Clever girl! It must be so daunting for them to begin with, and it is wonderful to see how confident she is now. Having Magnus to show her she can do it must have been a calming presence for her. Pats for Magnus and Scout xx
You guys are so patient and caring with your dogs. They have really fallen on their paws with you. I love the way Scout uses the wall as a prop for support/confidence in her early attempts 🙂
Must be scary to have to go head first down a flight of stairs, especially for the first time. Finding a smaller less steep set of stairs is a great idea for starting them off!! Sending love from Canada 💕
Greys are so wonderful dog's. Im also getting an ex-racer from Irland next month and i'm very very happy. His name is Brack. Thank you so much for the great videos about Magnus and Scout, both are absolut beautyful. Kinds regards from Basel in Switzerland.
It does make a big difference when they can do them themselves. Glad our new boy Luka can do them. Once they get the stairs a couple of times they will be alright after that. Scout is still skipping down the stairs.
We were so lucky with Donal our 3 years old Irish ex-racer, he figured out stairs all on his own and now rips up and down them chasing after our 10mo old Whippet Pup, or visiting me in the workshop. Great tips in case I decide to get a third.
Brought Tully home in the morning, showed him the garden, went for a short walk - all good. Bedtime - last widdle in the garden - us thinking how will he cope with the stairs. Haha, he was up there like greased lightning! He will not go out first thing for a pee - has a lie in (with us) and only gets up when we’re both dressed. What joy he has brought. Good technique for the newbie dog thanks for showing this.
When I had my greyhounds, my home didn't have stairs - but my workplace did. One day on the weekend, I had to pick something up at the office, and decided to take my dogs with me, and I didn't even think about it. They followed me up the stairs no problem. But... when it was time to leave, as soon as we got near the stairway to go down, they froze in their tracks. They evidently saw the route down as nothing but a drop off a cliff. So one at a time, I had to carry an 80 and then 90 pound (36 and 41 kg) dog down the stairs (they were tall, even for greyhounds). Easier than upstairs I suppose. After that, I of course taught them how to do stairs!
Beautiful video & great ideas using the stairs while out walking. I have a friend with a hound who doesn't do stairs. Am passing this video on to her. Hopefully it will help.
We don't have stairs but our greyhound has a fear of slick or wooden floors. Resulted in a lot of rugs and runners placed throughout the house so he's comfy getting around. We didn't realize this when we first adopted him and he got panicked and started sliding/running/and got all splayed out off his legs on the floor. Fortunately he didn't get injured. Been doing great for a year now though! Unfortunately he's at the vet tonight getting a ruptured anal gland treated, poor guy. No big deal though.....anti biotics and has to wear his muzzle for a week to not lick with a modified stool guard in it so he can still drink water freely.
We had to put runners in our last apartment as it had wood floors in almost every room. We went for carpet for most of our new home because of the pups.
I'll be curious to see if we can get our pupper to go up and down our stairs. We have steeper stairs than you do, with a weird landing before the bottom floor that isn't super wide/long. I've also heard its not the best for dogs to use stairs because of joint issues, but it'd be a darn shame to have our dog only be down in the living room/kitchen. I guess it will just be something we attempt, and see if it's safe enough for him to do it unsupervised. We had an older family dog do it, which surprised us, she just really wanted to come up and see what we were doing we had no idea she even attempted it until we saw her in the hallway hahaha, and her younger sister wouldn't even attempt the stairs, so maybe there's hope!
Oh wows bless you both very clever teaching this scouts so proud she can do it bless her kucky to have you both xxx and be proud of such beautiful babys ive always wanted a greyhoundive had dodie over 25 years lost my baby ,ast june was devastated wanted to rescue a grey but husbsnd git his own way another doby pup been the naughtiest yet ! Love watching your beautiful babys thankyou xxxxx
When I moved from a bungalow to a house I told mine sleeps are upstairs food is down they got the idea on day 1, adopted 2 more since they learnt on day 1 as well lol 😆
This is really helpful! We're bringing home our first greyhound in a couple of weeks (from the same rescue as Magnus and Scout I believe!) and we live on the top floor of a tenement, so we'll definitely need to do lots of stair training with her. Luckily I can think of a few places nearby with steps that we can use to train her. I'm sure she'll figure it out soon enough if she needs to go up and down them to go out for walks and the toilet.
@@magnusgreyhound Hello I really love Both your Irish Greyhounds Magnus and Scout :) My Uncle in India has got 7 Greyhounds and I hope to get a greyhound one day here in Scotland. I love your videos a lot they are very helpful.
Our greyhound girl knew how to do stairs and didn't have a problem-- our black greyhound boy, it took NINE MONTHS of paw-by-paw placement before he finally "got" stairs. To be fair, ours is an old house with steep stairs, but NINE MONTHS.
That is great. Hope they settle in their new home quickly. they are great dogs. the first few days can be challenging as they are sometimes stressed when coming into a new home, but they will settle. welcome to the club.
Awww your videos have really helped with our retired greyhound! Could you do a video on recall? Being a sighthound if Vladimir sees a rabbit it's really hard to stop him going for it!
We had a similar problem our our Grey, we found showing them up and down with the lead on really helped her get the hang of it, we've only had her about a week but she's doing really well with the stairs at the moment, she's just a bit nervous at the start and then runs up them easily enough
My wife and I LOVE your videos. Y’all do such a great job and are clearly loving parents. We’ve seen every one, and it really helps my wife during these trying times. When will the next video be uploaded? I don’t think we can take the anticipation anymore!
Glad you like the videos. been really busy at my regular job so I am behind the in video making. Hoping to get some new videos out shortly. Have a few ideas of the subject matter. just need to get time to film and edit the videos.
We've decided not to teach our black & white Macy about stairs as we don't want her to mess up the carpets! Great video though - Scout looks almost like ours... Especially when she roaches
Scout had not figured out the stairs when she broke her leg. so we restarted the training after her leg had healed. I spent about 10 weeks carrying her up and down the stairs.
Hiya we’ve just adopted a 3 year old girl and we’ve been carrying her up and down since we got her and it’s getting hard, especially when other people look after her and they can’t carry her. How long did it take for scout to learn? Xxx
When we switched to training Scout outside to learn stairs, it then took about a week to build up from 1 or 2 steps up to 10 or 12 steps. Once she had this we tried again at home. She was able to do them by the 2nd attempt. A week after that she was running up and down the stairs.
@@magnusgreyhound This is great. The frustrating thing is our greyhound is amazing at stairs outside. We tried today and she went up and down the steps at the park (20-30 steps ) no problem, but she just can’t do the home stairs 😮💨
Big brother Magnus helping his humans to teach Scout. What a good boy.
Love you all. Virginia in northern Ohio. Stay well and be safe.
Thanks for the well wishes.

My greyhound is 13 and we are still working on stairs!
Hope they get there. it does make it easier when they figure them out.
Magnus' wiggle as he goes down the stairs is my new favourite thing ever
We like it too.
Their concentration face whilst going down the stairs is just too cute.
it is cute.

Thanks for this, it's a really useful post! Plus it's always a pleasure to see the hounds
Glad you enjoyed it!
The way she does it initially is so so cute. Ours was terrified at first so now when I see him hurtle up and down then I’m so proud.
It is funny to watch her now. no fear anymore.
Greyt video!! Our 2-1/2 year old is just learning, but I still have to carry his 44kg body down afterwards. Can't wait until he can do it on his own!!

So difficult to find a video about greyhounds dealing with strairs!!! So helpful!!!!!!! Thank you!! Thank you !! Thank you!!!!!

I love your videos. We just filled out an application to adopt a greyhound.
Wonderful. Good on you.

Luckily Magnus can do the stairs as he is around 40kg so a heavy load to carry.
It’s so funny that Magus and Scout seem to like to stick to the wall as they are going down the stairs! My greyhound does the exact same thing :)
They love a routine. I think the stairs seem less daunting if they hug the wall.

Did you have to do any retraining with Scout after she broke her leg?
Scout had not figured out the stairs when she broke her leg. so we restarted the training after her leg had healed. I spent about 10 weeks carrying her up and down the stairs.
Do greyhounds like dry commercial dog food?
