I did this mod and I am very happy with the result. I had an old SD-1, Black Label, Made in Taiwan. Some mods were done to my pedal before I bought it. Arthur of Guitar Nerd helped me understanding which mods were done to it, keep what was good, and coached me for the Super Duper mod. When done with the mod I tested it on a Fender Deluxe Reverb 65 RI and compared it do a Marshall clone 18watt with a JCM800 style preamp section. I was very pleased with the result. This will be my go-to pedal when I need to recreate my sound using an amp with a lot of headroom, like Fender style amps.

    That is actually remarkably better…

You dont remove C6? I found that alone made quite a difference. But I've done similar gain and bass mods that you did. Nice vids!

@@kungpow79 no I don’t like to remove C6 because it changed the feel and the top end is slightly harsh. Closer to sizzle than crunch

With the 3pdt you can get rid of all the component for the switching, they just are in the middle of the signal, the pedal will sound better without any mod, but is just a bit more complicated, after that you can use a true bypass module and the pedal will continue using the flip flop switching

@@upreydeen well I removed the transistors that power the switching system and jumpered the signal to be direct. There’s no need to remove all the other components from the switching system as they’re not in use anymore.
True bypass will only have a slight impact on the pedals sound, the real magic is the capacitors to give better bass, the resistors to give more dynamic & gain, and the LED diode to power & clarity.

Great video. Could you explain what each of the components you change does to the sound? For example, what changing the resistor values does and how the sound is affected.

.1uF caps improve the bass response.
      2.4K resistor increases gain.
      Red LED increases gain.
620k resistor & 1uF improves the audio fidelity.

@@ArtoriusGuitarNerd thanks! I’m trying to learn this stuff. It’s amazing to see how a few components can make a real difference.

@@GuitarDudeOfficial one thing that’s doesn’t translate is the “feel” of the pedal. Sometimes there’s a big difference in the feel but has a subtle impact on the sound.

C7 and C10 are electrolytic capacitors?..you didn't mention polarity when inserting substitute capacitors? Film capacitors don't have polarity I Googled. I'm always learning 😅

@@JonDoe-wb1qo you would put them back the exact same polarity as before.

how do you figure out/know what transistors to remove. Am currently trying to convert my ODB-3 to true bypass.

I fallowed the schematic to see what was the overdrive circuit and what was the switching circuit.
