  • Here's a collection of songs taken from various albums of Rhapsody. There's a classical feeling about them all. It's also a smooth introduction to Rhapsody for those who are not keen on metal music. Enjoy!
    Legendary Tales:
    - "Warrior of Ice"
    - "Rage of the Winter"
    - "Flames of Revenge"
    - "Land of Immortals"
    - "Lord of Thunder"
    Symphony of Enchanted Lands I:
    - "Emerald Sword"
    - "The Dark Tower of Abyss"
    Dawn of Victory:
    - "O Holy Thunderforce"
    - "The Last Winged Unicorn"
    The Power of the Dragonflame:
    - "Agony is my Name"
    Symphony of Enchanted Lands II:
    - "Power of the Raging Winds"
    - "Shadows of Death"
    ...so what's your favourite part?

    My favorite part is The Dark Tower Of Abyss

    Two things: 1) I noted a decline about quality of Rhapsody compositions, especially in classical parts: there's a combination of intense and delicate musical instinct inside the first albums, especially 'Legendary Tales' and 'Symphony of Enchanted Lands', in 'Dawn of Victory' was a pause on this respect (mainly), but later they could not or they did not want to back to those delicate treatment of the orchestra sounds (I think Staropoli).

    In reply to GhostRider792, Rhapsody/Rhapsody Of Fire is much better than Transiberian Orchestra. On their album Triumph or agony, they used an entire 70 piece orchestra. On that album, ALL of the classical parts were theirs written by Luca and Alex. They are the ones who put this type of metal on the map. Their first demo land of immortals was out a year before nightwish formed.

    @ubelstesje Yea I was aware that Slave Music led to Jazz and Blues, and the conjunction of mainly those two is what led to Rock n' Roll, Rock, Heavy Metal, Funk, R&B Soul and so on. I don't hate Rap, in fact I'm a fan of most old rap groups and artists, like Public Enemy, Run DMC of course, NWA, Yound MC, Tupac Shakur, etc. However, notice how I stated that Rap "has become" generalizations, not that it "is" "was" or "will be."

    @ubelstesje Anyway, what defines a good classical musician, is how they catch the soul of the song using immutable instruments. In rock, to get the soul of the song you can use 1000+ different guitars and 10000+ different effects. Things like dynamics is usually ignored by rock musicians.

    @ubelstesje Yea i completely understand what you mean about classical being born on paper, but there's something about its sound that stirs something inside me that is overwhelming. You weren't hating around it's all cool, that's why the world is rich with diversity because we all share such different tastes and views, we are all entitled to our own likes. Have a Wonderful Day.

    And you missed some important parts, like 'Legendary Tales' or 'Forest of Unicorn' with folklorical influence, the beginning of 'Eternal Glory' and it's back in 'The Mighty Ride of the Firelord', the dark 'In Tenebris', and 'Deadly Omen'. I have to say that you're right enough with the album 'Legendary Tales'.

    @ubelstesje Notice how i didn't ramble about how it takes no skill to rap, instead i appreciate all music and all music has some sort of talent to be had to produce it. However i have a special affinity to Classical, Jazz, Blues, and Heavy Metal, and i'll be lying if i tell you that it doesn't enrage me that rap gets all the popularity in the world, whilst there are other musical genres out there that have a lot to offer. I hate that fact and i admit it, which it doesn't mean that i hate rap.

    @ubelstesje well I don't have time to read your whole discussion, but classical music isn't only based on paper. Especially in romantism. I guarantee you that, for example, how chopin is played today was the result of passing information between different generations of teachers. The only thing you respect in a chopin's piece is the notes.

    Also, Luca Turilli was playing this music back in the early 80's nearly 20 years before he formed the band. He is the one who started this type of metal. Transiberian Orchestra is a progressive rock band from America. They use what, a couple of violins and the rest guitars like in Nutrocker? Listen to their song night castle. Does that guy have an operatic voice like Fabio Lione? Come on man! I'm not taking anything away from them, but they are nowhere near Rhapsody Of Fire's Level!

    @MrAlstair123 i dont think that you can symbolise all contures of sound on paper. therefor it is head music. the combination of blues rooted metal and classical music just sounds weird to me. i just dont feel it. i don't think that a guitar should be led by counterpoint. apreciate your comments though, i didn't mean to hate around

  • @fx33399
    @fx33399 14 років тому

    2) I think you missed some important parts (though I know it's hard to make a good summary of this) and important information, like about different periods of music: Renaissance, Baroque, Classic, Romanticism, etc. Example, the first part of 'The Dark Tower of Abyss' is an imitation of Bach, and the second is of Vivaldi, (and 'Power of Raging Winds' is a copy of Vivaldi's wInter concert), but Symphony of Enchanted Lands are Romanticism brasses. And

  • @ubelstesje
    @ubelstesje 13 років тому

    @MrAlstair123 yeah i agree with a lot of your points, rap is in fact a shadow of its own. but through my studies (not privat, i mean university) i have always had the impression that the greatest composers were too concerned about the rules of counterpoint, instead of just playing. wagner for instance just played around on the piano when he found the famous tristan-chord. to me classical music is stil too much mathematics. the reason for that is, that the classical music was born on paper

  • @MrAlstair123
    @MrAlstair123 13 років тому

    @ubelstesje As i said, i don't hate rap, but just like what happened to GLAM Metal of the late 80's, it has lost its roots, and gone too mainstream, too popular, and thus it has lost it's original fervor and in your face feel that it originally possessed. I personally love Jay-z's Death of Autotune b/c it barrages most rappers out there and how most have become sell outs and products of the music industry. As Jay-z says "Y'all T-Paining too much" meaning that Autotune has become standard in rap

  • @MrAlstair123
    @MrAlstair123 13 років тому

    @ubelstesje So what i'm saying is that Popular Rap and Hip-Hop nowadays is nothing but a shadow of it former self in the basis of content, lyrical skills, and message, again same as what happened with GLAM or Hair Metal in the 80's when all they would sing about was girls, cars, drugs, and money (sound familiar?)

  • @MrAlstair123
    @MrAlstair123 13 років тому

    @ubelstesje Just as there has been a decline in Classical there has been a decline in Blues as well, Jazz as well, and most soul music. What you hear nowadays are products formed by a massive Music Corporations and little music being created for the beauty of it and more of it being created for the love of money. You think Ice Cube, Ice T, or any of the popular rappers are real "gangsters" anymore? Of course not, now they're rolling in the benjamins and could care less about their roots.

    did this band change it's name to rhapsody of fire? i know a band called rhapsody of fire that used to be called rhapsody and sounds like this

  • @MrAlstair123
    @MrAlstair123 13 років тому

    @ubelstesje My question, how is rap better than this is directed at the masses as a question which asks, how is it that something as worn out as rap, and is generally accepted as better music than anything else played so much and so much more popular than such beautiful music as this. And i'll tell you why, because MTV and the mass media tells you that it is not very cool or popular of you to listen to stuff like Rhapsody of Fire, because it is not rap, and since it isn't, it is not cool.

    dark tower of abyss has awesome classical part.
    The manage to combine heavy guitar with classical music. I can't do this. Only classical with no metal influence

  • @ubelstesje
    @ubelstesje 13 років тому

    @MrAlstair123
    well, if you ask...
    rap doesn't imitate a music, of which you somehow still think, that it's worth more than popular music like rap. what you don't know is that classic is nearly dead for a reason. there was a time about 130 years ago, when the american slaves invented jazz and blues which led to r'n'b, r'n'r and over blues-rock and heavy metal to all other metal genres. the reason for the decrease of classic is the people realising the soul as the source of music. metal denies it

  • @MrAlstair123
    @MrAlstair123 13 років тому

    @ubelstesje I'll end this long response by saying once again that I love all music and do not fall in the childish discussions metal over rap or rap over metal, because in the end its all music, and music is an appeaser of the soul not a conflicting agent. It saddens me that you say that Classical has declined because people have found the soul as a source of music because Classical does require soul, and I'm pretty sure a lot of it.

  • @MrAlstair123
    @MrAlstair123 13 років тому

    @ubelstesje Now, pertaining to your claim that Classical was replaced by music that actually has soul is sort of ridiculous. First, you cannot know for a fact that to create Classical music it didn't require soul, i highly doubt it as all folk music that is created has some sort of heart and soul put into it. Second, Classical just like R&B Soul or the Blues, can fill the inner void with pleasant tunes and originate deep in the soul, whether from a dark or light place.

    @ubelstesje To put it bluntly, it is my opinion that "Today's" rap sucks, and i stand firmly and strongly behind that position, trying to argue and insult me and my musical taste will get you nowhere (at least with me) because i know that in the end it is all a matter of opinion, mine happens to be that modern rap is a catchy beat that sticks for 30 minutes and then you're over it, whereas i think that tremendous classics like Vivaldi's the Four Seasons are masterpieces that last centuries.
