Pickle soup will always remind me of my mother. She passed away a year ago, but, I had the honor of making this for her, and she said it was better than hers!
It wasn't, in my opinion. 😊
I miss my mother terribly, but, cooking Polish food, that she taught me to cook, she's always with me! ❤

I made this for dinner one time, and when my American friend came over, I offered her some. She made this face (lol), it's hard to explain, I guess you just had to be there. She tried it and before you knew it, the whole bowl was gone and she was asking for seconds. Few days later she called me asking to make a pot for her and her family. It's like you said, they think it's not good until they try it themselves. Love it, and love watching you cook all the dishes from my childhood.

This is my favorite polish soup. My mother in law always said “smacznego” before we start the meal. She last month passed away from COVID, I made this soup for my husband a few times. a quiet way to remember her.

This sounds just like what she made, so I'm going to need to make a trip to the store to get the ingredients☺☺☺. I really love your sense of humour and it brings me back to my childhood. Of course I am a non- measurer, that is the way I learned to cook so having these recipes will make it easier to pass along to my children and grandchildren. Thank you very much for all of your videos.

Just made this for the first time, following a Polish-American's recipe, and I ended up blending half of it and thickening with sour cream + flour mixed with some of the broth. Most of the videos I've seen by European Poles make it brothy like you did, so I think this might be more of an American mash-up with French leek soup, tho, but it was delicious!

I love pickle soup, Anna! I'm going to make some today, using your recipe. There used to be a small cafe in the basement of the Polish library at St. Stanislaus church here in Portland, Oregon, that served Polish food, and that's where I ate pickle soup for the first time. I fell in love with it, but then the cafe closed. So now I have to make it myself. That's not a problem, since I love to cook, so I'm looking forward to trying it today. Thanks for sharing your recipes! Jon Gornick

@@PolishYourKitchen The soup turned out great! Bardzo smaczna! I probably have too much chicken and potatoes in it, but then again, I'm comparing it to what I ate at the cafe where I first tried it. And being a person who cooks a lot, it's all personal preference, anyway. Next time I'll probably use smaller (or fewer) potatoes, and maybe cut down on the chicken and use more pickles. The jar of pickles I bought at the European foods store (pickles in brine) was a little small. Like you, I prefer the soup good and sour. Thanks again!

I love pickle soup. I buy it often at the Polish Deli. You have inspired me to try making my own. What do you think of the idea of dropping in some pierogi during the last five minutes of cooking? Do pickle soup and pierogi go together?

The other reason Poles don't take the vegies out of the soup is bcoz cooking them whole adds flavour to the broth and when you cut them up to put back into the soup, they retain their flavour and taste so different compared to if you diced them and cooked them first. This is what I have learnt anyway.

Are you talking about sorrel soup. Sorrel is a Spring herb that grows like a weed in Poland. It's naturally quiet sour and it's used in a variety of green sorrel soups. Also goes with fish.

My grandfather always used to suck on the chicken bones, especially the neck bones.
