@@wakeupandlive3386 Great job! Have a good weekend! Check out my Lionfish spearing UA-cam videos when you get a chance. Tell me if you like them. I subscribed to you so you know.
That was what I would consider an epic day. Two Pelagics and a nice kali, what more could you ask for? Wait, a nice plug in like new condition! Lucky day. Every roi you shot in the bonus footage was a big one. Good on ya for getting them off of the reef.
Jayyyo Dakillah This is usually a hard one because I can’t just tell you to get a certain one, because everyone will shoot differently. So if you get the opportunity to try out different guns then that would be best. But I can say that you need to get one that feels comfortable for you to hold and move around. If right off the bat it’s not then you’re definitely not gona enjoy shooting it and probably won’t be able to shoot it well. I have owned Aimrite’s, Omer’s, Hammerhead, Riffe, and KAP guns. They all were good, but most didn’t shoot how I wanted them to shoot. I now shoot a Salvimar and it’s pretty close to what I want. So like I said it’s about finding the gun that works for you.
LOL Mahi Mahi go nuts, got to treat them with respect. They will wrap you up tighter than an Egyptian mummy! They will always try to wrap around something to bust off. Great video, nice Ono, Love your videos! Any tips on how to get subs and more views on videos?
dstick1 yeah, I wasn’t thinking anything because usually smaller fish like that don’t cause problems 😅 but forgetting that I’m shooting a pelagic and not a calmer reef species. Definitely gotta be more careful next time around 👍🏼 thanks, glad you enjoyed 🤙🏼 and I really don’t know, I mean I post it on my Instagram but that’s all I really do. Part of it is luck I guess 😅 I think I’m also very fortunate to have a lot of local supporters, Hawaii people love to support each other 🙌🏼🤙🏼
Denison Photography Yeah, doing any breath holds on land or breath up’s is a little different in the water. I guess the goal is to get the same comfort in the water. But honestly the best thing for free diving is to consistently go. Practice breathing up through the snorkel, practice your duck dive, your finning technique and most important learn to relax your whole body 🤙🏼
Good footage ma brada, I like how you versatile. You go shallow and blue water. Good shit good shit and hope you keep the content rolling in. Cannot wait till dumb ass Ige them lift the quarantine. V P I’m gona guess around 15 ft from the tip of the spear, it definitely seems closer when you’re taking the shot but if you watch people shoot from above you can actually see how far some shots actually are 👌🏼 and in blue water it’s even more difficult to judge distance, so for me it’s usually get closer then I think I need to

I was commercial fishing down there and all of the most remote areas of the island for 25 years? Starting in the late 70's. In the early 80's, I got the 9th Force 30 out of the mold and had my dream boat built. Flybridge, diesel engine with straight shaft set up and choke fish holds, plus a huge Ike ma for live opelu etc. No one was really diving down there back then, and blue water wasn't really a thing yet. I used to dive some ulua houses along with a couple other guys I knew. One guy was a real legend commercial spearfiherman, his name was Frank Ota. He was featured on the cover of Hawaii fishing news, cause he had speared so many 100 plus lb. Big ulua's!! Then my friend Bruce Ayau, same thing, just a world class freedive spearfiherman! I grew up with the Ayau family on Oahu, but Henry Ayau the father was a legendary Hawaiian waterman and freedive spearfiherman from Molokai, where I used to dive all the time! On Molokai, the Naki Brothers, were some of the real heavy bruddahs for diving too! I was blessed to learn from Dennis Okada who was one of Hawaii's best and then my friend Wendell Ko who is one of the best freedive spearfiherman from Hawaii and a world champion!!! Just malama the Aina and kokua what is so special and respect to the guys who were enjoying those areas long before you and laid the foundation that became what freedive spearfishing is today!!!! I spent about 80+% of most years out at sea on my boat commercial fishing, lots of trolling and palu ahi and ika shibi fishing, plus bottom fishing before the big stino porpoise showed up and started stealing our paka and onaga, running it! I always went on 4-5 day and night long trips fishing all over the island especially in the really rough water areas exposed to the strong trade winds. I lived up mauka in kona and launched out of Honokohau harbor. Kau is one of my favorite places and of course puna and Hilo and more. I'm truly blessed, that I got to realize my dream and enjoyed fishing in places where I wouldn't see another boat or person on the shoreline for 4 days before I would make the long journey back to kona!!! Now with go pros and all the diving is getting heavily exploited and that's just how it is, but for the born and raised locals, we just need to take care and be careful when you edit your videos and try not to show land marks or simply blur them out!!! Outer island people have traditionally been very protective of their places they fish and dive A lot of us made our living from the ocean like myself. I was able to buy land build a nice house and support my family completely through commercial fishing, and most often I fished alone even though I had a big boat!!! I loved it and the challenge of doing it by myself!!! There were always really heavy guys that did this, but it's extremely dangerous and you have to really be an expert and true waterman to do it!!!! Brings back a lot of good memories for me? Cause that area, actually outside of it was where I probably fished the most, but it's usually so rough with huge seas it's only for the most experienced fisherman with boats like raddons and the Force boats like mine. The big gorilla ahi fishing is amazing when they are around, and a long time ago they used to run there around Christmas every year when they were nowhere else in the islands!!!!! Still happens sometimes!!! Enjoy you guys and just be careful of such special places. Back in the old days down there you had to be one of the boys, a "tiger bully" we'd say. Otherwise you would be told to go home!! It was fiecly protected!!! Ika shibi fishing off Pohoiki back then was "wild west"!!!! Guys would literally shoot high powered rifles at boats who tried to sneak out in the last few hours before sunrise and throw their chute behind or too close to a boat that had been out all night, and try to "steal thier palu trail". @user-ps3rb9yc8x Mahalo for sharing your story. I’m sure you’ve seen the decline of fishing/diving grounds throughout the years. With social media being so prevalent, more so in the past 5 years. I’ve seen spots get more and more crowded. I made the mistake of making videos and pictures that show spots, thinking that everyone else is doing it so it doesn’t really matter. But I realized that I was just helping the problem with the excuse of everyone is doing it. Nothing will change with that mindset, so I try my best now days to not show spots when I can. Another mistaken thought I had was, I dive really common spots, so it didn’t matter if I showed it, but just because the spot is common doesn’t mean anyone should blow it up more. I’ve learned, grown and changed a lot since making videos and posts. While I may fail from time to time, I’ll continue to do my best respecting as much as I can while still moving forward with the changing times. Mahalo for your words, stay safe, god bless! Aloha!
