This works even on a TV with only one button.
Click the power button. When the menu pops up, scroll to volume + and press once. Wait for the menu to disappear. Press and hold the button in until the TV switches to 'Standard Mode'.

Update: I selected source on my remote and then picked Satellite STB. That temporarily eliminated the banners. I just have to do this every time I turn on my TV.
