Satisfactory is an FPS open-world factory building sim. You play as an engineer on an alien planet as part of the ‘Save The Day’ program - a program whose goal is to construct a massive machine for a mysterious purpose. Conquer nature, build multi-story factories, and automate to satisfaction! - Ігри
I love the developer highlights so much. You get insights of the people and of their work (and sometimes their creepy quirks - hi Simon). For me, I can appreciate your creations "better" because it's not "just" a developer studio name but actual people we see. Please continue with that
This game has one of the most responsive UI. The sound designs and the visual reaction to your inputs is super great!
"A computer"
10/10 would work for this company. On a serious note though, I love how casual and close knit the studio is.
they have a damn beer rack
I know right!?
I'm a year late, but I absolutly adore how "manual" the UI feels. Like, you have to acutally pull a breaker to restart your powor or pull big heavy leavers to open Drop pods and activate the space elevators. There's just so much manual action and the buttons feel heavy and industrial.
Fantastic work! Keep it up guys, it's always nice to see devs working hard and keeping the community in the loop.
"I help Jace out every now and then" ...
You really had to put this in every developer highlight, right? :D
Jenus358 Whatcha doin‘ here?

"That's really gay" Haha
Well yeah. They both ping my gaydar.
@@antediluvianatheist5262 all 3 should xD
@@CoffeeStainStudios Not getting much of a signal off of Natalie.
My gaydar might need tuning... to make it *Satisfactory.*
Badum-tsh.
@@antediluvianatheist5262 I.....I....oh take the thumbs up and I'll just go.
@@CoffeeStainStudios ALL 3 YOU SAY? would one of said people accept favours for ALPHA KEYS???? ILL DO SOME SHIT MAN!!
I saw an oil pump and refinery, PIPES CONFIRMED!
Look the older videos. they told there will be pipes.
You actually just transport the oil in barrels, if you look close in the belt speed video you can see them
this comment aged super well
UI/UX design is often underrated; sometimes overlooked. When you breeze through a nice menu on your smartphone, website, or a desktop app, someone (or a design team) had to create and refine it. I have to say all the UI elements for Satisfactory are spot on. It fits so well with the industrial / manufacturing look and feel of the game.
Isn't Nathalie a little too young to be working yet? I mean she's still fourteen afterall. She started playing Runescape five years ago when she was nine. 5:23
As long as they keep her hours low, she'll be fine.
I guess you can work starting at 14 in some countries
In Sweden you can work as long the hours are not too high and you have passed 9th grade, and there isn't heavy carrying involved. That's as far as I know.
Seriously? She looks like she’s in her 20’s
She’s got five years of ‘gaming’ experience and you say she’s not qualified?!
There isn’t enough content out there for game UI / UX! Please keep this up and check in again!!!
I agree UI is very important for my experience! Great video can't wait to play!
Yep. I'm a legally blind programmer and gamer...thanks Nathalie for letting ppl know we love games too
this UI is one of the best and intuitive ive ever used! KUDOS for the great work!
2:01 there are 60 Simons, put 59 in to the trash bin :D
The more Simons, the higher chance he'll (they'll?) delete alpha keys... so I say we trash all 60.
Great video!!! ... already seeing some bits I will have to pick apart....
Awesome. Whats the difference between CSS and other studios? CSS has a lively bunch of unique characters working to make great games and other game studios are mindless corporate cash grabbers? Nope most game studios are like this... the former, not the later. The thing that makes CSS unique is stuff like this. Jace, you are doing a great job bringing across the unique and amazing personality that exists at CSS. Keep it up! CSS keep being the unique and colorful bunch you all are.
This is why less and less people buy AAA games.
They are too safe, too bland, too 'appeal to a wide audience.'
Reminds me of the amount of people who yell at Bungie, they might be clueless sometimes when it comes to player expectations, but from everything I've seen they're all nice people.
THANK YOU for remembering to design the UI with colorblind people in mind!
Thank you for this video, its inspirational as a coder myself I want to get more into user experience and this was an awesome video!
4:45 good one XD
I comletely agree with the UI being important, personally soundtrack and UI are one of the main things that keep me clued to games that i spend lot of time on
Happy you made this CSS
UI is massively underrated, and a poor UI can mean the difference between working towards an objective, or trudging through misery and pain towards an objective.
I'll pick ARK as an example. No matter how much the creators put into the models, or the lighting effects of their world, it means nothing when everything I look at is bright colourful Calibri font in a survival game where I start of with primitive stone weapons. It's a serious disconnect between the player and the world and ruins the whole experience.
So it makes me happy to see that CSS is showing that they care about the user experience by making Developer Highlights about what may at first seem unimportant or minor.
Thank you
2:31 LOL DUDE I LOVE COFFE STAIN SO MUCH
Its the best company I cant believe I just found them
Hahaha love this update 😂. Especially the ending. Can't wait to try it out. Houdoe, greets from the Netherlands
Ребята! Отличная игра) И особенно круто когда ты видишь игру не только как готовый продукт, но и людей что стоят за ней! Great job!
Moreso a question for Nathelie, or anyone else in the comments who knows their stuff. What resources would you recommend for learning ui/ux design. I'm really interested in the field but have found it difficult to find resources to help me learn. Any feedback would be amazing!!!!!
Hi! For starters my advice would be to look at UI/UX in games and analyse them, what do you think is good, what do you think is bad? This will help you get your thought process going in the UI that you design yourself.
Another tip is to go to events as a visitor or volunteer, I volunteered at a lot of events in University and it's an awesome way to gain knowledge and make friends. Find people in the industry to talk with, either as mentors or as peers. Also, finding designers that you like and following their social media or their blogs. It gives a good insight in how they work and why they work that way. :)
Other than that, here are a bunch of websites I refer to during work:
wearecolorblind.com/
www.color-blindness.com/coblis-color-blindness-simulator/
ilikeinterfaces.com/
www.nngroup.com/articles/
ua-cam.com/users/therevuivideos
Also, reading dev blogs on Gamasutra and Kotaku or watching talks from GDC/UX Summit is very helpful.
Here's three talks that I can definitely recommend:
ua-cam.com/video/axkPXCNjOh8/v-deo.html
ua-cam.com/video/BYzwoqezAjU/v-deo.html
ua-cam.com/video/o5MNDZ7EAdA/v-deo.html
Game Jams are a great way as well to meet people in the industry and to rapidly increase your skills. I made a bunch of shitty games at game jams but they did help me a lot with figuring things out fast, with rapid prototyping and gaining confidence in my skills. :)
Hope that helps!
-Nat
Nice to see someone at Coffee Stain from Holland! GOOD JOB!;) ENNN VOLGENS MIJ UIT BRABANT!?! KEI GAAF!!:D
I remember you putting the little pieces of paper on the tv :'). I remember me screaming about wolves coming as well ... Trots op jou
I like that you have blossa glögg in the background even tho its January xd
"If your UI is bad your whole experience becomes bad"
LOUDER FOR THE DEVS IN THE BACK
5:07 "houdoe"
Is she Dutch(Nederlands)?
She's most probably "Brabants". That's a southern province of The Netherlands and the only one that uses that word for saying goodbye.
Just wonder, How many applied for alpha key? not saying i not have one or if i got one.. but so many thousands of keys given already.. when does the number given match the applied :)
Love Love Love
Can you create modifications of the game, write mods for it? And when the game is already out, can you roughly assign a date?
How can I get a Alpha key?
Always nice to see a dutch ui designer :')
The whole corporate characters thing and design of the buildings gives it a very hyperion from borderlands feel, which is a good thing!
Yeah Borderlands didn't do enough with its world design. There was a bit more depth in the Telltale game but that's it.
Awesome content!
I remember a Twitter image where you guys were wearing the same outfit....
yep that was taken from the filming of this vid
I love videos like this.
the simon icon means pipes right ?
After 8 years of testing and designing, this is what I want to do next!
no idea if you read this (since the last comment here is over a month ago) but playing the alpha on this weekend I noticed that you can't rebind the buttons on the bottom right (Shortcuts). Would be lovely to be able to change these, until I want my interaction key on f and I can't bind it on this one since it's removing objects already. (Also, deleting/disassembling belongs on x !!11! ;) )
Had an awesome experience with the alpha so far. Wish your company all the best!
Coffe stain how do u unlock goat zero?
Will there be a Support for red-green visual impairments?
That would bei great :D
As a software dev, I hate doing UI and front end. Why? Because as I think Nathalie is explaining, it really is misunderstood, and the way I see it, UI is much more related to art than coding. Understanding user experience and UI design is a very different skill set than the one required to come up with an algorithm or writing a library, it is the more humane and less technical part of developing. Hats off to all who love and do it well. Cant wait to play it ^^.
Also, I am nothing that dev vlog is becoming the new trend? So now that Early Access is old news is this the new gaming trend? Showcasing your product from even a pre pre pre alpha stage? Not complaining, just noticing a pattern
I think showing a game from its roots is good for a couple reasons
1, it promotes honesty and transparency from a company
2, it let's the younger folks take a look at the creative process and maybe get them interested in giving it a go
3, it prevents idea theft
4, it gives the people interested in the game a window into the progress to stop them forgetting the game exists by the time it's released.
Another company that do it quite well are the Factorio devs that release a blog every Friday, (Friday Fast Facts or FFF for short) from various designers in the project.
@@BenjaminStreet Yeah I found out I really enjoy it actually. To those interested in game dev, is a great way to learn stuff and he what the industry is doing. For the fans is way of stay interested as you said, and the idea theft is a big part. Take a look at that law suite that is going on with the new Start Trek discover and the Tardigrads. The guy's biggest weapon is his dev blogs that prove his idea before STD used it
Porky there’s no legal protection from idea theft that doesn’t reach the point of copyright infringement.
It's so damned hard to get right. I dabble in it, but we have UX designers and I follow their lead like the gospel.
In the past week my friends got me into Empyrion because of all the cool stuff they have added in the latest release. Great game, tons of depth. In the first hour of playing (once you have a real base with real inventory management) I said, "they need to hire a UX designer." There's some good elements, like the radial menu but as soon as you're interacting with something, you're really not have a good time: the developer clearly focuses on ensuring the fun is elsewhere (which it is). The map mostly works, but it took a couple of days for me to learn how to share waypoints with friends.
People don't appreciate UX enough; whether or not it is bad or good.
@@zamalek4079 preach brudah
you are so into it and that's the reason why the game is a masterpiece
Nathalie did a great job regarded the first state of UI 0:14 ... and I like her personally UI as well. Sadly that you so far up there in the EU ;)
HOUDOE!
BRABANT!
ik wist niet dat brabanders zo goed engels kunnen spreken, dus ik was wel shocked na 5:08
I think one thing that should be dealt with regarding UI is, that there is a really bad type of sorting when you are at the workbench. Maybe you can implement more filters (steel) (Iron) ect.
This would help finding things quicklier.
It's a very clean and utilitarian UI, which I appreciate a lot. The Subnautica team could learn a thing or two from this game.
"The dinosaurs" or "designosaurs"? I don't know what you said but I know what I want to have heard! :D (loved this interview great job!)
Actually i conld not find any information about a Open alpha/beta date... There is a some sort of release date, right?
No
So you’re all cool people doing fun stuff all the time? I don‘t buy it, where‘s the catch?
the game is a scam

Making games is hard. But you can still enjoy and get satisfaction out of doing things that are challenging. That's why Dark Souls is a thing.
Obviously, all the people in the "Developer" highlights are just actors.
what did she say when asked about runescape? i dont undestand
❤️
All that glogg in the background! Do I detect a Dutch person ?😀
yes and yes!
@@CoffeeStainStudios Awesome on both accounts! I love these video's getting to know the people behind the scenes, keep it up ! And as always please send an alpha key my way :D
Nederland hype!!
Honestly though, it's always awesome to come across fellow Dutch people at random!
Atleast I wont have to listen to English people pronouncing their obviously Dutch last name terribly wrong. That triggers me.
She said “houdoe” at the end; pretty sure she’s from around here ;)
So sweet 😉👍
Dang, i'm getting excited. xD
I’m so excited for 3D factorio
The game is more than... pleasing! :D
An OS that helps the player, and helps set the story huh, I wonder where I've seen that before... Hey if it works and people love it, and your UI helps flesh out your universe? That's gotta feel good as a UI designer.
You really need to show us that simon block 2:01
THE UI DESIGN IS AMAZING!

Wait a second, is she dutch aswell and to be specific from Noord-Brabant then aswell bc "Hou doe" is Brabants for bye
Speaking of the map.... where is it? And if the user notices the ui then the ui has failed.

the UI can make or break a game, your essential to the success of this.
Yeah nice :D
She sounds like she really knows her stuff! i cant tell you enough how many times the UI some times ruins a game!
Yes! For example God of War has a really bad one.. the "arrow" where the enemies attack sucks hard.

Well I get that people that are in the official blind category (aka
3:03 so where is she from ? :D

How long have you been playing Runescape? Five years started when I was nine. ...... 14!! Working at a game company this person is amazing.
I wrote business software for 18 years and UI is Extremely Important. Check out No Mans Sky to see a pretty bad on. This young lady is SPOT on!
wow they had a 3rd person mode in early builds. wish they'd bring that back lol
Yeah the guys from Space Engineers could learn so much from Coffee Stain.
welllllll i have to stop the video right now:
so basically I'm working at a company which produces hardware and software for "public transport companies"(mostly busses) and I love my job.
I'm a supporter for the frontend and backend software part even though I finished an apprenticeship as a computer scientist(System Engineer and some parts (sadly small parts) as a developer) in Switzerland. I really feel like it's hard to "form" the base between the users and the developers :)
I had a conversation with my father about the topic of "good developing" (he had problem installing microsoft after buying office 365 for himself and his wife) and he said "a good developer needs to know what the end customer needs and make it as easy at possible"
what I really wanted to say is: It's hard to speak between a developer and the end customer, you need to know both sides and this is the part on my job which makes it awesome when I remember "I really just showed the developers view (very technical) to the end customer" :) I love the job and didn't even know there was a full time job for in between.
and what I love even more is your FREAKING AWESOME STUDIO :) sadly satisfactorio(pun inteded (i love factorio)) won't be realeased on steam until 2020 :( if you'd offer me satisfactory for 100CHF or what ever currency (don't do it in bitcoin please) me and my friend would totally buy it.
and for the last footnote: the only people I've seen on social media were Jace and Nathalie and you really are the guys I'd love to work with
Been playing runescape for 5 years now. Started playing when I was 9.
5 + 9 = ...?
How old are you now?
Ah yes, the underappreciated 2D artist! Just joking, I hope everyone appreciates your work, because the players do! Hope you have a good time at developing more awesome designs
the most importan question: When can I play your already beautifully shaped looking .exe program?
Love it best way to learn, just thrower in in the ocean and hope she learns to swim! That how I learned my job AutoCad. Really excited to play Satisfactory. I love how she apologized for English not being her first language. You should hear me chew on Brazilian Portuguese, its dreadful. Also doesn't help they're more obsessed with teaching me expletives then actual useful words and phrases.
I can't help but notice a lack of beta keys in this video...
Its ok she made of for it with a shout out to Dead Space.
As an IT student studying UX and a game enthusiast I have learned that many people don't understand how important UX is. It can literally make games or any other products completely fail.
This was very interesting, thanks for making this for us! No really. It was... Satisfactory. Right that pun has been used way too much (by me).
Heeee youre Dutch!!! Awesomeeee
But does it have pipes?
