E220 with the OM651 I could not tell any oil consumption at all, same with this engine so far!
You said insurance, car depreciation, maintenance divided by 12000km = 3 euro
You fuel costs you 3 euro per 10km
So your overall cost per 10km is (3*10) + 3 = 33 Euro
You didn’t multiply your insurance and depreciation and maintenance by 10
Looking down for few seconds to climate controls while driving on icy road on a good ammount of speed, hands of the wheel and not enough distance from the car in front of you. Not very clever.

This is not relevant. You need to make at least 100km continuously and then the board computer will show you the correct consumption. All these consumption when driving the car less then 100km are not precise and there are also some guess factor included. Do full 100km and then show us the consumption.
