NAD took a refreshing approach when designing the 5120 turntable in 1983, using a lightweight flat tone arm that, combined with a clever platter platform design, brought superb vibration control to dampen unwanted resonances.

The manufacturer of this record player is not NAD, but Tesla, a national enterprise in the former Czechoslovakia.
It was a Tesla turntable with a NAD badge and a floppy arm
Bring it back, what are you waiting for??
i think that's what theyre testing on us!
Amazingly well thought👍
Wow!
an excellent video about a great design . Also the way the platter is made of simple plastic, aluminium and rubber composite in 3 parts . No need for expensive cast allow platter. They still sound good, and are a great starter deck today. The motors sometimes get noisey and need a clean and relube, and you are good to go for another 40 years. I have several examples. Jiri went on to develop a very simple parallel tracking arm, which attempts to solve one of the greatest replay issues of tracking error
We still have one of these turntables. It never occurred to me to use multiple tonearms to make use of different cartridges. Great idea! Also, I love the design esthetics of NAD gear. I had one of their cassette players but my son confiscated it a few years ago.
I’ll take one with a couple spare tonearms! Having bought a new c328 integrated amp, I am discovering a new appreciation for their history & products.
Dear NAD- re-release the 5120 again in red, black or white. It would look sweet and sound great too.
I rescued one of these from the trash about a year ago. All cables had been cut, one of the hinges was rusty and wet, and something was stuck to the top of the plinth. I spent a fair amount of time cleaning it, soldered on some new cables, filled the tonearm reservoir, and installed a new cartridge. For such a simple turntable, it sounds great and the flat tonearm is a neat conversation piece.
What a well thought out design not crazy about the look but it’s growing on me after watching that clip
Could anyone let me know the model number and function of the white NAD unit with the two black VU meters at 0:06 in the beginning images? It’s stunning!

Love mine. It's amazing.
Yess
Guess you would also need to sell a flat tonearm storage case for any extras. It's obviously a unique looking deck but not sure I like the side 'rails' sticking up. He admits it was a style chosen simply to reduce the cost of manufacturing a full dustcover.
The bent arcylic dust cover is a brilliant bit of design. I never realised the 5120 had a sprung chassis.
