First of all, "century egg" is just an artistic name for the special method of preservation of this kind of egg. The egg is prepared by wrapping them with clay, wheat, salt, and it's done after 2 month. I actually thought this is a cute name, because I grew up eating these eggs and never heard of the name. Second, I legitimately think that you guys bought "fake" eggs. Because I can see a musty spot on the egg which can indicate it's actually rotten and not good for eating. It might be due to shipping or other things. A well preserved century egg is not really supposed to smell, and if the preservation was done right, we can see a clear crystal formation forming on the egg. And century egg was not supposed to be eaten like a snack. Rather, the best combo would be with Porridge while the egg is served with or on a separate dish dipped in soy bean sauce.
Google "皮蛋" for image to see what a real century egg should look like. :)
FYI: I was not offended at all. I LOVE this channel, been a fan for a long time. Just thought to share my knowledge is all.

Oddly enough, as it happens Matt was actually right about that material. it is what's known as candy, or sugar, "glass." In movies and televsion shows, this is generally used in the place of actual glass since it's less likely to cause injuries but shatters similar to regular glass and in a very convincing fashion.

Those Chinese century eggs, they're not actually a thousand years old as they say in the video, they now have ways to do it chemically. They soak the eggs in a mixture of table salt, calcium hydroxide, and sodium carbonate for 10 days, followed by several weeks of waging while wrapped in plastic. It only takes a few months and they produce them in bulk daily. It's the same as producing aged wines or cheeses.
Century eggs are the best eggs... I loved to eat them sooooo much... It's best served with preserved young ginger, porridge or just eat as it is... There are century quail eggs too... But most of the time it's just duck eggs....

I actually eat the Rotten Egg or called as "Century Egg" Besides the smell, It tastes really good. But its kinda expensive here.

I remember I choked on a plastic fork a few months ago. I bit into the food so hard that I bit the fork aswell. One of the prongs on the fork snapped off and went directly to the back of my mouth, making me choke and unable to breathe. I eventually coughed it up and we all just laughed but I was actually dead inside....and that’s how I nearly died 😂

Here in China, a lot of people eat those eggs every day. I think because they bought them online they were dodgy and smelled weird. In my opinion they are delicious but most people don't eat them alone, we have it with tofu and a sauce or in other dishes too.
