I liked Buffy and Riley. It was sad when she realised how she had felt and tried to stop him from leaving but was too late. The episode after that showed how much she had loved him and how hurt she was by the break up. She told Giles that it had felt like the end of the world. She had overreacted to Anya and Xander's fight and sobbed uncontrollably throughout the episode. She had talked to Dawn about it too, how it had hurt so much that it had felt like a knife in her heart. She had taken down his pictures because it was too hard for her to look at them and had hoped that he'd come back so that they'd work things out. Buffy and Riley had a real relationship. When she met Angel he already knew she was the slayer. With Riley she had trusted him with her slayer secret. She had told him about Angel. She had opened up to him in ways she never had before. People dismiss that and prefer to ship her with sick twisted stalkers like Spike who had tried to rape her. People who ship Spuffy care way more about Spike's happiness than they do about Buffy's. Spike was and always will be the worst love interest for Buffy.

Xander is Joss Whedon’s self insert. Prove me wrong. Also Oz deserved so much more.
He used to say that in interviews. People would ask "Which character are you most like?" and he would say Xander-- because (his words, although I'm paraphrasing) he's a normal, not very talented guy surrounded by a lot of badass people. And then one time he was asked that question again and he said he's changed his mind and he's actually most like Buffy. And that's Joss Whedon in a nutshell. Writes a mediocre male character as a self-insert, pretends to be humble and self-deprecating for the fans, then eventually reveals that he has a god complex.

Oz was done so dirty.
Oz only got written off the show because Seth Green was done with the role. However if he had stayed on he would have died in Taras place. So IDK I guess I'll take what I got.
It was so obvious. I never liked Xander myself, something about him just creeped me out.

Honestly would recommend. The characters and world building are great and most of the show still holds up to today. And Buffy is the reason why many shows tv shows are the way they are now: that particular blend of supernaturalness, romance, school drama, and fights; the use of the phrase “the big bad”. It originated in Buffy. It’s really interesting to know that the tropes that you see in modern shows that you take for granted didn’t blend together until Buffy got the formula right.
I love both Buffy and it’s sister show Angel, even if the last two seasons (especially S4) of Angel are lacklustre. Cordelia is one of the best characters from this fandom, I will fight anyone on this. Watching her character growth in both shows is truly beautiful.
Friendly tip, apparently they released a “remastered” version of Buffy and it’s terrible. “Passion of the Nerd” has done a fantastic video on it on UA-cam. If you do decide to watch, try not to watch the remastered version.

I’m only in the middle of season 6 though, so I guess I can look forward to the joy of finally being able to fully appreciate some of these to accompany the overwhelming dread of whatever horrible tragedies await :, )

I like how it's been long enough that I forgot who I used to ship, barely remember the names of most of the characters, but still got the "bitter about season 6" jokes. Makes the whole video feel fitting in a way I can't put into words.

Nah Oz was too nice. Was hiding his bullshit behind an indie,/hippy/ cool guy vibe. It's the hidden depths behind the characters that makes the show so awesome.......bad guys can be decent deep down (,Angel, Spike) and nice guys can be dark (werewolf Oz, Chad Riley , badass Giles)

Angel/Buffy was the first ship I ever read fic for! In hindsight the Spike/Buffy dynamic is more fun but I've never really been able to let go of my first ship lol.
Sadly a lot of the smaller fanfiction archives I read those fics on were shot down and only a small number of authors transferred their work to ao3 or ffnet.
Still missing and thinking about some of my old faves :( (while being grateful that ao3 is a thing now)
