Born in 1961...so Ladybird books were my childhood. I learnt to read with the early readers and later loved to read the story books like Rapunsel, Cinderella, Snow white, Rumplestiltskin, The Elves and the Shoemaker and all the rest. The illustrations are what made these books so unique and totally absorbing to me as a child. The art work was simply fabulous.
Wonderful illustrations aren't they. I think they also appeal because of the size of the books. Perfect for small hands to hold. I also learned to read with them. :)
Thank you so much for taking us to the Ladybird book exhibition! My fondest memories are for the fairytale series - and I can remember being a little bit afraid of the Rumpelstiltskin illustrations when I was a child!
What a wonderful exhibition, I felt quite emotional seeing so many books that I recognised from my childhood, made me quite nostalgic, now I need to look out for some ladybird books when I’m charity shop browsing. Oh and I adored your ladybird sketches. 🐞🐞🐞Thank you for sharing your visit. 🙏
You're welcome Julie. x I only have a small collection too. They always feel just right to hold and look at. The size was perfect for children. There is something quite magical about a small book I feel.
What a nostalgic watch loved the ladybird books so many memories. Adore your ladybird painting. I've share a few of your videos especially of your magical garden with a fruend currently receiving cancer treatment for 6 weeks in hospital where dhe cant keave her toom. Its been such a blessing to her to see the gorgeous birds flower's bees 🐝 💕. Thank you for your work so appreciated ❤
Thank you. I’m so glad you enjoyed it. 🙏✨ Blessings to your friend on her healing journey. I hope she is well enough to be outside and hear the birds again soon 🌼✨💫
I love your ladybird painting in your sketchbook! My husband has a small collection of Ladybird books from his childhood, I need to tell him about this exhibition he’d love it too! I remember the Ladybird clothing, it’s never occurred to me that it was linked to the book company. Thankyou for sharing this Karen!xx
What a wonderful exhibition. My favourite Ladybird books were The Farm and The Seasons. I still have some that belonged to my sons who will be 50 this year. The gingerbread boy and The Porridge pot. What lovely memories thank you for sharing this. Xx
Thank you so much for sharing your visit to the exhibition. My two sisters and I had a big collection of Ladybird books and I still have quite a few even now. I learnt to read with some of the Peter and Jane stories. I must have been influenced by the illustrations in Cinderella because I had a pink wedding dress (her pink ball dress was my favourite!) I love your ladybirds too. I echo the thanks to the illustrators - what a massive impact they had on us all.
Thanks for sharing your memories. The pink dress sounds wonderful. It’s amazing to think just how much effect these books/ pictures had on children. I also learned to read with the same ones. Little memories I thought I had forgotten re-emerged seeing some of the pictures. One funny one in particular to do with the illustration of the boy and girl feeding the pony. I remembered how I was really envious of them as I so desperately wanted a pony as a child, but our family were not well off enough to afford one.☺️ 😄
Such precious memories you evoked - of my own childhood and then again that of my own children. Thank you so much! And I love your videos, your paintings, your videos are such a gift. 😊
Your playful ladybird painting in your sketchbook was beautiful.😍 The exhibition was a joy too. Definitely sparked lots of memories and I wish I still had my ladybird books. Thanks for sharing.😊
Your painting is so magical and inspiring. I'm an artist in north Florida and you've inspired me to paint whats in my own back yard-- we have an occasional bunny and fox which I love to see. My great grandmother was from Bath and I'd love to go there one day. Thank you for what you do❤
Oh Thank you So Much ☺️ Your Artwork is Beautiful , these videos are Lovely ❣️ hopefully i can find one of Your Hares ❤ Yes , Play More, Wonderfull reminder ❣️
That was so lovely. The exhibition brought tears to my eyes; I have a collection of the Ladybird wild flowers, birds, trees and general nature ones, which still give me a lot of pleasure. I really love your artwork. It's such a joy to see. Thank you. :)
Oh, the Ladybird exhibition looks wonderful. I recognise so many of the books and illustrations. My Gran used to read the stories to me at bedtime. So many memories! Thank you for sharing your day out with us 😀
My word, the Ladybird books brought back a lot of lovely memories. Both my Nan and Grand dad bought the fairytales. Three Billy Goats Gruff, Rumplestiltskin, Rapunzel, the while lot. A big smile in my heart, thank you😊. I love your ladybug watercolour.
I love childrens books, I still collect them.I used to read to my two sons they are grown up now and I missed the books and I thought no you still love them so don’t stop and I haven’t.Cinderella was from my childhood born in 1960.xx🐝🐝🐝
Absolutely, keep reading them. Some of the best books are children’s books. I did the same with my two children who are also grown up now. Wonderful memories ❤️✨💫😊
wow that is a lovely exhibition.. I remember lady bugs in the thousands back in the day. sadly in the late 1990s the asian beetle became predominet here in the states where I live 😢
Seeing these books brought back childhood memories..Thank you for taking us along.. I always do a happy dance when I see you've done a new video..I just adore your art work and follow you on Instagram too.. Looking forward to the next one❤
What a delightful video! I loved the Ladybird books too and recognised many. The Elves and the Shoemaker, Cinderella and some I’d completely forgotten about. I have a copy of Lost at the Fair which I got second hand as I loved it so much. I think I remember The Wise Robin too. ❤
Your videos always bring so much peace and beauty, thank you. And yes , I have a collection of vintage ladybird books and a copy of the Shell guide to British Flowers.
Well that's tomorrow afternoon sorted, thank you Karen we're going to see it, thank you. The book on King Alfred was the first one I remember. I still have a few copies with me now, anything with wings in it I was there - and still am,🤓. David
Thank you for the wonderful books. I have a set from the 1960s and have taught reading with them ever since. Most of the children I taught were town dwellers and were fascinated by the freedom of the children in the books.
That’s wonderful that you are still teaching with them. I would imagine many children these days lack the freedom of children back then which is sad isn’t it. As a child of the 70’s in the countryside, I would often put a handful of biscuits in my pocket or a sandwich and stay out playing all day. So different now.
Wonderful video, I have just subscribed! As others have said, I felt quite emotional seeing all those much loved books. Then…..you bought “The Wise Robin”, my absolute favourite as a child, I wonder where my copy went? Your artwork was a delight too, thank you for sharing it with us.
It was quite emotional seeing them all together like that and realising how they impacted generations of children. I was so pleased to get 'The Wise Robin' it's such and sweet and innocent story isn't it. :) Thanks so much for subscribing!
Pretty sure they had a Ladybird illustration exhibition in Walsall about 10 years ago and if I remember correctly, that had the actual paintings in rather than the reproductions shown here.
I don't currently have any available . Normally when I make a batch, I will add them to my website shop. You can sign up for notifications via the shop though. :)
I was excited to watch this during a particularly ill moment to relax, and went to turn off the sound and turn on the close captioning because my illness makes me sound sensitive, and was disappointed to see that close captioning had been turned off. I hope at some point you consider accessibility for your videos.

How lovely! The one thing I collect is the 606D series of Ladybird books❤
That’s the Fairytale ones I think, isn’t it? They are lovely aren’t they. ✨🐞
Yes, they're exquisite.
This was wonderful. I’ve actually still got all of my ladybird books from when I was little in the early 1970’s. I’ve got about 30😊
How lovely that you still have them all. They are beautiful little books and don’t take up much room being small either, which is always good 😊
