That’s 2nd DEGREE MURDER BY DEFINITION! Yet the grand jury only indicted him for 1st degree manslaughter!) My friends MURDERER IS FREE AS I TYPE THIS ON $180k bond and a BS ankle monitor and 5pm curfew! Needless to say he had an army of court officers escort his COWARDLY ASS out of the building for his “safety”…….. this system is a SICK JOKE! It’s way past time we citizens join together and start…. I’m sorry to hear that. Seriously. I can 100% relate. I actually became a “convicted violent felon” 2 years ago for DEFENDING MYSELF…. I was seeing this girl who had a crazy ex bf, who she had a restraining order against. He ends up showing up to her house at midnight and hid in the bushes with a knife, waiting for somebody to come outside… I went outside to smoke a cigarette and he bum rushed me. Next thing I know I’m on the ground, he’s on top of me with a knife trying to stab me in the face! I struggled to gain control of his knife and had defensive wounds all over my hands. I got LUCKY and was able to take the knife from him and I stabbed him with his own knife in the face, pushed him off of me, and ran back inside the house with his knife, slammed it on the kitchen counter and told the girl “Call the cops! Your ex just tried to kill me and I took his knife and stabbed him.” She called the police and over a dozen cops showed up. I had 2 witnesses to this incident that corroborated EXACTLY what happened. I was arrested, along with her psycho ex bf. He was only charged with 2nd degree assault and violating an order of protection! His bail was only $5k and he was out in 2 days! I on the other hand, was charged with a B felony 1st degree assault, and possession of (HIS) weapon. My bail was $70k cash, $170k bond.. I sat in jail fighting this case for a little over 6 months! The judge and DA said that “I should have retreated when I gained control of his knife” and my BS lawyer said “You should’ve let him stab you once, it would’ve looked better for trial”…… needless to say they didn’t want to take it to trial cuz they KNEW they would lose, and I just wanted out of jail, so I was basically FORCED into taking the plea deal: Time served, and pled guilty to 2nd degree assault, a violent felony. It completely flipped my entire life upside down… I lost my job, it’s harder than ever for me to find another one now. Meanwhile, the psycho who tried to murder me, ended up pleading guilty to a BS A Misdemeanor assault and violating a restraining order. He got 3 years probation! Mark my words he WILL be on the news one day for killing somebody or some other violent offense, likely towards a female cuz he’s a coward who beats on women… This system is so BROKEN it’s a sick joke! You can’t even LAWFULLY defend yourself in NYS! They will lock you up and try to give you years in prison (my first “plea deal” offer was 7 years! My second offer was 2-4 years. I stood firm and demanded a trial. They didn’t want that so I took the “plea deal” just to get out of jail.) It will take many more than just one person to make any kind of difference. The news coming out of NYC is depressing. Women being assaulted and killed in broad daylight, stomped in subway stations, children being harassed by homeless psychos on their way to school. Is this what you want for your families? If you say no, what are you willing to do about it?
This isn't occurring in a vacuum, and the conditions leading to this kind of rampant crime didn't come about overnight. If you live in NYC, you have to ask yourselves how this is happening and what each of you can do to change it. I won't say those residents deserve this, but it is clear that they have helped create these conditions.

I'll answer your question. They are out there, understaffed and underpaid, working now 5.5 years without a contract. However, arrests are up so they are still doing their jobs. That's obvious to a thinking person. There are 9 million people in NYC. Not only are we horribly short officers, but the city refuses to hire, and people don't want the job because your fellow voters in NYC were clear about defunding two years ago and did not support the cops. Also however, they are still doing their jobs. Did you get that part? You are actually asking the wrong questions about your tax dollars. They are supporting the progressive mayor you probably voted for, liberal judges and a leftist city council. The Democrat Governor refuses to get rid of bail reform or prosecutors that won't prosecute violent crime, push for shorter sentences and let criminals out early. Police are easy scapegoats. Especially for the uninformed and easy manipulated public. Don't be one of those naive people. Look further than low level patrol cops that are still making arrests for blame. Police can't be everywhere. But bad public policy and leadership leads to tragic results. I'm not trying to be combative, just trying to get you thinking about the root causes of crime, rather than respond like a zombie that doesn't think for himself.
