Actually, it's quite a common ADHD coping mechanism (i.e. to motivate yourself, you pretend there's pressure of some kind, like people observing you etc.). Fairly common.
It's the only way I can get anything done but sometimes the ancestral pressures that I imposed on myself as a motivator causes me to instead go into depression paralysis. The older I get the more common the latter is.

She was heart broken because I was 23 and she was 35 when she was diagnosed. This was 2020 so of course things took place over the phone a lot. I went same day to see my dad and siblings and tell them as well. They joked, thought I was pregnant. Said no, to sit because it was more serious. They told me to say I was kidding and that I was pregnant because that would make more sense. That was the only time I ever cried about it. I've been numb to it since. Even when they told me it spread and I needed another surgery. Or when they discovered that second surgery caused permanent nerve damage and damage to my arm.
I hope you're doing okay now (relatively) in spite of it. I lost my own uncle to cancer a couple years ago and he had to go through so much including removing part of his organs and I hope things are getting better for you, or at least, less painful

Then now that you have unlocked some precious childhood memory of this person and are wondering how they are doing she tells you they are dead. She does this all the time. She once made my mom remember a guy that gave her a penny at church like 40 years ago when she was a kid just to tell her he died.

He died a few days after his 12th birthday. Although I was distraught, I had been worried for some time that he would pass away while I was away at college, and the silver lining is that, though it happened suddenly and unexpectedly, he passed away while I was home visiting. My mom and grandma both say "Can I talk to you about something, I'm going ask you something, i need to talk to you". It's not necessarily even something thats a big deal. They just say it before something they are nervous about I guess. Its so frustrating, like please just say what ever without the preamble. But i love my family, I'm glad they are here.
My mother called one day because she "just wanted you to know that Daddy is okay." Neither of our parents had bothered to mention that he was having an outpatient surgery so I had no frame of reference for that. Old people!
In regards to the flattered someone is thinking of her at 1am lady, did anyone else get this vibe or am I reading between the lines too much? I thought she sounded depressed and low key meant something more like "its nice to know that someone is thinking about me at 1am cuz I want to know someone is thinking of me". She sounded like shes deeply struggling mentally but wants to come across like shes over the things her ex did, more than she actually is. I think she intentionally added that line, in hopes that she was portraying herself differently than how she actually feels.
Oh my goodness gracious, I have never in my life heard someone say they behave like they are being observed like that before! It makes me feel so much better, because I have lived like that since I was a very small child ToT No matter what I just always act like someone might be watching me, whether it's futuristic technology, dimensional beings, ghosts, or one of the most persistent thoughts - myself after I die, watching my life (very scary to think about, there will be much cringing). I just always live like someone might be watching because *what if they are*
19:39 Holy crap I have a pretty crazy text story I'd like to share that sorta relates to this post. A friend of mine from high school (I haven't seen her since I graduated) texted me out of the blue asking why I stopped talking to her in the second half of our sophomore year of high school. I was confused, cause we did talk after that, just less frequently and it weirded me out how specific the time she mentioned was. Her messages after that came across as weirdly clingy (not the first time either) so I sorta tiptoed around it a bit while trying my best to answer despite having no clue what she was talking about. The last text she sent me was something like "I was just thinking about it a little recently. I was a bit hurt." About a month later or something she then follows that text up with "A lot." Unfortunately, she also sent that text at the exact moment my dog died. I assumed she was continuing off her last message and naturally didn't respond cause it creeped me out a little and I was grieving. After a few minutes she frantically said she sent it on accident (Not that she meant to send it to someone else, just that she didn't mean to send it). Not sure how I feel about it, but I now have a somewhat creepy text message from her with the exact date and time that my dog passed away.
You spoke about your Sheltie at 20:14 straight after the abusive relationship thing, and I actually had a Sheltie with my abusive ex, I had to leave her behind when I left him as you can't really take dogs on planes without quarantining them for like three months first (and I would never do that to her). I miss her a lot

A few years ago my brother called me out of the blue and said "hey, I just wanted to let you know Dad had a heart attack." I said "oh my god" and sat there in shock for a few moments, and my brother responded with "yup, just wanted to let you know" and then hung up. He didn't pick up the phone when I called back asking for supplementary info, and my dad obviously couldn't answer his phone, so I just sat there with no idea what was going on. My dad turned out to be fine after a trip to the hospital, so it's funny now, but at the time I was pretty concerned lol. My brother has always been a man of few words
"...I still behave as if I'm being observed right now..." 😂 This is a reflection on me, not you, but when I heard this, all I thought was 'play the new Stalker theme, because this Exhibitionist is here for it.' Lmao
I think the wedding/weight thing can come from early 2000's reality shows. Like so many shows had a bride not wanting family or friends to ruin a wedding with their weight gain, hair, tattoos, pregnancy's, cancer and all kinds of pointless stuff. So we can get it in our heads that that is how it works in the real world. Just my thoughts of course because I never personally thought about it until seeing older shows or reddit stories.

It's Britney, bish
The only version worth rising for
I heard that omg
i can't believe i didn't even realize people were sending me an acronym when they were sending wyll lmao
I lost it from 5:45-6:15, that was a freaking trip and I cackled
17:00 - bro inadvertently references Hebrews 13:2: "Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares."
19:59
No way! My childhood dog, Laddie, was also a sheltie! I love that breed ☺️ They're beautiful and so smart.
We adopted Laddie on Halloween when I was 11 years old. He died a few days after his 12th birthday. Although I was distraught, I had been worried for some time that he would pass away while I was away at college, and the silver lining is that, though it happened suddenly and unexpectedly, he passed away while I was home visiting. I still love and miss him. Here's to all the childhood dogs that are dearly missed around the world 💙
Daniel we need a studio tour it looks so comfy
21:38 that text is either from a sibling or a best friend lmao
Anything like this or the AITA, I wait impatiently for this kind of content. I enjoy them from you in particular so much. You are entertaining but not too over the top, fair in your judgment, and not too over-careful, and I just really enjoy your overall delivery and way of speaking. Please keep them coming, sir. I, for one, appreciate you. 😁
5:15 these 10 seconds don't even need to be taken out of context to make no sense
24:20 william osman jumpscare
16:50 that's what living with faith and connection to god is ✡️
You literally described god observing you in every moment with loving eyes and grace
The person putting lol at the end of every sentence, I used to do that. I also say "lol" out loud in conversation, and not "L O L" separately, I mean "lol" as if it's a word. Lol. 😂
I was not ready for those air kisses at the end! Used to do those at the end of phone calls with my mom when I was little. Thanks Daniel
one of the smoothest surprise microphones i've ever seen
i love watching/listening to these, ty Daniel
that surprise microphone was so clean, I had to rewatch to see where it came from-
One day the r/text will be a surprise microphone.
1:48
Thanks for the laugh, caught me more off guard than it should have
My mom and grandma both say "Can I talk to you about something, I'm going ask you something, i need to talk to you". It's not necessarily even something thats a big deal. They just say it before something they are nervous about I guess. Its so frustrating, like please just say what ever without the preamble. But i love my family, I'm glad they are here.
since you’ve done surprise mic and surprise camera, you should do surprise video😅
1:43 i feel so seen
9:00 sounds like he's texting his boyfriend
16:52 Daniel's long-winded way of saying he has integrity
“I’m observed” has become my favorite.
6:10 joker 3 gonna go crazy
Oh my goodness gracious, I have never in my life heard someone say they behave like they are being observed like that before! It makes me feel so much better, because I have lived like that since I was a very small child ToT
No matter what I just always act like someone might be watching me, whether it's futuristic technology, dimensional beings, ghosts, or one of the most persistent thoughts - myself after I die, watching my life (very scary to think about, there will be much cringing).
I just always live like someone might be watching because *what if they are*
I love the “just don’t let me know” to having naked strangers in your house 😆
I was a bit hurt."
About a month later or something she then follows that text up with "A lot." Unfortunately, she also sent that text at the exact moment my dog died. I assumed she was continuing off her last message and naturally didn't respond cause it creeped me out a little and I was grieving. After a few minutes she frantically said she sent it on accident (Not that she meant to send it to someone else, just that she didn't mean to send it). Not sure how I feel about it, but I now have a somewhat creepy text message from her with the exact date and time that my dog passed away.
i dont know I DONT KNOW I DON'T KNOW -panic creates music~
love how daniel’s belief system is just integrity, he explained it in the best way tho lmao
6:43 I LAUGHTER SO HARD I GOT LIGHTHEADED 😭
You spoke about your Sheltie at 20:14 straight after the abusive relationship thing, and I actually had a Sheltie with my abusive ex, I had to leave her behind when I left him as you can't really take dogs on planes without quarantining them for like three months first (and I would never do that to her). I miss her a lot
4:19 this is so funny to hear after coming home from a theater production where the actors were talking about all the new terms kids are using. I heard someone say this word for word
5:45 THANK YOU! It’s about time
MICROPHONE 🎤🎤🎤
I've been loving the podcasts. Please keep on doing them
5:22 Daniel suddenly veering toward Jimi Hendrix's Star Spangled Banner, but completely failing got me!
I love how he will just be joking around, suddenly turn serious, and then come up with the most insight full piece of advice that will help humanity for years to come, and then go back to writing a song out of pure gibberish. :D
😂😂 Naked light installation is my life purpose!
To try and reword Daniel's joke: "He goes to bakeries a lot... he likes to get bread/bred."
I know I’m late to the comment game but “amused and confused” would be such a funny merch idea. Maybe even with a guy on a lawnmower. So wild and only we would understand😂😂
"I play piano when I'm uncomfortable."
"But you always play piano."
"And that has made my career."
If I haven't caused people to feel "confused, but amused" when I leave them, I consider the entire conversation to have been a complete failure.
lmao imagine contacting others
IMAGINE BEING SKILLED AT SPEAKING WITH OTHERS...
Imagine being observed 😬
I think this is my favorite episode. So far at least. I lmao'd a lot. Especially on the seahorse one.
That surprise microphone was SMOOTH
Less than five minutes ago, I need to spend less time online
Surprise microphone is my favorite - I still miss the scream though 🥲
The lawnmower guy got a bad case of text tourettes
thank you Daniel, for standing for the boys who wanna be bred
*salutes*
"Grandpa, why do you have fifteen microphones?"
"Well Timmy, it's because, THERE'S ACTUALLY SEVENTEEN!"
"...I still behave as if I'm being observed right now..."
😂
This is a reflection on me, not you, but when I heard this, all I thought was 'play the new Stalker theme, because this Exhibitionist is here for it.' Lmao
‘my sister convinced me she could breathe through her ears….and i didn’t question it until just now’ oh my god i am dead
16:50 You invented religion again!
daniels philosophy of making decisions as if hes being observed is just religion with omnipotent gods lmao
There will be a video eventually where you dont get me with that damn surprise microphone lmao. 😂😂
Forget surprise microphone, we got surprise warlock in this episode
Gen alpha is actually 2013 to 2025
Thank you for fighting for my rights :3
