You wish 😆 I knew a bunch of home schooled kids and they were the most confused individuals I'd ever met. They were clueless about science and were taught religion as their science and history lessons. They also had no clue how to think logically because everything was from the "magical sky man" 🤣 They were also more racist and less socially skilled.
One of my proudest moments as a mom happened when my son went to public school for the first time in 5th grade because I needed to go to work part-time. Before that, he was homeschooled and private schooled. After two days at the public school, he came home wanting to talk. My mother in law was there too. He said, "Please don't make me go back there ever again." Mother in law said, "You are absolutely going back, that is a fine school." He looked at me with tears in his eyes and said, "It's a prison mom, please, don't make me go." I looked at him square in the eye and said, "Okay, you are NEVER going back there. We will figure out another way." He was so happy. We got him in a homeschool co-op where other parents were willing to help me out so I could work. Mother in law was plenty mad for awhile. We bucked her on college too, because he didn't want to go. She said, "You have to go, you have no choice; it's what everyone does." Instead, he studied what he was interested in (while working minimum wage). Today he is a professional Surveyor where he gets to be out of doors, he is debt free, and he and his wife are co-op homeschooling their daughter -- she was reading at four, and is having terrific adventures. Yay for homeschooling parents; it used to be that going to school was a privilege, now being homeschooled is a privilege.

@lindseyfranks3150 do it and don't look back! It is worth the sacrifice. Best thing we did when my oldest was in 8th, now she is almost done with Lab Tech program after she discerned she wanted to do that over the nursing path she initially started. It is the best for all of us, even when it is tough!
Absolutely go for homeschooling. Do not let anyone intimidate you out of it. We home schooled our children for 17 years and each of them went to college and excelled after graduating from homeschool. Now my daughter is homeschooling her own children. And that was 20 years ago that we homeschooled our children. I would do it again in a heartbeat. And today it's even more important to homeschool your children because the horrific influences in the schools are a serious danger to our children and the family. On top of that the resources for homeschoolers now are so much more abundant, the possibilities for you are endless. Find some other homeschoolers out there and talk to them, get encouragement from them, and hang out with them. It's a great way to go.
Also do not allow anybody to intimidate you into feeling like your children have to go to college. These days there are so many more opportunities for skilled positions that are so necessary in our society and do not require a college education. College has become a business and a propaganda machine unfortunately. One of the beauties of homeschooling is that you are able to allow your children to follow their own bent, their own interests and even tailor their education to fit and further their interests before they need to go out into the world.

I was homeschooled until age 17 and went on to graduate college in three years with highest honors. My siblings and I are happily married to our spouses, own our own homes, have had jobs and provided for ourselves since we were 18, and are looking forward to retirement in a decade or so after carefully planning for our future. Homeschooling (when done properly) prepares kids well for life.

I have been a history professor for over 25 years, best students I have had were homeschooled. They are better prepared, more eager to learn and are much better at communicating with others. I have been so impressed I started to share all my lectures as a free resource to help homeschooling families.

I was homeschooled by my mom. My dad was against it the entire way. Up until I scored in the 97th percentile on my SAT.
I was homeschooled. Not only did I graduate from HS early at 16 and start community college (didnt want to transfer to university til I was 18), but at 17 got it in my head I wanted to join the Air Force and scored an 89 on my asvab. My mom was dedicated. If you are a dedicated mom you can give your kids a vetter education and life! My mom did so much stuff with us growing up. Constantly going to museums, aquariums, the zoo, farms, the orchards, construction sites, police departments, etc. She would call ahead and coordinate so we could meet workers and ask questions. We met trash truck drivers, police, fire fighters, zoo keepers, doctors, nurses, quarry men, framers, (the blue collar workers always thought it was neat to be "interviewed").
It gave us a greater appreciation for how the world works, how things actually are made, and the people who make it happen.
I promote homeschooling!

Home School Kids learn social interaction from adults.
Public School Kids learn social interaction from other kids, who don't know how to be adults.
Home school kids are allowed outside to socialise and probably more so than school kids who have homework or computer games.
Home schooled kids parents usally won't want their kids not socialising if they are investing so much time in their kids futures.
The big problem with modern schools in this regard is the age segregation -- it's one of the single most harmful things done to children. Instead of looking up to those youth older than you, you are taught to fear and avoid them. Kids are taught to only play with and speak to same-grade pupils.

I worked for many years at an historical site teaching kids about life in colonial America. I could always tell the home schooled children from the quality of their questions, their articulation when asking those questions and their knowledge of American history. You guys nailed it once again.
I volunteer at a nearby national park. We can always tell the homeschoolers just by their conduct. They're considerate and respectful, and civil.
Last spring, the park had four busses arrive... unexpected and unannounced... from a neighboring county school. The kids were like uncaged animals! One of the rangers' had his hat stolen, a gate on a main trail was broken, trying to conduct any semblance of a tour was a joke, other visitors felt unsafe and left the visitors center... and the restrooms had to be jet sprayed with disinfectant and heavy duty cleaner afterward.
The park superintendent not only wrote a letter to the teacher and principal about the student conduct & lack of control, but she also made clear the school was no longer welcome to the park as a school group. Best of all, she called the school district superintendent with the same report.
And to top it off, I'm a retired middle school teacher myself. Sooo much has changed since I retired in 2007... from the kids, the administration, the state mandates, and federal government meddling... homeschool if ya' can.
My homeschooled kids LOVED going to historical sites, hiking in National Parks, watching deer, elk, grizzly and polar bears up close in the field (Dad is a wildlife photographer), and going to meet our clients in their church clothes, shaking hands and being polite - the whole socialization bit, even before high school grades! (In high school, we took them to South Korea on our working holiday!!)

My wife and I are teachers for a home-schooled group of kids in a coop. I spent 28yrs as an Army Infantry officer. My degrees are in history. I teach geography, history, the Constitution, and Government. My wife, a retired public school elementary music teacher for 27yrs, teaches choir, piano, and English. I also am a lifelong jazz brass player, so I have two trumpet and 1 trombone students. All the students learn map reading, using a compass, know all the terrain features on military maps, and understand the value of paper maps in a grid down scenario. These kids ARE smart. They all read way above public school grade levels. Here is the really nice part. They can write! Their papers are very good. They cite their sources correctly. My wife and I are having fun. There are many different ways to get home schooling. The coop is made up of working class, two income earners. The cadre of teachers are retired people like myself. Trust me, we do not do it for the money. I want the kids to be empowered with knowledge. We need more "thinkers" in America and fewer zombies.
So great here. When the SHTF you, your wife, and those kids and others you may have taught in the past will have a significant high chance of being survivors.
@@survivingbehindliberallines That was our thinking. The concept of a Renaissance man in education is important. Why can't kids or adults be accomplished in many different fields? If possible, I say yes. The arts, sciences, history, classics. Build your own community. Neighbors, friends, family, looking out for, protecting, teaching, and yes, we can weather storms. This called mutual support in the military. A unit on offense usually has at least one unit to the left or right providing support, if it is needed. For some fun reading, study the tenants of war. Take those same tenants and apply them to everyday life. You will be ahead of your peers. Works in business as well.

Im homeschooled, and last year we learned everything there is to know about maps, then at the end of the year we went on a hike using only our maps and compasses.

Strangely enough, my daughter who happens to be homeschooled, graduated a full year ahead of schedule. She's now getting A's in college. Including in such courses and calculus 2 and advanced organic chemistry. Her calc teacher wrote in a recommendation letter that she is one of the best students he has ever taught.

Yes, my kids were able to participate in HS sports. My daughter was going for UND hockey. She was very good. UND cancelled their women's program before she graduated. The USA olympic team recruited players from that team. Very sad day.@@mofimTV

I worked for a local school district, and whenever I met kids that had been previously homeschooled I was amazed at how they could carry on a conversation like an adult.
One of our kids decided to do grade 11+12 in public school. He had many things to say about the difference but the one thing that stood out was, “The teachers spend most of their time being police officers. Not much lesson going on.” God, protect our ability to have the home education choice in our land.

As a part time middle school substitute teacher I can confirm this statement. Fortunately for me where I fill in it is more about just trying to keep them quiet so you can get through the lesson. I would guess there is only about 10-15 minutes of quality time spent on the lesson.

My kids wish they could have attended public school… their idealized version of it, anyway. They have never met a public school kid who didn’t envy them, intensely, for the fact that they didn’t have to “go to school.” When they were little, I let them have snow days to match the school system, but even then the public school kids didn’t play outside 😢

I’m 33 now but my mom homeschooled me and my 3 brothers k-12. I have the best memories as a kid! I didn’t know what style was until I was in college. I was allowed to just be a kid. We went to museums, the zoo, trips during the school year. It was the best. I loved the experience and wouldn’t have traded it for public school. Especially because all my friends were in public school and they would share horror stories with me.
Seriously though, the only weird homeschool kids I've ever met are because their parents are weird. But public school kids are weird because its a state requirement for graduation.

So when I decided to go to my zoned school's prom in my senior year, I was extremely disappointed to find out it was NOTHING like school dances on TV. 😭 Girls do not sit in chairs along the side, and boys do not come ask random girls to dance. And 16 years later, when I was training to be a teacher, I had to work for a semester in public high school. Boy, I have never heard so many curse words from kids' mouths in my entire life!

I was home schooled until highschool, so glad I went because it was super fun for me, but I didn't learn a damn thing and my grades reflected that in majority of my classes, history and computer science was fun though

Homeschooled all four of ours, and no one could tell they were homeschooled. I made sure they interacted with everyone and were polite and sociable. They are all happy, successful adults today, and I love being around them.

Eh, sort of. If you have a baseline of normal, there are numerous different ways to be weird. Pretty much everyone is abnormal in some way, just not the same way. One guy is mostly normal, but he absolutely has to get up at 5am and go run a couple of miles. One girl is mostly normal, but she reads 3 books every week. Public school kids pretend to be cats and pee in litter boxes. Home schooled kids learn responsibility for their pets and clean the litter box the family cat uses.

I took my daughter for a tour of the local fire station last week and all the firefighters' kids were also homeschooled.
i homeschooled my 3 sons till 9th grade. i was so blessed to give them a childhood! we did school work from 9-noon and they were done for the day. they played and read the rest of the day. they had a few chores around the house like dishwasher duty, sweep or vacuum duty, take out the trash… all in all they had a real childhood! all 3 have their own family’s now, only one homeschools his 5 kids but all of them are great husbands, and wonderful fathers.

@@bartholomewhalliburton9854 So many ways your kids can be socialized in a positive way instead of being stuck constantly with kids that are tiktok addicts. Its being proactive as a parent to make sure to put in the effort to do so. Communities have a lot of activities available and you can reach out to people that have your same thoughts. Being open to chatting with the moms and dads at their activities and not being afraid to try to connect. You would be surprised how many ways kids can connect.

Home schooled kids graduate high school early and actually know how to read, write, and do advanced math. Also they can discern right from wrong, good from evil, and friend from foe.

I was homeschooled for only three years, 3rd-5th, and I was reading at a highschool level and doing algebra by 6th grade. Knocked it out of the park. Turns out when your teacher is your parent, they have way more incentive to make sure you are actually learning something.

"Two hours of lessons stretched into a full day" summarises my experience as a high IQ kid in a concerted (halfway between private and public school) so well.
I'd take novels to read in class under the desk after I got my work done or while the teacher was explaining concepts I'd already mastered. Or I'd be reading chapter eight in the history book while the class was covering chapter two.
I remember a teacher got mad because I was drawing while listening to his monologue about the day's subject, thinking I wasn't paying attention. He adked me to repeat what he had just said, and I just belted out the whole thing fro. the start, word for word, all five minutes of it. I then explained the drawing helped me from becoming distracted and lost in my own thoughts.
As someone with pretty extreme ADHD, autism, and sensory issues -- I can relate!
I spent at least 30% of my school time drawing. I find it easier to listen to people I'm not looking at, looking at people's faces/eyes is a huge distraction!
I knitted in university classes for the same reason. And when the semester was over, I actually had something to show for it!

Loved my 7th grade math class when I was in public school (in the 1970's, before homeschooling was legal). The classroom was across the hall from the school library, so my teacher let me go there after I'd finished with that day's work. So glad when my high school started allowing students to take less classes, so we could leave to go to our jobs. Because it only took 3 years to get enough credits, but 4 years were required to graduate. I took lots of literature and art classes to fill up my schedule. At least in those, I could do all my assignments in class, which made it easy to work full-time. But as a homeschool mom, my kids got to run downstairs and play with their Legos and other toys, during short breaks. After the other school work was done for the day, they frequently ask if I could read more of the history book we were using. (They were usually library books, so I read aloud to all of them.)

Here's a difference: homeschool kids are only bullied by their brothers or sisters. Public school kids are bullied by fellow students.
My wife was homeschooled and took college courses at age 14. Graduated high school at 16. I was in public school and squeaked by high school just three months before I turned 18.

Sad truth that nobody truly "owns" their property in that sense. The best bet is living somewhere with really low property taxes and a low cost of living. It doesn't hurt if the school system is horrible either because those areas tend to have little to no home schooling restrictions.

This not a good set up. Kids should be at home with their parents that won't have 20 - 30 kids to manage and who would love and care for them far more than a teacher. People get excited when they hear about a low student to teacher ratio in a school. What about homeschooling, where that is automatically true.
Public school kids are raised by other kids
Teachers have 6-10 years of child focused education and children of their own. Parents have no education and think Fox News is a Reputable News source.

The best teachers I had were the ones that paid genuine attention to me and were encouraging. I think loving parents can definitely fill that role. I agree that involved parents should be the first and primary teacher.
It's really exciting to learn how to read and write, etc., but I think many children dislike school after the early grades (4th grade on). At least that was the experience of myself and my peers. Personally I would have loved to have been home schooled.
And this is why I'm homeschooled, also i don't want to wear shoes all day

As a veteran homeschool mom, I can absolutely agree with this. Shoes only go on our feet when we leave the house.

I was a judge and later judge captain at one of the regional National History Day competitions for about 10 years.
I can tell you that our best entries were from parochial and home -schooled students. During the judges interview, their ease in communication while discussing their project with adults was more than evident.

Public schooling teaches you good social skills. Such as saying "Oh my god, you were homeschooled? But you seem so normal! Do you have a bunch of anxiety or social issues?" to someone you just met is polite, reasonable and acceptable.
Funny that. It was secondary public school that has taught me how to be an effective asshole. Surprisingly valuable lesson, comes in handy when you're dealing with other assholes.

Not really. Doesn’t jive with introverts. Introverts hate being around crowds since it gives them social anxiety. Public school is top tier for stress and anxiety for anyone that has a perfectionist personality. Will flip out on Grading scale is not perfect and make a scene in whole classroom. (Kid on the ADHD spectrum)

Those type of kids are best to be homeschooled where parents can handle the kid. Teachers can’t cope with behaviors, let alone deal with over 30 sum students in a class when some students need more attention than others.

I’m a Media teacher at a public school. Thankfully, almost every teacher and administrator is a Christian. 🙌🏼 We receive the Brave Books, and I read them to the kids. We are also having their book fair this spring! Bye bye scholastic!!
As a parent who supports his wife homeschooling (and also teaches math after work) I can confirm the benefits of homeschooling. When there’s no agenda other than learning things, the 2 hours of information spread out over 8 hours in public school is hilarious because it’s true!
You get 2 hours of info on a good day in public school, most of it false.
Homeschool kids: encouraged to build flying RC aircraft from scratch.
Public School Kids: gets into trouble for building a single paper plane.
Our 6 year old homeschooled son, took apart his RC car, and put it back together - and it ran! Paper airplanes were part of our school day - it's a science activity. Thank goodness our open floor plan makes a good area for flying them.
public schools really do stretch out 2 hours of lessons into a full day and then send kids home with even more to do
I homeschool my youngest 2 (our oldest 3 went through the public school indoctrination camps) and we go to homeschool co-ops , of course there are always exceptions but for the most part I’m blown away at the difference between public school and homeschool children. This video is pretty spot on. The self confidence of the homeschooled children to me is apparent from not being at a public school where there is a much more prevalent spirit of anxiety, a spirit of confusion, a spirit of depression, competition and materialism.

In either situation you have to be an advocate for your children all the way through.
When I was homeschooled I had agriculture class. I took care of a ton of animals. The oldest one was my personal project. We went hunting for health. I read and memorized the ten amendments, constitution, and the Gettysburg address for history. I use a much larger vocabulary than most people, even in 5th grade. I feel horrible for the kids that this despicable education system has victimized for the sake of propaganda

As a kid who has been public schooled, I would be the first to criticize the public school system. However, this should inspire compassion rather than condescension for kids who haven't been given the opportunity of home school. These kids are not inferior, just inferiorly educated. I hope that homeschool and classical education continues to increase so more kids can receive a well rounded education, not just thirteen years of government daycare.

Yes. The drills are so scary and you never know for sure if it really is a drill. I'm so glad I'm homeschooled now so I don't have to go through that.
best decision ever. My wife and I homeschooled our 3 boys. First class was Jr college at age 15. Jr college degrees at age 17. Socialization was co- op, sports and church. Oldest is an ER Dr and two time collegiate D1 national champion in mountain biking. Middle son owns his own business and youngest is a Delta pilot. Kindest most confident men ever. Huge sacrifice and scary. So many resources available. Find your local homeschool group and ask questions. So much curriculum available. Good luck

I first read The Hobbit when I was 15. That was 47 years ago and I've read it and The Lord of the Rings many, many times since then. When our son was born there was no question that we would homeschool. He was assessed when he was four at being on level with 12 year olds in his speech and understanding, and he is also on the autism spectrum. When he was 7 I started reading Tolkien to him. He's 25 now and has explored the lore of Middle earth far beyond what I've ever done. It's been an incredible journey, one that I wouldn't trade for anything in the world. If she doesn't realize it already, your granddaughter will one day understand what a wonderful blessing she's being given!

My siblings and I went to public school but our parents denied us access to technology and the internet and other such distractions until jr high, so we grew up without the crippling social anxiety, depression, confusion over sexuality, etc while also getting the benefits of public school (i.e. being able to make lifelong friends and connect with others of our age group).
Reading was also a skill that was considered very important in our family, and while we weren’t reading War & Peace in 2nd grade, my siblings and i did (and still do) have some of the highest reading scores in our grades.
It’s not homeschooling or public schooling that makes the main difference, it’s the way the parents raise the kids.

Public School kids had to stay at home for two years and drive their parents crazy scheduling zoom calls and checking assignments. Then they had to wear masks at school. Home Schooled kids continued doing what they always did.

We homeschooled our kids up until high school. Thought the sports programs were a good option. Our kids tested 2 years above the public schoolers when they first went. It was a smaller town school so we didn’t have the gang and drug problems to deal with. Home schooling was a great thing for all of us.

As a public school teacher, the kinda accusations thrown at us for what we teach students are WILD. The satire here feels all too real.
My daughter went to public school at age 14...only because she had exceeded my capacity to teach her. She took a lot of college course credits IN high school, graduated 10th in the whole school, top 15 percent in the state/country, went on to get a biochemistry degree and landed a microbiology job right after graduation and is working towards med school.
Homeschooling: The adult/ parent has authority on what happens.
Public schools: The leaders of whatever gang is dominant in that particular school have authority on what happens, with the teachers and administrators too chicken to stand up to them out of fear of being either beaten up, stabbed, or (Worst of all to them) being openly accused of "Racial profiling" on social media.
Home schooled kids learn to socialize with all ages of children as well as adults and elderly people. Its amazing.
I taught my children at home, it was more like 4 hours a day, 4 days a week, the 5th day was catch up on anything and for field trips or Library day.

I was home schooled and took a whole day to do school work my sibling could do in 2 hours. But at least I wasn't put on psycho drugs because I was lazy and a procrastinator.

@@pintsizestories196 Maybe, ADD is a little ambiguous in it's definition. I can focus, just not well on things I don't have an interest in. Subjects that required a lot of memorization were harder. Felt like I was overloading my brain with more info then it could take in at once. (If I didn't have an interest.) Math I was good in since it was more active processing then memorization. Or maybe I just found it interesting.
It was tough seeing other people being able easily do things that I seemingly couldn't, but I could accept those limitations if it meant otherwise I'd have to take mind altering and potentially suicide inducing drugs to overcome them.
We homeschooled our four children. Three have graduated. I have two children who had similar learning as you've described. That was one of the blessings of being able to homeschool them. They could go at their own speed and we could adapt their schooling to their unique learning abilities.
Each child has their own strengths and weaknesses. Schooling might come hard but there are other areas where they shine. One is not better than the other😊
This is the reason I homeschooled initially. We could go at the pace of the child.

One time I went looking for my homeschooled five-year-old because he wasn't in his chair doing his kindergarten math workbook when all his siblings were doing their math. I found him on the couch reading "Chess for Dummies".
This is so relatable. I was homeschooled and grew up on a small farm of goats and chickens too. I actually don't mind being homeschooled.
As a home school mom, my kid has been at a college reading level since 4th grade and it DOES take about 2 hours to do what public school forgets to do: actual lessons.
I formulate my own curriculum based on the required subjects and various materials and books that I research.
Many home school moms resort to pre-planned online content...but that's just as lazy as sending to school if you ask me.

Personally I use a bit of both, I have an online curriculum that I use, but I alter it to fit my kids needs
Please kindly keep in mind that homeschooling 4th grade isn't anywhere near the same as middle school or highschool grades
I'm curious if you are teaching your child about the Lord and the Bible? I would say that that is the most important thing in the end. The purpose of the early US education system was to teach people to read so that they could read the Bible.
There is no shame in using curriculum that has already been organized, especially as a starting point. Most parents will discover more about a child's needs and interests as they go and add supplements.

Online courses are good for older children when the subject requires more depth and that takes more of professional to teach such as organic chemistry, advanced calculus, advanced physics, etc

Nothing like being forced by law to be in prison all day to be bullied and learn nothing of mportance. Granted not a chance my mom would've ever home schooled, sometimes it's a no win.
